GOT: Harry Stark

Chapter 39

An hour later, Mance arrived and immediately suggested going to the giants' camp.

The three of them left and walked through the camp. Remembering Ater, Harry connected his senses with him and found him flirting with a couple of mares on the outskirts.

He couldn't help pursing his lips and quickly cut the connection, not wanting to feel anything Ater was feeling.

They walked several kilometers toward the outskirts of the camp. In the distance, several crude tents made of bone and hide could be seen.

Of course, these were enormous, probably made from mammoth bones and the hides of different animals sewn together.

As they drew closer and he could see the place in more detail, Harry noticed that the magic in the environment was much more active.

The three reached the edge of the camp, but no one came out to greet them.

Harry ignored the looks they received from some of the giants, including several giant children who were still taller than him.

Looking at his palm, he watched as the mist swirled intensely until it formed a number.

15.9

His eyebrows rose slightly in surprise. It was quite high, so he couldn't help looking at the giants' camp with some suspicion.

The giants in front of him were not as large as those from his previous world, but they definitely looked more human.

Their body proportions were very similar to those of a human, only much larger. Their facial features were somewhat coarse, with broad jaws and thick noses.

Even so, they were still magical creatures. He wondered if there was any correlation between greater magical activity in the environment and the presence of a magical creature or a group of them.

Lost in thought, he simply observed them. Some were making tools or eating, while the children wrestled with each other for fun.

"Now what?" Val said after they had spent several seconds at the entrance to the camp without anyone coming to greet them.

Harry also seemed lost in thought, so Val ended up looking at Mance.

"Mag should be back from hunting soon. I asked about the hunting party a few hours ago," Mance said as he waited patiently.

"Look, there they come," Mance said, pointing into the distance and drawing both of their attention in that direction.

A group of giants was approaching them, some riding woolly mammoths and others walking. The bodies of several aurochs and a snow bear could be seen across the back of one of the mammoths.

At the front of the group was a giant noticeably larger than the others.

His gaze fixed on them from a distance as he slowly approached atop his mammoth.

Once he was close enough, the giant jumped off his mammoth and landed heavily. The ground shook for an instant as snow was sent flying.

His footsteps resounded heavily as he approached, leaving deep prints in the snow. Even his breathing was clearly audible. Harry didn't know whether he was trying to display his power or if that was simply his natural behavior.

Mance took the initiative and spoke in a language incomprehensible to Harry, filled with guttural sounds. Harry paid close attention, trying to memorize it.

Harry didn't understand what Mance said to him, but by looking into the giant's large eyes, he could observe his surface thoughts.

Thoughts did not really have a language. He could even understand those of an animal that lacked a systematic language.

After all, what he perceived were images, concepts, emotions, intentions, and memories. Putting all of that together, he could understand what someone was thinking.

The giant looked at him. His thoughts showed curiosity upon hearing that he was a Stark, but also irritation. Even thousands of years ago, when the Wall was built, the giants had only helped in exchange for something; they had never submitted.

As Val had said, they were terribly stubborn.

No matter how much he tried to convince them, they would not obey him. For creatures capable of tearing down the gates of the tunnels beneath the Wall, his permission to cross was irrelevant.

If dialogue wasn't going to work, then he would have to make a show of strength.

The conversation seemed to have reached an unsatisfactory conclusion.

Clearing his throat to get the attention of the three of them, he slipped a hand inside his clothes and pulled out his wand. His thumb brushed over its smooth, perfectly polished surface.

The three looked at him in confusion, especially Val. She had never seen that strange white branch before, but it immediately reminded her of the weirwoods.

Their meeting in the middle of the snow was drawing quite a bit of attention; both the giants and several humans from the camp were watching them.

It was then that Harry smiled.

"Tell him he's about to see why I think he should obey me if he seeks protection," Harry said, looking at Mance, his wand spinning skillfully in his hand as some excitement appeared on his face.

