GOT: Harry Stark

Chapter 52

Harry walked down the tower stairs while cursing under his breath. Val really was a succubus; time had slipped away before he realized it.

As he went down, he immediately heard a chorus of howls and whimpers from the pups.

Entering Sansa's room first, since it was the closest, he saw her sitting in front of the pup with a desperate expression.

She had tried everything: food, water, petting, even talking to it in a silly way, but nothing worked.

Harry arrived like her savior, grabbing the little one by the scruff before making it drink the potion in one go.

Sansa watched in amazement as the pup began to whine drowsily before falling asleep.

"Is it for sleeping?" Sansa asked, looking at the pup, now sleeping peacefully in her arms.

"It's so it'll be smarter and stronger when it grows up. Remember to be firm so it obeys you and you don't end up obeying it," Harry said teasingly as he pinched Sansa's cheek and left the room.

Sansa simply made a face before putting the pup beside her and going to sleep.

Harry repeated the same thing with his younger siblings, managing to bring some silence to the castle. As for Jon, he simply gave him the potion and let him handle it.

After taking a quick bath, Harry went to Barbrey's room to sleep with her. He was a little late, but he had just returned and had many things to do.

Entering the room, he noticed that Barbrey was still awake, reclining against the bed with a book in her hands.

The candles danced, casting irregular shadows. Her black hair was loose and she was wearing a nightgown.

Seeing the title of the book, he realized it was about childbirth and caring for babies.

It seemed she really was uneasy about the matter, not that he could blame her.

Barbrey looked up and barely gave a small smile before closing her book and setting it aside.

Lis was still in the room, sitting in a rocking chair while sewing skillfully. He assumed she was there for anything Barbrey might need, perhaps she even slept in the same room.

"You're late," Barbrey said, looking at him.

"Lots of things to do," Harry said with a casual smile as he sat on the bed.

His hand unconsciously reached toward her abdomen, finding its texture and the idea that there was a little person inside, his child, incredibly fascinating.

Feeling Harry's hand slowly caressing her abdomen, Barbrey truly felt that she was at the best point of her life.

And soon it would be even better.

"Lis, how about you go take a bath? A long one," Barbrey said, looking at her.

Lis looked wordlessly at her mistress before nodding helplessly and leaving the room.

Once they were alone, Barbrey looked at Harry with a smile before pulling back the bedsheets.

….

The next day.

Harry woke up with Barbrey beside him. She had her back to him while her hands rested on her abdomen.

Looking at her, he couldn't help thinking that eight months ago she had rejected the idea of coming to Winterfell, and now she was going to give birth in the very castle she had tried so hard to avoid.

Without waking her, he got up only to find Lis there. She looked at him awkwardly.

He remembered hearing her enter the room after Barbrey had fallen asleep.

Harry greeted her with a slight nod before leaving.

The first thing he did was head up to his room to see his two little babies.

When he opened the door, he didn't find the two little ones running restlessly around the room, but instead found a black-haired young girl crouching beside two plates of food.

It was a little strange to see Daenerys with black hair. A genuine smile adorned her face as she simply watched the little ones eat.

"Up early, aren't you?" Harry said with a smile as he crouched beside her, reaching out to run a hand along the little direwolf's back as it let out small growls, as if warning him not to take its food.

"I brought them food, but you were nowhere to be found," Daenerys said, looking at Harry.

"It's fine, thank you for going to the trouble," Harry said, smiling at her. He noticed that both of them seemed to have grown a little.

But it was a side effect of taking the potion for the first time.

Once a week would be enough, although adding the other pups would make it a bit of work.

Since Daenerys was taking care of the little ones, he began attending to his own affairs.

Approaching his desk, he saw several letters that had arrived while he was away. They had accumulated into a small pile, and he assumed Arya had brought them.

Catching up on everything, he learned that the train line from north to south had been completed.

It was now possible to travel from the Wall to Moat Cailin in around 24 hours, something that was impossible even for Ater.

After the line was completed, Philip had also begun rebuilding Moat Cailin under Harry's orders, creating a small town just outside.

Cement remained the best tool, so much so that the scale of production had been expanded.

There were now two planned routes ready for construction: one from White Harbor to Winterfell and another from Winterfell to Barrowtown.

That way, most of the North would be connected, allowing him to move cargo, people, or soldiers faster than anyone could react.

If he launched an attack, his army would probably already be marching through enemy lands by the time news reached the lord being attacked.

Margaery had also replied to the letter he had sent her before leaving for Essos. Their conversations had begun after she returned to Highgarden.

Even so, it was difficult to have a proper conversation when each reply took more than a month.

