Chapter 84: You Always Find A Way To Ruin My Fun.
April
First, it was Katie’s harem interrupting our fun. I was still trying to process the situation, watching her make out with two people.
And now this one shows up holding a what now, a basket.
Can’t I have an Alpha-free day?
What is she even doing here to begin with?
I squeezed my hands tight under the surface, letting out a sharp breath of air that bubbled up near my chin as I stared at the devil standing on the shore.
"Oi, Angel, are you here to have fun with us?" Carlos shouted as everyone laughed.
He splashed his arms against the surface, sending a light spray of water floating toward the grassy bank.
"Oh, no, no, no. I am here to have a good picnic with Coco," Angel said.
Terror?
I looked around, but that orange fur wasn’t even there.
My green eyes scanned the thick grass and low bushes around her weird looking boots, but there was no sign of a bright coat anywhere on the ground.
"Where is she, then?" Abigail asked.
She wiped a few wet strands of hair from her forehead, leaning forward in the water to get a clearer view.
Thank goodness she asked, because I was going to ask..
Angel dropped the basket and removed the cloth covering it. The furry cat popped her head out.
The orange cat yawned, stretching her front paws over the edge of the woven container before blinking her big eyes at the sunlight.
Angel spread the cloth onto the ground, she smoothed the colorful checkered fabric flat over the grass with long, easy motions before scooping the cat up in one broad hand and setting her right in the middle.
"Since when do you do picnics? It’s not something you do, don’t even think it’s in your so called dictionary.." Abigail said, looking at the Alpha girl as she brought out different varieties of fruits, milk, bread, and other food.
"Coco loves the forest, and I decided to treat her today. Bonding with my little baby girl," Angel said, brushing the cat’s fur before pouring milk into her bowl.
She ran her long fingers over the cat’s back, her voice dropping into that surprisingly soft tone she only reserved for the orange animal while filling a small plastic dish.
"Angel is lying. She doesn’t do this kind of stuff, especially in an environment like this," Abigail whispered into my ear.
Her breath came out warm against my shoulder as she leaned over, her voice dropping into a barely audible mutter under the sound of the wind.
"This girl is into you hard," Carlos whispered.
He paddled closer on my other side, his wet face splitting into a broad, mischievous grin that made my stomach do a sudden flip.
"This is just her excuse to see you without admitting it," Sabrina whispered.
She nodded in agreement, her eyes locked onto Angel’s sharp profile as the red-haired girl carefully broke off a piece of soft bread.
"I’m not the only one here. Maybe she wants to spend time with you guys," I said.
My hands pushed through the cool water, trying to keep my posture relaxed and unbothered while my cheeks burned under their intense stares.
Because that had to be the reason. I wasn’t that special in her life for her to come all the way here just for me.
She was an Alpha who did whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted, and the idea that she tracked down a lake deep in the forest just to be near me was crazy.
"There have been so many times I’ve begged that girl to go on a picnic somewhere like this, and she refuses every time," Abigail said.
She shook her head with a dry chuckle, crossing her arms over her chest as she floated in place.
We watched the cat and her owner having their little moment, and I’m pretty sure Angel’s eyes kept darting toward the lake, trying to catch a glimpse of us.
Every time she lifted a piece of fruit or adjusted Coco’s bowl, her crimson gaze flicked sideways, lingering on the water for a split second before snapping right back down.
"Should we ask her to join us? It would be fun swimming with her," Katie said.
She wiped a drop of water off her nose, looking eager as she pointed toward the tall figure sitting on the blanket.
"No. Angel won’t enter the water. She hates it," Abigail said.
Her voice turned firm, stopping Katie before she could even raise her hand to shout across the grass.
"What is she, a cat that hates water? I heard she’s a good swimmer," I muttered.
It brought back the night Angel used a net to pull me out of the swimming pool back at the mansion.
Instead of just diving in to bring me out.
I would never forget that night. Never.. that night was the beginning of all this heartache..
"You’ve lived with Angel for four years and you don’t know why she stopped swimming?" Carlos asked.
His eyes wide with actual disbelief as he stared at me across the small gap between us.
"No," I shook my head, my throat feeling dry despite being waist-deep in the lake.
I have lived with that girl for four years and I don’t know anything about her so how on earth am I supposed to know why she doesn’t swim..
"Why did she stop swimming, can someone tell me?" Katie asked, waiting for an answer.
She leaned in close, her eyes switching between Carlos and Sabrina with intense curiosity.
Carlos was about to say something, but Sabrina poked him with her elbow.
The sharp jab hit his ribs with a quiet thud, cutting off his words instantly as Sabrina shot her twin a strict, warning look that made him shut his mouth tight.
"Let’s just end the swimming and go join that Alpha and her lovely cutie cat," Abigail said, already getting out of the lake.
The twins followed, along with Katie.
Carlos splashed out right behind her, grabbing a towel from his bicycle, while Sabrina guided Katie up the slippery bank with a hand on her waist.
If it were up to me, I’d rather bury myself inside this lake than spend time with that devil of a girl..
I stood there alone in the water for a moment, watching the four of them walk toward the where our stuff was, drying themselves.
Abigail and Katie had been trying to teach me how to swim. We happened to be in the shallow zone, where the water was only waist-deep. Moving farther out would take us into deeper water.
The dark green water stretched out behind me, looking deep and terrifying, a strong reminder that I couldn’t float on my own for more than five seconds.
And I’m also not ready to drown, not today in front of that crimson eyes..
I’m not going to embarrass myself dear selff.
I sighed softly, taking a deep breath of the cool air to steady my racing heart before taking my first step toward the shoreline.
I had no choice but to drag myself out of the lake.
Curse you, Angel Morningstar.
You always find a way to ruin my fun.