Mance didn't dare delay and quickly relayed his words, feeling a bad premonition.

Looking at the wand in his hand, Harry raised it above his head while making a slow, wide circle.

"Firestorm," Harry murmured in a language that none of the three who heard him understood.

Orange fire erupted fiercely from the ground and spread at great speed, completely surrounding them and forming an enormous vortex. The flames surged toward the sky, creating a striking scene.

Everyone could feel the heat, and the hiss of evaporating water reminded them that this was no illusion.

The flames swirled several meters away from them, leaving an empty space at the center of the vortex. Even so, the heat they gave off was suffocating, making the air itself seem to burn.

Amazement and fear seized everyone at the sight of the wild orange flames. The onlookers began backing away from the suffocating heat.

Mance and the giant looked at each other in horror, not only because of the fire, but because of the ability to create something like that out of nothing.

Even Val couldn't help gripping Harry's arm tightly as she pressed her body as close to his as possible.

The abundant magic in the giants' camp, much more active than in other places, allowed him to maintain the spell for barely ten seconds.

The magic in the surroundings was quickly depleted and, before he could react, his wand began drawing magic from his own body. His lips twisted into a grimace as he quickly canceled the spell.

The flames seemed to lose their fuel as the whirlwind dissipated into the air, finally allowing the spectators to see the four people inside once again.

Harry felt like everything was spinning. He could only use his Occlumency to maintain a calm expression as he constantly drew on his bond with Ater.

The giant looked around with lingering fear. The snow had melted away, revealing the smoking black earth. His people behind him still seemed frightened, gripping their crude weapons as they looked fearfully at the young Stark.

His gaze returned to Harry as his enormous eyes fixed on the strange branch in Harry's hand.

Mag no longer showed the same resistance as before. He understood that difficult times could come with the rise of the Others.

His people were few and if someone could truly protect them, he didn't mind bowing his head.

Just from the display of power he had just witnessed, he was sure that most of his people thought the same.

So lowering his head and leaning his torso forward slightly, he spoke several words Harry couldn't understand, but by looking into his eyes, he knew what he meant.

Nodding kindly toward the giant, Harry looked at Mance and told him to let him know about any problems.

Ater finally arrived in response to his call, offering his back to Harry as he watched the giant warily.

Gesturing to Val, they both quickly climbed onto his back before Ater carried them away, leaving behind a completely silent scene.

Val remained silent the entire way. Although she knew Harry could use magic, she hadn't thought it could be unleashed on such a large scale. She had even thought they would die amidst the wild flames and terrifying heat.

For an instant, she couldn't help feeling afraid of Harry. Biting her lip, she quickly tried to push that thought from her mind as her hands tightened around Harry's clothes.

Ater's neigh pulled her from her thoughts, and noticing that they had stopped, she looked around and realized they had arrived beside a stream where a weirwood stood.

Ater crouched down, allowing Harry to dismount unsteadily, which immediately surprised Val.

Quickly jumping off Ater, she approached Harry and hugged him as she looked at his face.

Her eyes showed concern when she saw that his face was incredibly pale.

''What's wrong?'' Val asked quickly as she put Harry's arm around her body and supported him.

''I overdid it a little with the spell,'' Harry said, smiling weakly at her.

Val looked at Harry in silence before laughing softly and pulling him down, causing them both to fall against Ater as she hugged his head with a smile.

''Don't take advantage of this, I won't be weak forever,'' Harry said as he settled his head against Val's chest.

Small threads of magic constantly entered his body, but this weirwood was much smaller than the one at the castle, so it would probably take him a few hours to recover.

''So you're not a god,'' Val suddenly said as she intertwined her fingers with Harry's hair.

The barrier she had felt between them for a moment crumbled with surprising ease.

''Of course I'm not,'' Harry said, chuckling.

''While I was there, surrounded by that scorching fire, I thought you were,'' Val said seriously.

''Would you like me to be?'' Harry asked curiously.

