Chapter 8: I’m Superman
Daniel woke up early the next morning and carefully lifted the blanket off himself.
A bold thought had come to him during the night. If his guess was right, then maybe... just maybe... he wouldn’t have to fear the purple nutsack monster anymore.
He slowly pulled open the hotel room door, moving as quietly as possible.
But even that tiny bit of noise was enough to wake John.
"Daniel, where are you going?" John instantly lost all traces of sleep the moment he saw Daniel trying to leave. Something about this was way too unusual.
"Sorry, Dad. I woke you up." Daniel turned back and answered softly. "I wanted to go watch the sunrise."
It was only a little past six in the morning. Thankfully it was summer, so the sun rose early. At this hour, they could still catch the first light of dawn.
"I’ll go with you."
Before Daniel could say anything else, John had already climbed out of bed, thrown on his clothes, and followed him out without even washing up first.
’You really don’t have to...’ Daniel thought helplessly.
But he couldn’t reject John’s concern.
After all, Daniel was only five years old.
And yesterday, he had been acting far too strangely.
As a father, John always tried his best to help his son.
He knew Daniel had been more mature and sensible than most children since he was young.
Quiet, obedient, thoughtful... but no matter how mature he acted, he was still just a child.
What Daniel himself didn’t realize was that he often forgot his own age. A lot of the things he did unintentionally made John worry constantly.
The two of them walked downstairs and left the hotel.
The moment they looked up, they saw a blazing sun slowly rising over the horizon.
The morning clouds spread outward in layers, and the soft red glow gradually dyed the sky above them lighter and lighter. Dawn had fully begun to break.
At the horizon, brilliant gold slowly emerged from the deepest crimson of the sunrise, swallowing the red and blue that had once dominated the sky.
Streak after streak, patch after patch, layer upon layer of golden clouds filled half the gray-blue sky.
The sunrise was breathtaking. The kind of beauty that quietly shook people to their core.
In truth, life was filled with beautiful things.
As long as someone stayed optimistic and looked carefully enough, they would always find beauty somewhere around them.
Daniel stood there, bathing in the sunlight.
Golden rays poured over him, covering his entire body in warm light. At that moment, he almost looked like a holy child descending into the mortal world.
Sacred.
Noble.
Under the sunlight, Daniel felt unbelievably comfortable.
Not just comfortable.
Amazing.
It felt like a desert finally receiving rain after endless drought, every inch of his body being nourished and revived.
Every cell in his body seemed to be cheering with excitement.
Something unknown within the sunlight was being absorbed into him.
And after standing there for only a short while, Daniel could already feel his strength increasing.
He slowly clenched his fist.
The power in it was obvious.
After confirming his suspicion, Daniel decided it was enough for now.
There was no need to rush. He had plenty of time ahead of him to soak up sunlight.
"Dad, let’s head back inside," Daniel said.
By now, the sun had fully risen. The huge fiery-red sphere hung high in the sky, and even though it was still morning, the sunlight already carried a hint of heat.
The temperature didn’t affect Daniel at all.
But tiny beads of sweat had already formed on John’s forehead.
"You okay, Daniel?" John asked with concern.
Daniel gave him a smile as bright as blooming flowers.
"I’m great, Dad."
He was so happy his grin almost split his face apart. If nobody else had been nearby, he probably would’ve burst out laughing on the spot.
’Better than ever before,’ Daniel silently added in his heart.
Seeing that Daniel’s smile looked completely genuine, John finally relaxed.
Good.
His son was finally back to normal.
"Alright then. Let’s go back," John said warmly.
The two returned to their room together.
The moment they opened the door, they saw Carol anxiously pacing around inside.
When she woke up earlier, both her father and little brother had disappeared without a trace. It had scared her half to death.
"Oh my God, where did you guys go?" Carol rushed over immediately. "I opened my eyes and both of you were gone. You seriously scared me!"
As she spoke, she patted her chest dramatically.
"We just went downstairs for a walk," Daniel said with a smile. "Sorry, we forgot to leave you a note."
"It’s fine. Just don’t forget next time."
Carol generously forgave the two of them.
After breakfast, John needed to head out to take care of some things. Carol went with him, but Daniel stayed behind in the room alone.
The past two days had been a complete emotional rollercoaster for him.
Yesterday, he discovered he had transmigrated into the Marvel Universe, leaving him completely shaken.
And today, he realized the power he possessed was absurdly strong.
This world was seriously messing with him.
Daniel needed time to process everything.
If anyone saw him right now, they’d notice the grin on his face simply refused to disappear.
Yesterday he looked like someone who’d lost the will to live.
Today?
He looked delighted beyond belief.
Why was Daniel this happy?
Because his ability was almost identical to Superman’s.
Daniel was ninety-nine percent certain now.
He had Superman’s powers.
This was insane.
Superman was ridiculously overpowered.
Super strength.
Super endurance.
Super speed.
Light-speed flight.
Heat vision.
Freeze breath.
X-ray vision.
Super hearing.
Insane regeneration.
Complete invulnerability.
This guy had practically maxed out the entire physical skill tree.
All Daniel had to do now was sunbathe every day.
When Thanos finally showed up in the future, there’d definitely be tears involved.
And Daniel vaguely remembered hearing somewhere that later versions of Superman could even move planets.
Wasn’t there also a version where he sneezed and destroyed an entire planet?
Either way, Daniel wasn’t panicking anymore.
This was Marvel.
Not DC.
There was no Kryptonite here.
Which basically meant he had almost no natural enemies.
"Unless..."
Daniel suddenly thought of someone.
"That bald sorcerer lady is probably my worst matchup."
Superman’s physical defense was ridiculously high, but his resistance to magic was practically nonexistent.
And that bald mage had protected Earth for hundreds of years.
She was terrifyingly powerful.
Especially that Mirror Dimension.
If Daniel got trapped inside there, he honestly had no idea how he’d escape.
"But it’s fine," Daniel muttered to himself. "I just won’t provoke her. I’ll stay far away."
He quickly finalized his life plan.
"Low-profile development. Stay hidden and survive quietly. Then when Purple Nutsack shows up, I’ll beat him up and send him packing."
Like he said before, Daniel was just an ordinary person at heart.
He had never dreamed of becoming some superhero.
He respected superheroes.
He admired them.
But becoming one himself?
No thanks.
He didn’t have that kind of noble spirit.
At his core, he was just a normal guy with an average civilian mindset.
If something happened and he could help, then sure, he’d help.
But only after making sure he himself was safe first.
"Hahaha..."
Daniel finally burst into laughter alone in the room.
He couldn’t hold it in anymore.
He was way too happy.
He had thought life in Marvel would be terrifyingly difficult.
Instead, a miracle had landed right in front of him.
’I’m freaking Superman!’ Daniel roared inwardly.
The way he looked now was exactly like a guy who had suddenly inherited millions of dollars.
Everything finally made sense.
No wonder he had always loved basking in the sun.
Even before his powers awakened, there had already been signs.
"I knew it. God never abandons Transmigrators."
Now that his cheat ability had fully activated, Daniel was starting to float a little.
"Even if I don’t want fame, saving the world part-time every now and then honestly doesn’t sound too bad."
His heart was overflowing with happiness.
From now on, he definitely needed to spend more time in the sun.
That thought firmly settled into Daniel’s mind.
