Rayla’s Training I

Meanwhile in Berk, Rayla just finished up explaining the situation to both Shara Seleen and Meshir Bakan.

Sigh I guess I can train you further. At least you weren’t completely resistant to advice.”

“Thank you Meshir Bakan, what will you teach me?”

“We’ll start with this”, she says as she pulls out a vial. “Try drinking half of it, not more.”

“Okay. It’s surprisingly tasteless, what is it?”

“It’s poison.”

“What?”

“We’ll start your resistance training now because it takes the longest. You should be feeling iiiiiittttt soooooooooooon…”

After some time Rayla wakes up in complete agony in a place she doesn’t recognize.

“Good job surviving. Here take another gulp.”

Forcing some more liquid down her throat Rayla passes out again, waking up in agony some time later the same thing happens again. This cycle continues mercilessly over the next three months until Rayla looks like a husk of what she once was.

“Good, you should have built up enough of a resistance to start training without accidentally killing yourself.”

Rayla tries to say something but nothing comes out of her withered body.

“Don’t worry you’ll be fine. Just focus on your natural mana absorption. It has a rejuvenating effect. You’ll be healthy again in two weeks or so.”

A week and a half later, Rayla is back to her usual self. Finally able to stand up again she shambles to a table where Meshir Bakan has prepared some food.

“Is this…Poisoned too?”

“It is but it won’t affect you anymore. Go eat, you’ll need your strength.”

“How long…Did this hell last?”

“About four months.”

“Four months!?”

“Yep, your body is pretty healthy so it didn’t take as long as I anticipated but you have successfully acquired moderate poison resistance. Now only very strong or large amounts of poison will harm your body.”

“Has Rose gotten better yet?”

“The latest info I have is that she’s healing but far from getting ready to leave.”

“Alright…If I want to shoot for greater poison resistance, how much longer of this would I have to endure?”

“Oh? I’m genuinely impressed you’re even considering it. I might make a true disciple out of you yet. At your current pace, it would take about another five to six months. If you survive that, poison will only be able to harm you but not kill you.”

“Fuck it…Let’s do it, then. If I don’t do it now I won’t ever do it.”

“Hahahahaha, promising indeed! Surprisingly so. But I warn you, once I start you can’t stop in the middle of it.”

“It’s fine. If it’s anything like the months I went through before, it will only feel like a few weeks of torture.”

“In that case rest up while I prepare the poisons.”

“Wait, before you go. What will you teach me after I’m done with this?”

“I’ll teach you how to create, detect and utilize poisons to their best effect and train you how to fight like a Nightswallow.”

“Nightswallow?”

“An Elven elite group of assassins. I won’t have the time to get you anywhere near the real deal but I can get you started.”

“Kekeke, Alright…Sounds good.”

“Laughing in the face of torture…You have potential ‘Duchess’.”