Things at the Wall were going well, but he had received a letter from Mance that made his expression turn serious.

They had captured a wight.

It was a task Harry had given him a long time ago and one of the main reasons Mance still remained there.

He needed something that could convince his father and the Night's Watch, and a wight was the perfect option.

It seemed he would have to go to the Wall soon.

More Free Folk had also moved near the Wall, with many waiting for Harry so they could travel to the land he had promised them.

Of course, those who remained probably weren't as peaceful as the ones he had sent to Sea Dragon Point.

That was why he needed to be there, filtering out those who had no intention of changing their ways.

Harry planned to lower his standards a little and give them the opportunity to stay at the Wall and defend it; they would have food, battles, and even the brothels in Mole's Town.

If they couldn't adapt to civilization, he would throw them off the Wall.

Shaking his head, Harry took out his quill and began answering letters.

Daenerys, seeing that he was busy, looked at the little dragon and direwolf, who were minding their own business, before taking the tray she had brought the food on and quietly heading downstairs without disturbing him.

She still felt a little shy in an unfamiliar environment, but somehow, the fact that no one knew who she was made her feel freer.

There was no pressure from her brother looking for the highest bidder, no throne or revenge, just a young girl.

Leaving the tray in the kitchen, Daenerys left the tower and looked around curiously. Everything looked really clean and orderly.

The ground looked like one gigantic carved stone, something she had never seen in the Free Cities.

Harry had told her she could explore as much as she wanted, so that was exactly what she did. Without knowing where she was going, perhaps by chance, she reached the training yard.

Daenerys watched the soldiers training. It wasn't an unusual sight for her; she had occasionally watched them from her balcony as well.

But something she had never seen before was two women fighting with weapons. Val and Dacey were fighting fiercely.

If she hadn't known them, she would have thought they were mortal enemies. Her heart jumped several times when their weapons clashed.

At times, she thought one of them might end up killing the other.

Although she had heard that they were Harry's guards, she had thought it was simply a way of saying that they were really just his bed companions.

It was then that a door seemed to open for her. Could women wield weapons too?

Looking at her small, white, delicate hands, Daenerys doubted she could.

The moment she took her eyes off the fight between them, something happened, as she heard a curse and, when she looked back, saw Dacey on the ground.

"Crazy bitch," Dacey said, looking reproachfully at Val, who was clutching her arm with a grimace of pain.

"You lost," Val said with a pained smile.

"Just because Harry can heal us doesn't mean we should take it this far," Dacey said, rubbing her chest in pain.

"A real enemy would attack you like that," Val said, looking at Dacey.

Dacey rolled her eyes but said nothing to contradict her, since it was true. Although taking a hit just to win... it seemed to her that it had been more about getting Harry's attention, but she didn't blame her, since she had also gotten hurt.

Maybe a massage for her chest wouldn't be so bad.

"Oh, Dany, you're there," Dacey said, suddenly noticing her watching them.

Val turned around somewhat cautiously when she heard Dacey, suspecting that she only wanted to distract her to get revenge.

But no, she really was there.

"You're both really good at fighting," Daenerys said with a hint of envy in her tone, approaching once she realized they had noticed her.

"We've both been using weapons since we were young," Dacey said naturally.

"Want to try?" Val said, looking at Daenerys before holding out the sword's hilt.

Daenerys looked at the hilt and, with some curiosity, reached out with both hands to take it.

"It's heavy," Daenerys said, lifting with both hands a weapon unlike anything she had ever held before.

"All weapons are. This is a one-handed sword, light and fast, but there are also greatswords, like the ones Harry usually uses, which are much heavier."

"In your case... well, I'd recommend a dagger just for self-defense," Val said, pursing her lips as she looked at Daenerys's thin arms.

Her cheeks were beginning to turn red from the effort of holding the sword in front of her.

"Do you think Harry would let me learn?" Daenerys asked uncertainly, looking at both of them.

"Look over there," Dacey said, pointing toward the archery range.

Daenerys looked in the direction Dacey had indicated and was surprised to see Arya and Sansa shooting bows.

"For starters, I don't think Harry would stop you from leaving if you asked him, so you don't have to act as though he's keeping you here by force," Val said, rolling her eyes.

"I... it's not like I have anywhere to go either," Daenerys said with an awkward smile.

"If you want to learn, just ask Harry. I think he could give you a good solution," Dacey said, smiling at her.

Daenerys nodded distractedly as she watched Arya and Sansa compete at archery. Curiously, Arya, the younger one, seemed to be better at it.

Dacey turned to look at Val and was surprised to find her nowhere in sight. Cursing under her breath, she assumed Val had run off to Harry to have him heal her arm and, not wanting to find them in the middle of the act, casually said goodbye to Daenerys and ran toward the tower.

