The Elusive Sorcerer

Chapter 132 – Action

Chapter 132

Even Zavi himself was struggling, even though this type of Chalog wasn't the one he feared and was merely exhausting to deal with.

He let out a disappointed groan when his magazine ran out of bullets, yet four Chalog were already standing before him.

There was only one way to finish them off.

He ran while reloading his magazine.

Tap...

With swift movements, he shot toward the doorway. The mouths of the four Chalog opened wide, and a wave of heat erupted as orange fireballs formed from their mouths before launching toward Zavi.

"This is bad..."

Zavi threw away his bamboo hat, and the orange fireballs instantly engulfed his entire body in flames.

A scream of agony echoed throughout the mansion hall, followed by the horrifying, piercing roars of the Chalog.

Even while his body burned, Zavi used his wound transfer technique as he forcibly directed his spiritual energy toward the massive door.

Thud... Thud...

The door was blasted away before shattering into pieces. Dust swallowed Zavi as he hurriedly ran through it.

'Damn it... my weapon got burned too...'

Half-burned, with the flames consuming everything from his stomach downward, Zavi immediately froze himself with his new technique: binding himself using strands of thin thread, while thinking of something terrifying.

Aaron, who had been observing Zavi's actions from beyond the gate, waited for the best possible outcome.

A pack of transparent foxes appeared around him, without flesh, without skin, without blood. Only a pale grayish-white aura formed their bodies.

The foxes howled loudly before moving under Zavi's command, charging toward the four Chalog whose movements had slowed near the doorway.

The Chalog snapped back to awareness. From their snouts, fireballs rolled forth violently, releasing waves of heat and sparks that instantly burned apart some of the pale gray foxes.

Zavi's face, as always, remained indifferent, but deep inside, he was shocked by the Chalog's agility.

Still, as usual, whenever cornered, Zavi had already devised a plan to deal with this and save himself.

'Disappear, and transform.'

The ten foxes that survived the Chalog's fireballs transformed into hundreds of box jellyfish, their tentacles prepared to inject venom.

Several seconds after the box jellyfish appeared, a thin barrier of water, jelly-like yet dense, enveloped the four Chalog and the hundreds of box jellyfish.

The Chalog regained awareness once more. But their escape was futile because they were restrained by the thin jelly-like water, which naturally allowed the box jellyfish to move freely inside it while trapping them within.

Crack...

Boom... Boom... Boom... Boom...

Several box jellyfish exploded one after another. The Chalog could neither retaliate nor defend themselves, and now they realized their consciousness was fading as a faint, calming sensation brushed against their backsides.

Half of Zavi's spiritual power had been drained as he simultaneously created the explosions while protecting himself from the scorching orange flames.

He glanced toward the broken iron gate and shouted loudly and clearly,

"Aaron... help me..."

From behind the gate, Aaron smiled faintly before instantly appearing beside Zavi in the blink of an eye.

Aaron lowered his body slightly as shadows wrapped around his right hand, then his palm opened before touching the orange flames while suppressing a groan.

A thin gust of wind and hot smoke appeared briefly as Zavi felt his knees weaken, his shoes and jacket burning away, and he collapsed onto the ground with his hands and legs trembling violently.

Cold sweat covered his face as he watched droplets of sweat fall, breathing heavily.

Trying to steady his breathing, he slowly lifted his head and stared at Aaron, who blinked repeatedly at the sight before him.

"Yeah. I know."

'Damn it, the 5 Pace advance payment and the 50 Pace Aaron gave me earlier got burned too.'

Zavi wiped the sweat from his forehead with his arm before slowly standing again and staring at the abandoned mansion for a long time.

"Is this finally over?" he muttered to himself.

'Thank goodness... if the Chalog corpses are still intact. I... managed to contain the explosion.'

He immediately dropped down onto the mansion yard, lying flat with his arms spread out while watching the morning light stream into the house and hit his face.

Zavi quickly sat up, blinking as their eyes met before he asked,

"Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Do you realize your fur jacket has been destroyed?"

Zavi carefully looked down at his shirt, completely unsurprised because he knew those stolen goods had never been anything special.

But when it came to money, he couldn't accept it so easily.

As he stood up, he bent slightly, staring at the Chalog corpses lying before him before walking toward them.

Realizing he hadn't been able to move freely earlier, Zavi finally voiced what was on his mind as he stood beside them.

"Aaron," Zavi said weakly, "can you help me carry the heads of those five Chalog?"

Aaron instantly glanced over and said, "Alright. I'll help you."

Aaron immediately severed the five Chalog heads using hands wrapped in sharp shadows before sinking them into the shadow circle beneath his feet.

The odd job was finally finished. The two of them returned to the same alley where they had first arrived in Chavez and where Zavi had met the workers from the Vertan security department who had hired him to exterminate the Chalog.

Once they arrived there, Zavi told Aaron to stand guard at the entrance of the narrow alley while he himself carried the five heads as proof with the help of shadows transporting them.

Before the three men arrived from the right side through the dim light, Zavi nudged the shadows, causing the five Chalog heads to tumble onto the ground.

Aaron, leaning while watching the front of the alley, turned toward Zavi when it felt like something had struck his body.

'He dropped them hard, damn it.'

The footsteps of the three men drew closer, and several seconds before they arrived, Zavi greeted them with a cheerful voice, a voice that sounded like it carried another intention beneath it.

While lifting his bamboo hat, Zavi spoke in his usual tone.

"Here's the proof the three of you wanted."

Nison froze when he truly saw the Chalog heads with his own eyes.

That stunned expression faded when Jackson nudged him with a sharp look before extending his hand with an open palm and twitching fingers.

"Yeah, I know," Nison muttered gloomily as he pulled 5 Pace from his coat pocket.

Jackson accepted the money and counted several bills in his hand, making sure the amount matched their previous agreement.

Then, he held out the money with a satisfied smile.

"Thank you for handling this so well, James Moriarty..."

Zavi laughed softly before speaking in a slightly heavy tone,

"I'm grateful as well for the trust you've placed in me by giving me this job."

Zavi accepted the money before slipping it into the front pocket of his shirt.

The three men immediately carried away the five Chalog heads and stuffed them into the thick sack they had prepared earlier.

Aaron, noticing Zavi approaching him, immediately asked something regarding what they would do next.

"So where are we going after this?"

Zavi appeared hesitant for a moment before answering clearly,

"We'll find Hana and Mine before heading to Semilir."

Aaron smiled faintly after realizing that the day he had been waiting for would soon arrive.
