Chapter 91: Not Fast Enough
My head throbbed, but my thoughts... they felt unsettled. Like something had been knocked loose, and now it was drifting just beneath the surface.Randomly, I thought of that scene in The Avengers Loki using his staff to control minds, and Black Widow snapping Hawkeye out of it by whacking his head.
Weird reference, sure, but it stuck with me. Maybe something had been rattled loose in my brain just now. And whatever it was... maybe it was the key to everything that had been feeling off inside me.
Maybe tomorrow, I’d get answers. Maybe not.
But something had definitely started.
A scream tore from my throat before I could stop it. My hands flew to my head, trying to hold myself together as everything every damn memory poured into me all at once. It was like my mind was a dam bursting open, flooding with images and sounds and voices so many voices. My wolf’s, my own, strangers... echoes that overlapped and clashed until I couldn’t make sense of anything.
The pressure built fast like my skull couldn’t hold the power trying to claw its way out. My body began to tremble violently, muscles spasming as if some invisible force was trying to tear me apart from the inside. I dropped to the floor, thrashing, helpless, like a puppet yanked by too many strings.
Something dark and fiery surged in my chest, like lava rushing through my veins hot, alive, and completely out of control.
I gasped for air, my chest rising and falling in shallow, frantic bursts. Everything burned my mind, my body, my soul. My eyes rolled back. And just before the darkness took me, a single image seared into my brain.
Blue eyes. Dark hair.
And then... the warm trickle of blood slid from my nose.
"Zaliver," I whispered brokenly, right before the world went black.
I didn’t know how long I’d been out, but when I came to, I was still on the cold floor. My entire body ached sore in every place that could hurt. I was hungry, exhausted, and absolutely furious.
