Three Alpha Princes for an Unwanted Omega

Chapter 168: Scenes from the past (i)

Miranda’s eyes remained fixed on the letter, her fingers tightened around the edges of the paper.

Her mind raced.

The Alpha Council were working with Lucius? The rogue king? After everything she had done for them? After all the years she had spent helping them? After swearing allegiance to her?

A cold feeling settled in the pit of her stomach.

It is no wonder they had refused to heed her calls to them. The evidence of their treachery was sitting in her hands.

Miranda’s jaw tightened.

It explained Henry and why he had chosen to betray her. She had thought Henry had simply grown weak.

But this...

They had been going behind her back and making arrangements with Lucius and now he was summoning them to help defeat her!.

The irony was almost laughable.

Miranda’s lips pressed into a thin line.

She had thought everything was finally going in her favor. For the first time in centuries, she had felt something dangerously close to fulfillment.

Morgana had been found and her power had returned.

The princes now knew about the purge or at least a version of what she wanted them to know. She had given them the pieces of the truth that served her.

She had carefully spun the story until the princes believed that Miranda had been the one who had saved their world from a tyrant.

For once, she had been winning.

"Miranda?" Ares’ voice thundered, interrupting her angry thoughts.

Miranda’s eyes lifted slowly.

Ares was watching her carefully and so were Damon and Cassian.

She exhaled and folded the letter handing it back to Damon.

"That man," she said, nodding toward the rider, "will know nothing about them."

Damon frowned.

"And you do?"

"Yes, Prince Damon." Her answer came without hesitation.

"How?" Cassian stepped forward. "What do you know about the Alpha Council?"

"Everything," she said. "Because I created them."

...

Flashback (Before Morgana’s death...Before the purge)

The chamber was enormous.Stone walls stretched high above them, disappearing into darkness.Long candles burned along the walls, their flames dancing whenever the cold wind slipped through the narrow windows.

At the center of the room stood a long black table and around it sat the Alpha Kings of the realm.

They had been waiting for too long and they were angry at being kept waiting.

One of them slammed his fist against the table.

"How much longer are we supposed to wait?" He snarled.

Another man glanced toward the empty chair at the head of the table.

"I do not know."

"They summoned us and yet whoever summoned us is keeping us waiting."

A third man scoffed.

"Perhaps they are not coming and this was just a trick, a play on our minds. It will not be unlike them, would it?."

No one answered because no one wanted to admit that possibility. They had come because they had been promised hope.

That was the only thing keeping them in that room.

The war against the Omega pack had been a disaster.Everything they had attempted had failed. They had attacked the pack from every direction and they had even assassins, poisoned their water to weaken them from within but nothing worked.

Instead, their own men were dying one after another.

Whole groups of warriors falling ill for no just cause. Sometimes even going ahead to collapse on the battlefield without warning.

There are others that had been attacked by strange ailments that even their healers could not identify.

Or was it the things that rose from the ground?

Guturral creatures that no one could figure out... intertwined with roots and vines that grabbed at their ankles until they were fleeing for their lives.

Every attempt to invade them only made the attackers suffer more.

Meanwhile, the Omega territory flourished.

Their crops grew and their people prospered even while they waged war.

It was the Omega queen’s doing.

She was evil, a curse to all they held dear and she had to be wiped out.

Just then the doors opened and a woman walked in, her face covered under a dark hood.

They knew it was a woman because of how delicate her bare feet were, how small her steps and figure was too.

She said nothing to them as she walked unhurried to the head of the table.

The Alpha Kings stiffened, staring at her.

One of them rose immediately.

"Who are you?" he roared.

The woman did not answer, instead she continued walking until she reached the head of the table and stood behind the empty chair.

She turned around and just stood there looking at all of them.

The men exchanged confused glances.

"What is the meaning of this?Who are you? And how did you get in here?

The woman reached up and pulled her hood back to reveal her face. She had a small smile on her face as she stared them all down.

"I am the woman who is going to help you. My name is Miranda."

The Kings all exchanged glances amongst each other. For a moment, no one said anything, then laughter erupted from all ends of the table. Loud, mocking laughter but Miranda did not move a muscle.

"You have some nerve, little girl." One of them finally said. "You have some nerve walking into this room and speaking to us."

He rose from his chair, staring her down.

"You? Help us?" he called out. "We do not allow weak Omegas to speak here."

"I am not an Omega." she held his gaze without flinching. "I am a priestess of the moon goddess."

That only made the laughter louder.

"A priestess." He looked around the table. "You hear that? A priestess."

He finally turned back to her.

"You are a woman, priestess." he snarled. "Women do not speak here."

"Silence."The single word cut through the room.

Every voice died and all heads swerved to the direction of the voice.

A man stood in the doorway.

He was tall and confident and his very presence alone seemed to change the temperature of the room.

He strode into the room, his gaze moving from one Alpha to another, his footsteps echoing against the stone floor.

They all watched him until he reached the empty chair at the head of the table.

He pulled it out and sat down, leaning back with his hands clasped together in front of him.

"And who the hell are you?" One of the Alphas barked, finally finding his voice.

The man regarded him with a gleam in his eyes.

"The name is Caelan."
