House of The Dragon:The Rise of the Emperor of the Seven Kingdoms

Chapter 91 - 90 - The Burning of Bloodstone (II)

Caraxes landed among the burning wooden houses and walked through the town while looking around with a piercing, cold gaze. He bared his teeth, almost as if he were smiling and enjoying the sea of red fire around him.

Every step of the dragon made the ground sink as his serpentine form twisted as he walked. His red scales seemed to gleam amid the red fire.

Suddenly, Caraxes turned his head and looked at the two-legged sheep emerging at a run from one of the burning houses. Curiously, he was actually holding a real sheep in his arms.

Did this human also enjoy eating sheep? That thought crossed Caraxes’s mind, and he did not like that this insect had not handed over the delicious sheep to him. Showing a look that would have frightened even the most wicked of men, he took a step forward and stared at the man with a gaze full of greed.

Arthur, who was naked and holding the sheep in his arms, looked at the scene before him with horror and froze in place. He did not even react when the gigantic monster drew near him.

In the saddle, Daemon watched what was happening. He looked at the naked man and then looked at the sheep with a look full of disgust. It did not take a genius to know what had been going on inside that house.

"Damn it, how dare you taint my eyes with this hellish scene!?" Daemon could not help but curse as he glared furiously at the man.

"PLEASE, SPARE ME AND MIMOSA!!!" Arthur finally woke from his frozen state and did not hesitate to shout at the top of his lungs. He knelt and held his precious sheep close; he was making himself as humble as possible.

Seeing that the man cared about the sheep, an idea crossed Daemon’s mind, and he showed a cruel smile. "You may go, filthy pirate."

Arthur’s eyes went wide; he could not believe what he was hearing, but then he showed a look of joy and ran toward the beach without any hesitation.

However, catching the smell of sulfur mixed with the salty sea breeze, Arthur turned around and saw a sight he would never forget. The dragon’s enormous mouth opened as it closed in on him at tremendous speed.

Arthur did not even have the chance to scream before Caraxes closed his jaws around his body. As if enjoying a snack, Caraxes chewed the human and the sheep with a satisfied look. Although raw meat was not as tasty as meat roasted by his own flames, it was still a decent meal.

Daemon merely laughed at what had just happened. He might be an honorable hero, but he could also be a wicked villain. Perhaps that was the charm of the Rogue Prince.

Suddenly, the whistle of arrows sounded through the sky.

Daemon did not hesitate and covered his body with the shield he had brought along. The impact of the arrows came the next instant. The shield shook as the arrows struck it. The arrows that struck Caraxes were not even considered attacks by the dragon.

The projectiles could not even pierce the membrane of his wings. They ricocheted off and fell in heaps to the ground. Even so, they managed to irritate Caraxes.

The dragon looked to the right and let out a roar. He opened his mouth and fired a jet of flame at the nearby houses, reducing everything to ashes. He advanced through the wreckage and flames like a demon emerging from the fire. One pirate had the misfortune of being trampled by the dragon and was crushed to death.

Daemon looked around and saw nothing but flames and the wreckage of a town burning in red fire; the infernal heat struck his face as he listened to the symphony of screams of fear and horror from the outlaw pirates still alive.

Then, he spotted a fair number of men fleeing toward the boats at the wooden harbor, the only place that had not yet been reached by the fire. Daemon smiled, and without needing to say a word, the dragon surged forward at tremendous speed. He looked like a runaway bus, plowing over everything and everyone. When he reached the sand, he sent it flying in every direction.

A middle-aged man with an enormous beard looked at the scene before him and felt his legs go weak and trembling. What would you do upon seeing a monster the size of a building running toward you? Hubary knew exactly how to answer that question.

He simply did nothing; the terror and fear of seeing such a thing kept anyone from even being able to think.

"Gentlemen, do you not think it rude to leave the party without saying goodbye?" Daemon looked at the men, frozen before him, and remarked with a sarcastic smile.

Hubary swallowed hard and regained control of his body. However, feeling something wet and heavy in his pants, he knew he had soiled himself. Still, as a man who had always lived on the edge between life and death, he seemed quite calm despite the embarrassing situation.

"Prince Daemon, it would be an honor to be your slave." Hubary said, kneeling in a rather awkward way, since he did not know the customs of the Court of King’s Landing.

Daemon looked at him with a touch of curiosity and smiled. "Westeros has no slaves, my dear pirate. However, your proposal strikes me as rather interesting."

"I have decided; I will turn you, the vilest scum of this planet, into the most brutal and deadly squad of warriors on this godforsaken scrap of island." Daemon smiled maliciously. He had long wanted to train the Gold Cloaks, turning them into true killing machines. However, Jaehaerys had never given him that power.

Now he had the chance to do it, and even if he failed, it did not matter; it was merely a way to pass the time until the arrival of the Noble Houses of Dorne.

"What is your name?" Daemon asked, looking at the kneeling man.

"Hubary, my prince." Hubary did not hesitate to answer in a respectful, thoroughly submissive tone.

"Bring me all the survivors," Daemon said in a calm, cold tone. "From this moment on, you are animals, animals that need only obey!"

"Yes, Prince Daemon." Hubary shouted at the top of his lungs. He did not care what he was called, so long as he stayed alive; he would even bark like a dog if asked.

"Do you have a map of the islands where the other groups of pirates are hiding?" Daemon asked, looking back and seeing the town still burning in red flames, though they had already died down considerably.

Hubary hesitated to answer, but, faced with the Targaryen prince’s cold, piercing gaze, he spoke in a respectful tone. "I have a map on my ship, but I do not think it will be of much use, my prince."

Daemon showed a confused expression at Hubary’s words.

"Because we are great cowards, my prince." Hubary, being a pirate, spoke in a calm tone. "We do not touch the strong, only the weakest."

"The trail of the town’s fire must have already been seen by every pirate on the islands nearby, and they will have fled long ago. " Hubary, being a pirate, knew exactly how pirates thought and acted.

The first thing a pirate does upon seeing someone strong is flee as fast as possible. The brave usually die young, and the cowardly live a long time. Only a fool thinks it a good idea to try to intimidate someone strong.

The weak intimidate the weak, and the strong also intimidate the weak; it has always been that way and always will be.

Daemon showed a surprised expression. In his eyes, even if Caraxes was a source of terror for the pirates, there would at least be some fighting. However, he had overestimated something that had never existed in a pirate: looting gold and being addicted to prostitutes.

The Rogue Prince shook his head and set those thoughts aside. Either way, he had accomplished the first task of clearing the Stepstones of pirates.

Now, he only had to wait for the Noble Houses of Dorne to arrive, and he would burn anyone who dared approach the Stepstones.

"I am going to burn a few more of your fellows. Stay in Bloodstone and get word out for order to return to this place." Daemon said in a calm tone, then showed a sadistic smile.

"Of course, you could try to run."

Hubary swallowed hard and quickly cast the idea of fleeing from his mind. Even if he fled, his boat would never be as fast as a dragon. And there was no certainty that Daemon would truly hunt down the other pirate ships.

Faced with the uncertainty of death, Hubary, being a man who valued his life, did not hesitate to choose the safer path.

"Yes, my prince."

Daemon showed a satisfied look and flew off on Caraxes toward the other islands. Pirate ships would never be as fast as a dragon, and he hoped to burn a few ships before returning to Bloodstone.
