Tearful Goodbye
Over the next six weeks I get my body back in combat ready shape. During that time I met up with Ser Ulian almost every day. I even met her family and visited her home a few times. We also celebrated Rayla’s nineteenth birthday on March 18th. Sher Aka went to meet with the Dragons more, who ultimately named their organization Thorny Rose and Scarlet and John were both training to be better adventurers.
Today is the 17th of April, 398 Age of Water. The day where we are finally going on adventures again. Currently we’re in the main branch looking at quests.
“What about this one?” Sher Aka asks.
“I’d rather not do another slave related quest.” Rayla answers.
“Then how about this one?” John adds, “It’s about a bandit camp near the coast.”
“Nah, also too dangerous. We need a good quest that suits us and introduces Scarlet to the trade…Like, this one!”
“Hmm a Rattes infestation in a mountain town…I dunno, those things are ferocious and riddled with disease.”
“Yes, but they also probably won’t penetrate Scarlet’s scales and fighting inside a town is not a disadvantage to us because Rose can see through walls.”
“True…Sure let’s take it then, it’s close to a big border town so we can restock there and turn our quest in when we’re done.”
Taking everyones guild cards Rayla goes to the counter and accepts the quest.
As she comes back she says, “Alright, it’s going to take us about three weeks to get there. So, let’s stock up for two weeks and restock half way in Horsetown. Anyone opposed? No? Good.”
We then go out to our wagon and gather our supplies and as our last stop before leaving Old Kroy behind we go to Ser Ulian’s home.
“Hey John, could you hold my mask for a bit?”
“Sure.”
Closing my eyes I transform into my small form and together with Scarlet and Rayla go knock on the door.
Ser Ulian’s parents open the door with a slightly painful expression, “Ser Ulian! Your friend’s here to say goodbye,” her father says.
“No!”
“Come on love, don’t you want to say goodbye?” Her mom asks.
“No! If I don’t say goodbye, Rose can’t leave. She promised she’d say goodbye before leaving so she can’t leave if I don’t come.”
“But think about it, love. If you avoid her just so she can’t say goodbye you will never see her again. But if you say goodbye now you might see each other again in the future.”
“...”
“I guess that’s true…”
Ser Ulian then comes into view, she seems to have cried, “Do you really have to go, Rose?”
“Yeah…But if you want them I can write you letters…”
“Of course I want them!”
“I…sniff I’ll send you plenty then…”
“Yeah…sniff You…You’d better…”
“I…I’ll miss you Ser Ulian! Sob”
“I’ll miss you too, dummy!”
Storming into each other's arms we begin crying and hugging each other.
“You sob you better stay safe okay?”
“Yeah sob you too. Make sure Mr. Whiskers always gets enough milk, okay?”
“Of course! When…When will we see each other again?”
“I…I don’t know. But I promise whenever we come to Old Kroy I’ll visit you! And when we find a home to settle down in I’ll invite you over!”
“I’ll definitely come!”
“Even if it’s really far away?”
“Yes, I’ll come visit no matter what!”
“Okay…I look forward to it.” I say with a smile.
“Yeah, me too.” Ser Ulian answers with a smile. “Oh! Before I forget, I have something for you!”
Ser Ulian vanishes for a few seconds inside then comes back with a hand mirror and puts something in my hair, “I’ve got us matching barrettes, that way we’ll never forget each other! Look, yours is a blue flax the same color as my hair and mine is a pink rose the same as your hair and name. I even drew some black lines on it to better match you.”
“I-It’s beautiful…Thank you so much.”
“Are you ready to go now, Rose?” Scarlet asks.
“No…But let’s go anyway.”
Giving her one last hug I say, “Goodbye, Ser Ulian.”
“Goodbye, Rose…Let’s meet again soon.”
