The Elusive Sorcerer

Chapter 122 – Money Plan

Chapter 122

Late at night, Zavi and Aaron were still around Racon and Baram. Unable to stay still because bounty hunters had begun actively pursuing him, making things difficult for him, unwilling to deal with trouble and unable to move around as freely as before.

Standing frozen atop a building roof for quite a long time, Zavi's blue eyes that carried bitter memories captured the beautiful scenery of Racon and Baram as far as the eye could see. Snow fell endlessly, while the gentle night air brushed against his face, giving off a magical impression as though it reflected his feelings.

He did not know when the terrible tragedy that made his life feel so difficult would end. Even though a few days ago he had found a sense of peace while staying at a married couple's house, now his feelings were different from before, as though something was continuously tearing at his heart.

'Damn it,' Zavi complained as he bit down hard on his lower lip, ignoring the pain itself as his chest felt like it was burning.

At the peak of it, he felt a wet sensation flowing down his cheeks, trailing to his chin and dripping one after another onto his leather boots.

He could not hold this in any longer, thinking of returning as soon as possible to where he truly belonged; at home and together with his family.

Lost in his thoughts for too long while sitting at the edge of the rooftop with both legs hanging directly over the street below, Zavi quickly pulled a pocket watch from his shirt pocket, opening its cover swiftly as he half-turned after realizing Aaron had returned.

Then he rose from his seat, jumped down, and pointed the surface of the pocket watch forward as he spoke while hiding his true feelings.

"Did you find that person already?" he asked hopefully, feeling this was the perfect time to leave Minehold.

Aaron shook his head, then handed over a green bottle he was holding and said, "I found those two women already, and I hired the person you wanted."

Zavi narrowed his eyes slightly as he noticed two strangers standing near the rooftop door, closely watching him with gazes that looked as though they wanted to kill him.

"Are those the people you meant?" Zavi asked while accepting the bottle of lemon soda he had previously asked Aaron to buy.

"Yeah," Aaron answered rather apathetically. He paused for a moment to swallow, then continued, "I don't understand how something that trivial could make you unable to move around as freely as before."

"Well, I already figured that the safe situation before was just like a dream fading away the moment I woke from a long sleep."

'Speaking of dreams, I suddenly remembered that ever since arriving in Minehold a few days ago, even after deciding to wander around with those two, I rarely get those nightmares anymore. Could it be that strange thing faded from my mind because I met that damn woman?'

After muttering to himself, he had already suspected that the nightmare had something to do with Zavi's death and the effects of transmigration when his soul forced its way into this body.

"About that," Zavi said while opening the bottle's plastic seal. "Did you get it already?"

Aaron's pupils widened for a moment.

"Get what?" he repeated once more to make sure.

'This guy really is insane,' Aaron added inwardly.

Zavi fell silent for a moment while staring sharply at him.

"Finding odd jobs from people who want to obtain something they desire, forced to leave coded instructions at bars and getting hired men once someone manages to solve the code."

Aaron immediately understood the statement as he recalled the information he had gotten from the bar earlier.

'I'm not really sure what to say. But this job is strange because it comes from the church in Kuranda, and the payment is four times higher than the previous one.'

After thinking it through more carefully, Aaron finally decided to share the information that might allow Zavi to gather money before the end of the month.

"There is one, and it's far from Minehold. A major city and one of the main advanced cities in Havanuheta. Kuranda."

Zavi's gaze sharpened, his right hand froze on the bottle cap, while his heartbeat slowed as though it had lost its rhythm.

"Looking for someone over a murder case? Or..."

He could not continue his words as he realized the two people Aaron had brought there were walking toward him, followed by two women; Hana and Mine wearing white shirts with ruffled collars paired with dark trousers and dark navy blazers to make movement easier.

Aaron immediately turned around, looked at the two men and said seriously,

"Why did you come here? Is there something you two want to ask?"

'So they've finally arrived,' Aaron added inwardly as he tilted his head slightly, watching the two women walking behind the men.

The two men whose hair was covered with cloth as though they were killers who had done dirty work for too long and gone through too much exchanged glances, and one green-eyed man immediately nodded as he decided to ask.

"What kind of job are you offering the two of us?" asked the man named Nowel carefully.

Mine and Hana reflexively stopped walking, then slowly turned toward the two strangers and realized they were not ordinary humans, already suspecting they would not be staying in this place for long.

'I don't know why, but I'm a little scared and nervous facing the famous killer Lamena directly because I can't fulfill his request. Even though his tone is relaxed, not oppressive like the rumors say. But that's exactly what makes me unable to look directly at his face.'

Hana felt defeated as she looked away, restraining her fingers that moved on their own beneath the black gloves covering them.

Meanwhile, without hesitation, Aaron finally spoke in a restrained tone,

"No need to ask too many questions, and I'll pay according to the previous agreement."

Then he glanced sideways, making Zavi return it with a bitter smile, hoping Aaron would handle this plan himself.

"We'll just follow their game from here on," whispered the man named Yaka so as not to seem too suspicious of the client's request, acting professionally and getting what he wanted.

"Alright, I won't ask him about it anymore," Nowel replied in a whisper.

Even in their dirty line of work, those two men and even the others in the same group still obeyed one absolute rule of the underground mercenary groups; never kill the client before the job is finished.

That rule became the foundation of the group, causing the people there to submit to the one person who held control over the organization that operated in secrecy. Even though the names of the hired groups often appeared in public newspapers, all of that kept the group alive and continuing their dirty work solely to fulfill their own desires.

After being lost in their respective thoughts for too long, they immediately descended the building by the stairs and quickly moved on because the day had already changed.

Thursday the 16th. 00:05 AM.