"I don't know. I think I prefer you being human. I feel closer to you that way," Val said.

"That's pretty cheesy," Harry said with a chuckle.

"Shut up," Val said, gently pulling at his hair.

Harry only laughed without continuing the subject. Val's caresses made him feel really sleepy, and he didn't know when, but he ended up falling asleep.

Val continued gently stroking Harry's hair as she watched him sleep.

It was strange. Barely a few minutes ago he had seemed like a creature capable of reducing an army to ashes, and now he rested weakly in her arms.

When he woke up, it was already night. Val had spent who knew how many hours holding him, while Ater was still there serving as a backrest for them.

When he raised his head, he saw Val stir awake at his movement. Seeing that he looked much better, she smiled, knowing he was fine now.

''Get up, my ass is freezing,'' Val said, patting him on the back.

Harry let out a soft laugh as he quickly helped her to her feet, noticing that her nose was red and her lips slightly purple.

His hand quickly moved toward her body, temporarily enchanting her clothes to increase their temperature.

A little steam began to rise from her clothes as Val let out a soft moan at the warmth surrounding her.

''Useful as always,'' Val said with a smile.

''Let's go back before they suspect I passed out from casting a spell for just a few seconds,'' Harry said, stroking Ater as he helped Val climb on.

''Hm, you usually last much longer,'' Val said, looking at him mischievously.

Harry only rolled his eyes as he climbed onto Ater.

Val smiled before climbing on as well and wrapping her arms around his abdomen to hold on.

....

Without Harry knowing it, his actions had not only impacted the giants. A large part of the people in the camp had seen the flash of fire in the distance.

Mance was left alone in the area with Mag. Both of them looked at Harry's back before looking at each other.

The melted snow still bubbled and hissed over the hot ground, leaving clear proof of what had just happened.

Not knowing what else to say, they exchanged a few words before parting ways. Both had a lot to think about.

Mance walked back with a somewhat grim look. He had always been cautious of Harry's power, but now he was terrified.

Such power was not something humans should possess.

It was then that the sound of hundreds of footsteps made him look up.

Normally this might have put him on alert, but at that moment he had no doubt about where they were going.

''Mance! What happened here?'' a man asked, looking at him.

Mance remained silent for a moment before grimacing.

''A sorcerer, the man with the giant horse. With a wave of his hand, he surrounded us with an enormous whirlwind of fire,'' Mance said, looking at the people.

Behind him, the ground was still smoking and the melted snow was creating small streams.

''You shouldn't be afraid, he's our ally, he'll protect us from the Others,'' Mance said, looking at the crowd.

''Why would he?'' a man quickly asked.

''That's right, what does he want in return?''

Murmurs quickly spread through the crowd. Many didn't even wait for his answer and approached the large snow-free area, crouching down to touch the still-warm ground.

''You know that corpses rise as wights. The more of us survive, the fewer wights there will be,'' Mance said, looking at the people as he suppressed the urge to curse.

Why were they so sensitive about that subject? Many were almost mechanically muttering that they wouldn't kneel to anyone.

''Is he someone from the Wall? Only they would care about that,'' someone shouted from the crowd.

"He told me he wasn't from the Wall. If he were, our attack would be doomed to fail. How many of us would die if those flames appeared in the middle of our camp?" Mance said to the crowd.

In his mind, Mance thought that he wasn't lying. Harry wasn't from the Wall; he was simply its owner.

The crowd grew larger and larger while the rumors became increasingly exaggerated, but he didn't care.

The more exaggerated Harry's power seemed, the more cautious the tribes would be.

That fear would give him time. Little by little, he would dilute the strength of the camp, sending the more peaceful tribes toward the Wall first. When the troublesome ones finally realized what he was doing, he hoped there would already be too few of them to pose a real threat.

….

Dacey looked at Bear Island from the ship with a faint smile.

The mist wrapped around the mountains, giving the island a mystical appearance.

