Demon Slayer: Breath of Desire

Chapter 277: Surprise

Tamayo shook her head in resignation at Marcus.

Taking in the landscape around them, she spoke in amazement:

"How big is Infinity Castle right now?"

Marcus rubbed his chin.

"The old one was about the size of three or four villages. As for this one..." He raised his hand, pointing toward the sea of clouds. "I’d estimate that, horizontally alone, it’s the size of three or four Kyotos. But since its vertical and horizontal dimensions are identical, its depth is the real key point."

Three or four times the size of Kyoto!

At that scale, it surpassed any Blood Demon Art: it was a small, self-contained world.

Nakime gave a quiet notice:

"My lord, from this position we can return directly to your home from here."

Marcus was stunned for a moment.

That’s right!

Infinity Castle already covered all of Kyoto, letting him come and go as he pleased within that area.

Looking at the platform beneath his feet, he knew the journey required moving the structure.

Nakime’s method of playing the biwa to teleport someone instantly relied on the bond Muzan shared with the demons.

For now, he couldn’t teleport others unless he devoured Muzan and implanted his cells into each vampire.

That idea suggested a bold possibility.

If, after devouring Muzan, he used his eye-cameras instead of cells on each vampire, wouldn’t they all become... mobile cameras and pseudo-clones?

He could see whatever they saw and appear at their side at any instant, achieving omniscience, omnipotence, and omnipresence.

The prospect made his heart race.

But he forced himself to calm down; the indispensable requirement was to devour Muzan and establish himself as the progenitor of the vampires.

He glanced sidelong at Nakime.

She remained silent, her long hair falling to her waist, and now that she was free of her chains, she gave off more life.

His last chance to devour a Blood Demon Art he’d used on her.

Which meant the time had come for her to replenish him.

The final ten percent of the analysis, the Level 4 reward.

He had to secure it today, no matter what!

Once he "devoured" her completely, and before turning her into a vampire, he’d transfer Enmu’s Blood Demon Art to her. By then, his side would gain a crowd-control performer crucial to the battlefield.

Impatient, he snapped his fingers.

Snap!

Asakusa, the Marcus estate.

Several beautiful maids were scrubbing the stone steps when a solemn crimson door with golden studs surfaced in midair.

It was twice the size of the main gate, its frame inlaid with dark gold that commanded respect.

The maids dropped their buckets in fright, water splashing up. Yet instead of fleeing, they exchanged glances and put themselves on guard.

The great door opened slowly, and Marcus led the group out from within.

Recognizing him, the maids immediately knelt.

"Master."

Marcus looked at them for a moment and waved his hand.

"Withdraw for now."

"Yes," they answered in unison, gathering their things to move off toward the corridor, unable to take their eyes off the structure.

"Ivy," Marcus turned around. "Organize the maids. Except for the ones specifically chosen, no one is to come near this side of the house."

"Understood, Master."

"Shinobu," Marcus continued. "Send a letter to Kagaya. Tell him I’ll go to fetch him tomorrow."

"All right," she nodded without objection.

Lastly, he looked at Tamayo.

"Prepare Enmu’s Blood Demon Art and the sun-medicine for Nakime."

"I’ll head to the laboratory right away," Tamayo answered sweetly.

Marcus gave his final order: "Everyone else, carry on with your own tasks."

Then, with a smile, he regarded the girl who didn’t know where to go.

"Nakime... come with me to my room."

Everyone who hadn’t yet gotten far in their steps stopped all at once.

Some kept walking, some turned their heads, some... let out a faint sigh.

Nakime, ever expressionless, showed a slight shift in her features.

But to Marcus’s surprise, there was no panic or fear on her face — only a trace of melancholic resentment... directed not at him, but at Tamayo.

"My lord..." Nakime murmured hesitantly. "Could I ask Tamayo-sama to come with me...?"

"Together?" Marcus was thrown off.

Then he arched his eyebrows with a smile. "Do you know what I’m calling you for?"

"It’s precisely because I know... that I’m begging you..." Nakime said, blushing faintly.

...WHAT?!

Marcus stood there open-mouthed, shifting his stunned gaze from Nakime to Tamayo, who was just as bewildered.

Could Nakime possibly be...?
