My entire body hurts, it feels like I’ve been severely beaten up. The only thing that makes it feel a little better is mama’s warmth and scent next to me.
Opening my eyes, I seem to be in a medical room. I’m also back to my cursed form.
“Mama?”
“Rose!? Yes, dear? Are you alright!?”
“Everything hurts.”
Holding my ears closed for a second she yells something in Draconic then lets my ears go and answers, “Don’t worry, dear. Mama will take care of it.”
“Am I going to die, mama?”
“No, of course not. Don’t worry dear, you’ll be alright, you hear me? Your mama will take care of it.”
“Okay…I love you mama.”
“I love you too, dear!”
Multiple doctors then enter the room and inspect me. One of them is a Losta with a sharkhead and there are also two Seaelves and a few aquatic looking beastkin. The head doctor, who I’m a little familiar with from his check ups, walks up to me and in a kind voice asks,
“Good morning Princess, can you speak right now?”
“Yes.”
“Great, how are you feeling?”
“My whole body hurts.”
“Could you describe what kind of pain it is? Also is it really everywhere or just in certain areas?”
“It feels like I was beaten up. There are a bunch of spots that hurt all over.”
“I see…Do you feel strange or different in any other ways?”
“Yeah…My hands and feet feel weird and my back is itchy.”
“Your whole back or a certain area?”
“Mostly around my spine.”
“Can you move your body?”
In immense pain I try to sit up but the doctor stops me halfway, “That’s good enough your Highness. Don’t strain yourself.”
“Okay…”
Doing some more tests the doctors eventually leave after giving me some medicine against the pain.
“Now dear, is there anything you want? No matter how big or small, just tell your mama.”
“I want to eat some fish and have a hot bath…”
“I’ll have to ask the doctors about the bath first but what kind of fish do you want to eat?”
“Salmon would be nice…”
“Alright, I’ll tell the chef right away, dear. Is there anything else?”
“I want to keep staying with mama…I’m scared.”
“Don’t worry dear, I won’t leave you. Your mama will stay right here with you.”
“Hey mama…”
“Yes, dear?”
“Is it bad that I’m scared of the Spirit Kings?
“No dear, that’s completely normal.”
“Okay…Can you wake me up for the fish and bath? I think I want to sleep some more.”
“Of course, dear.”
Waking up again I smell the scent of both mama and manya. We seem to be back in mama’s bedroom now.
“Scarlet?”
“Rose!? Mama wake up!”
“Dear, are you alright?”
“Yeah…I feel a lot better now. Can we go bathe now?”
“Of course dear…Right after the doctor looked over you again.”
Scarlet starts to cry and hugs me tightly, “Sob I thought you’d never wake up again…I was soooo worried! Sob Sniffle”
“Really? How long was I asleep?”
“About half a year…” mama answers.
“That long!?”
“Yes…But you needed that time to recover, you were badly hurt and went through some changes.”
“What changes?”
“Well…You’re part Waterdragon now which means you can probably swim really well and maybe even breathe under water. Isn’t that exciting?”
“B-but I’m still your daughter right!? They didn’t change that, right?”
“Yes of course you are, dear. You’re still my daughter. And even if we look a little more different than before, our scent is still almost the same so everyone else will know you’re my daughter as well.”
“How do I look different now?”
“Well…For starters you have webbed fingers and toes now…”
“Like a frog?”
“Yes, a really pretty frog.”
“What else?”
“You have a fin going down your spine and a fin on the tip of your tail now.”
“Wait…Is that why my back is so itchy?”
“Most likely…Yes.”
“Anything else?”
“You have some pretty blue scales now and your hair has blue tips. Also one of your eyes has a nice blue color now.”
“Only one of my eyes?”
“...”
“Does it look weird?”
“It looks…Unique. I’m sure the other kids will be jealous of how special you are. It does look pretty but you’re also going to stand out a little more than before.”
“But I was already standing out!”
Scarlet interjects, “Yeah! And now you can be even more unique! Like a model or a famous entertainer.”
“I don’t…I don’t want that though. I just want to be like you and mama…”
“And you still will be, dear. Think of your changes more like fun accessories. You are still my pretty daughter and you still look like me, you just have some more fun accessories than we do. Would you like to see for yourself?”
“Yeah…”
Mama hands me a mirror and I look inside. I still look the same goofy way as before in my cursed form but my hair now slowly fades from pink and black stripes to a deep blue towards the tips and my left eye is blue now. It still has the draconic look to it but it doesn’t look like a flame anymore, instead it looks like a deep pond. The skin on my hands is the same shade of blue and goes up to a little above my wrists. There is now also a weird layer of thin light blue skin between my fingers.
“Do my feet look the same?”
Scarlet answers, “Yeah…It looks a bit weird because of your cursed form but in your draconic form it looks cute!”
“Gao?”
“Yes, really!”
“And in my real form? Did it look weird there?”
“Actually it looks a lot nicer because your scales show up as well and your hands look more draconic. So it looks less like a mismatch. And I’m sure once you’re older and can control your polymorphed form better you can just make yourself look like mama in her polymorphed form without any blue scales or webbed fingers.
“Huh…”
“...”
“Hey mama?”
“Yes, dear?”
“I’m going to start training again…Can you help me with getting back the muscle to walk on my own again?”
“Sure, what are you going to train for?”
“I need to get combat ready again so I can leave.”
“A-Are you sure, dear? Don’t you need to rest more?”
“No…The feeling of nearly dying reminded me that I need to go. I rested enough…Everyone must be waiting for me.”
Scarlet asks, “Are you really sure, Rose?”
“Yeah, I’ve rested enough…I’m awake now.”
Mama seems a little apprehensive as she says, “I’ll gladly help you get back to walking, dear but do you really need to be combat ready? We can just send some guards with you until you get ordained and then you can come back, right?”
“Guards would be helpful against the demons…But I also want to be an A-Ranked adventurer before I come back home.”
“Rose…Are you sure about this? You’re barely a D-Ranked adventurer. You’re still very far away from being A-Ranked and you already almost died multiple times. Why not grow up first and then become an adventurer again?”
“After I get ordained I will be C-Ranked so I’m already half of the way there. Also I can learn the water ritual now so I’ll be a lot stronger. I want to get at least to A-Rank and then I’ll retire and come back home.”
“Why do you need to do that, dear?”
“So that even if everything goes wrong I still have a way to support myself. There is no telling whether one of the six will mess with my life again and make it so I can’t stay with you anymore. Even if I trust you mama, you can’t protect me from them, no one can.”
“...”
“Rose, I understand you’re scared but you’re still safe here.”
“Yes…Until they do something weird to me. What if one day they decide it would be fun to make me an Orc and send me across the world somewhere else? Elqueenes didn’t even ask me if I wanted to be part Waterdragon she just changed my race without asking. All because I said I can’t dance for her. I…I’m just a toy to them, mama.”
Hugging me tightly mama whispers, “My dear little, Libella. I’m so sorry. But even if I don’t have the powers to directly oppose the six, please still rely on your mama. Alright?”
“Yeah…Thank you mama, I love you.”
“I love you too, dear.”