She had always liked that view.

The journey had been long, but quite some time had passed since her last visit. She wanted to know how her bears, her mother, her sisters, and her people were doing.

''Thank you for bringing me,'' Dacey said, looking at the owner of the ship.

''It's a pleasure, Lady Mormont,'' the man said, making a respectful gesture.

Dacey nodded before jumping off the ship with her luggage, the stones crunching beneath her feet as the familiar sound of the waves calmed her.

Looking around, nothing seemed to have changed. It was still a poor and run-down place.

Mud accumulated everywhere due to the humidity and constant rain, giving the island a dirty appearance.

Dacey felt conflicted seeing it after growing accustomed to Winterfell's cement floors and its beautiful roads.

She wanted her people to have something similar, and it wasn't impossible, but she would be crossing a line.

Accepting something Harry gave her was one thing. Using their relationship for the benefit of her House was another.

Her relationship was with Harry, the warrior and the wizard. Just him, without his surname or status.

''Sister,'' a soft voice said, pulling her from her thoughts.

''Lyanna,'' Dacey said, smiling at her as she crouched down and lifted her with one arm while she began walking home.

''Asha had cubs,'' Lyanna said with a small smile, unable to keep herself from saying it.

''Really?'' Dacey said in surprise.

''Yes, they're very cute,'' Lyanna said with a giggle.

''And what about Uru? That lazy bear, did he find a mate?'' Dacey asked as she entered her home.

''I don't know, we haven't seen him in several months,'' Lyanna said, shaking her head with some concern.

''I see,'' Dacey said with a sigh, hoping he was alright.

Entering her home, she immediately saw her mother, who gave her the usual smile while looking at her with interest.

''Hello, Mother,'' Dacey said, greeting Maege.

''You're back,'' Maege said, smiling at her.

''Hm, I'll be on the island for a while, in a few months we'll travel to Essos,'' Dacey said, setting down her younger sister and her luggage.

''You live well, Lady Stark,'' Maege said teasingly, though she was still happy that her daughter was traveling and seeing the world.

Dacey simply dropped heavily into the fur-covered seat with a sigh and didn't bother answering her.

''Mom, do you think the people on the island would like to be richer?'' Dacey asked, looking at Maege.

''Leaving aside a few stubborn old people, I think most would like to have a more comfortable life,'' Maege said after looking at her daughter for a few seconds.

Dacey remained silent with a deeply conflicted expression on her face.

''What if I asked Ha-''

"Don't even think about it! You're not a prostitute. If you want Harry to help you, then pay him properly," Maege said with a serious expression as she looked at her daughter.

''I'd like that. It's just that I feel a little lost. I don't know how to make money or create the changes Harry made for his people. I can't even ask him for seeds; there's hardly anywhere to plant on this island,'' Dacey said with a bitter smile.

''There's not much we can do. Bear Island has always been a harsh land,'' Maege said, shaking her head, clearly without any ideas.

Dacey looked out the window toward the old wooden houses and frowned slightly. After seeing how much Winterfell had changed, she found it difficult to accept that there really was nothing they could do.

They both remained silent for several seconds while Lyanna watched them with an innocent expression.

''I heard Uru is missing,'' Dacey said, changing the subject with an uncomfortable expression.

''Yes, I'm preparing a group to look for him, since you're here you can go with them,'' Maege said, nodding.

''Hm, I'll go see Asha,'' Dacey said, nodding.

''Go, maybe she'll calm down a little with you around, she's been irritable since she had her cubs,'' Maege said.

Dacey only smiled as she looked at Lyanna, who had remained silent throughout the discussion.

''Let's go,'' Dacey said, holding out her hand.

Lyanna smiled widely before taking her hand and happily walking out.

Maege watched Dacey's back as she walked away. Her closeness with Harry seemed to have softened her a little; she hadn't been so affectionate with her younger sisters before.

Shaking her head, Maege went back to her own affairs.