Daenerys spent quite a while watching Arya and Sansa. The bow seemed like a pretty good option for learning how to defend herself.

That way, perhaps she would never feel so helpless again. Her fingers moved toward her face; sometimes she could still feel her brother's fists raining down on it.

After a while, Daenerys decided to continue her walk and, somehow, ended up reaching the library, which truly caught her interest. There wasn't a book there she couldn't read; her Valyrian was completely native, perhaps even better than Harry's.

Absorbed in the books, she spent almost the entire day in the library.

She only returned when Maester Luwin reminded her that it was time for dinner.

Harry looked at Daenerys and smiled, asking how her day had been. After speaking briefly with her, he recommended some books when he learned that she had gone to the library.

"Nymeria, that's enough," Arya said, raising her voice when she saw her direwolf trying to steal food from Sansa's direwolf.

"Nymeria?" Harry asked with amusement.

"That's what I named her," Arya said proudly.

Laughing softly, Harry turned to look at his brother.

"And you, Jon?" Harry asked, looking at him.

"Ghost," Jon said as he ate.

Arya immediately burst out laughing, thinking her name was much better, before looking at Harry, wanting to know what he had named his.

"I haven't decided yet," Harry said with a shrug.

"I named her Lady," Sansa said even though no one had asked her.

"Sansa, sweetheart, when she grows up she'll be the size of a horse and will be able to devour people easily. Don't embarrass her when she has to tell the other wolves her name," Harry said jokingly.

"They grow that big?" Catelyn suddenly asked, wondering if she should have insisted more on preventing all of this from happening. Just imagining it gave her a headache.

"It's a good thing. That way they'll all have a companion to protect them," Harry said with a smile.

"By the way, neither of you came to my room," Harry said, looking at his parents. Although it sounded like a complaint, in the end things had gone exactly as he'd expected: his parents hadn't gone.

"Too many stairs," Catelyn said, pursing her lips. She had stopped in front of the stairs, but in the end had decided to leave it at that.

It was just a gift. When her son got tired of keeping it, he would give it to her.

"Fine, but for the record, I told you. I don't want any complaints later," Harry said with a smile.

"Mother still doesn't know?" Arya asked with surprise and amusement.

Sansa also let out a small laugh as she looked at her mother.

Catelyn simply snorted softly, ignoring her daughters. She wouldn't fall for that kind of provocation.

"The train lines now reach all the way to the Wall, in case you didn't know. I was thinking we could all go so you could see it," Harry said, changing the subject.

"Oh, I want to go. Can you climb the Wall?" Bran asked.

"I've heard people have done it, but I don't think you can do it with just your hands," Harry said with a smile.

"They actually do it with picks and ropes. It's really dangerous, and many of them end up dying when they hit the ground," Val said, giving Bran a grim smile.

Bran simply rolled his eyes, since he had been told similar things dozens of times to stop him from climbing.

Maester Luwin had even gone to the trouble of making a clay figure to show him what it would be like to fall from the Wall.

Harry laughed before looking at Barbrey.

"Do you want to come?" Harry said, looking at her. Barbrey held her fork elegantly as she sat straight and dignified, although Harry found the sight a little comical with her belly so large.

"Of course. I haven't had the chance to see the most magnificent construction in the North," Barbrey said with a slight smile.

Harry simply nodded. He would have to prepare some warm clothes for her.

"Is it safe for Lady Dustin to go this late in her pregnancy?" Catelyn asked, briefly looking at Barbrey before turning to Harry.

"Don't worry, I'll make sure it's safe," Harry said, reassuring her.

Catelyn simply nodded as she glanced at Barbrey's large belly. The time was near and, honestly, she was quite curious to see what Harry's child would be like.

Would the baby be as quiet as Harry had been? Would the child be just as smart as Harry when they grew up? Would they inherit his magic? Many questions filled her mind as she thought about the little life yet to be born.

She couldn't help thinking that if Harry's children inherited his magic, it would probably create a parallel with the Targaryens.

"I haven't seen Benjen in a long time," Ned said, changing the subject. He also liked the idea of seeing the Wall and how it had changed.

"Perfect, then tomorrow we'll leave for Steam Town, stay there for one night, and the next day we'll leave for the Wall," Harry said with a smile.

The most confused of all was, of course, Daenerys. She had also heard of the Wall and was quite curious to see it, but somehow she didn't understand what they were talking about.

That night, Harry didn't spend the night with Barbrey. After all, he had to be fair. Dacey also insisted quite a bit and eventually dethroned Val, who complained but went to her room anyway.
