Chapter 133: The Devil’s Power Over His Slave
The heavy oak doors clicked shut behind Damian, leaving the kitchen submerged in a stifling, uneasy quiet.
Victoria stepped closer to the marble counter, her sharp, perceptive eyes sweeping over Anastasia’s drained, pale face. Valerie’s playful grin had completely faded, replaced by genuine concern as she set the morning mail down on the island.
"Anastasia, darling," Victoria said gently, her voice steady but laced with unmistakable curiosity. "What on earth does the Sullivan syndicate want with you? Why would your father be signing corporate agreements with Dante?"
"Is Dante threatening your family’s business?" Valerie asked, leaning forward. "Damian looked like he was ready to burn the capital down."
Ana’s hands trembled against the cold marble. Her throat felt completely blocked, the weight of the humiliating truth threatening to choke her.
How could she explain that her father hadn’t just signed a business deal... he had sold her off as human collateral? How could she tell Damian’s mother and sister that four years ago, their own son had purchased her under the exact same premise?
"It’s... complex corporate litigation," Ana managed to whisper, her voice tight and strained as she forced a frail, polite smile that didn’t reach her eyes. "My father’s companies have been under severe market pressure. Please excuse me."
Before Victoria could reach out a comforting hand, Ana turned on her heel and slipped out of the kitchen.
Her heart hammered violently against her ribs as her bare feet moved swiftly across the polished hardwood floors of the grand hallway and up the sweeping staircase. The terrifying dread inside her was mounting with every step.
If Dante holds a legal claim from my father, Damian has no obligation to protect me anymore. He got his revenge. He can hand me over to avoid an all-out war with the syndicates.
Reaching the second-floor corridor, Ana didn’t hesitate. She pushed past Walter, who was standing guard just outside the mahogany double doors, ignoring his quiet murmur of protest.
She thrust the heavy doors open and stepped into the dim, shadow-draped study.
Damian stood behind the massive mahogany desk, the manila envelope resting beside an open, glowing laptop. He had pulled on a loose black dress shirt, left entirely unbuttoned over the thick bandages wrapping his chest and shoulder.
He looked up, his obsidian eyes narrowing into sharp, icy slits at her sudden intrusion.
"Walter," Damian rasped, his voice cutting like a razor. "Close the door."
Walter quietly pulled the double doors shut from the outside, leaving them in absolute solitude.
Ana stood her ground in the center of the Persian rug, her hands clenched into tight fists at her sides, her dark eyes shining with raw, suffocating panic.
"Are you going to give me to him?"
She demanded, her voice breaking slightly despite her desperate effort to sound steady.
"My father signed the succession rights over. The Vance board ratified it. If Dante has the legal authority to claim my grandfather’s trust, keeping me here only puts your estate in the crosshairs of a war you don’t need to fight."
Damian didn’t answer immediately. He slowly rounded the corner of the desk, his bare feet making no sound as he closed the distance between them with slow, predatory intent.
The dark, suffocating intensity of his presence filled the entire room, forcing the air straight out of Ana’s lungs.
"Is that what you think this is, Anastasia?" Damian murmured, his deep tone dropping to a dangerous, lethal register as he stepped directly into her personal space, towering over her. "You think I spent four years holding your leash just to toss you to a scavenger the second your pathetic father opens his hand?"
Before Ana could take a step back, Damian’s uninjured right hand shot out, his fingers wrapping firmly around the nape of her neck, tilting her head up with bruising, uncompromising force.
He leaned down until his dark, blazing eyes bored straight into hers, his breath hot and ragged against her parted lips.
"Listen to me very carefully, little doll," Damian growled, his knuckles flexing against the soft skin of her jaw. "Your father sold you to me four years ago for one hundred million dollars. The moment that wire cleared, he signed away every single legal, biological, and ancestral right he ever held over your breath."
His thumb pressed hard beneath her chin, anchoring her completely to his will.
"You are my collateral. My possession. Dante Sullivan can wave every fraudulent contract in the underworld... He will rot in the ground before he ever lays a single finger on what belongs to me."
Ana’s breath caught in her throat, the suffocating heat of his grip burning against the back of her neck.
The ruthless, absolute certainty in his voice did nothing to soothe the raw ache tearing through her ribs.
She wasn’t relieved; she was shattered by the cold reality that to the men in her life, she was nothing more than an asset on an auction block... traded by her father, possessed by Damian, and hunted by Dante.
A single, hot tear broke past her defenses, slipping silently down her pale cheek. Then another followed, her composed facade finally fracturing under the crushing weight of her family’s endless betrayal.
Damian’s jaw tightened as the tear tracked across her skin, brushing against his thumb.
There was no gentle comfort in his face, no tenderness in his dark, unyielding eyes. Damian Sterling did not understand gentleness, nor did he recognize the strange, violent twist in his chest for what it truly was.
To him, her tears were not an invitation for sympathy, but a frustrating crack in the resilience of a prize he refused to see broken by anyone else.
Without loosening his grip, he dragged her toward the desk, his sheer physical momentum forcing her back until the backs of her thighs hit the edge of the heavy wood.
He reached over with his other hand, spinning the glowing laptop toward her, tapping a rapid command on the mechanical keys.
"Stop crying over parasites, Anastasia," Damian commanded, his baritone harsh, low, and grating with raw impatience. "Look at the screen."
Ana blinked through blurred vision, forced to look down at the illuminated display.
An archived, encrypted contract filled the monitor... the original master agreement from four years ago, stamped with her father’s signature and the Sterling seal.
Damian leaned over her, his broad, bandaged chest pressing her firmly against the desk, his uninjured arm boxing her in as his long finger tapped a highlighted clause in bold, ironclad legal script.
"Read subsection nine," Damian rasped, his voice cold and cutting right beside her ear. "The moment your father accepted my hundred million dollars to cover his embezzlement, he signed an unconditional, perpetual forfeiture clause. He signed away every proxy vote, every guardianship claim, and every ancestral succession right over you in perpetuity."
Ana’s breath hitched as she read the brutal, unyielding legal terms.
"Do you understand what that means?" Damian sneered, a dark, vicious smirk pulling at the corner of his lips. "Your pathetic father didn’t just sell you out to save his skin... he committed federal fraud against the Sullivan syndicate. He sold Dante an asset that had already been permanently liquidated and transferred to me, Damian Sterling four years ago."
The realization hit Ana like a cold wave. The succession contract Dante held was completely void, a worthless piece of paper that gave Dante zero legal authority.
Damian’s fingers tightened in her dark hair, tilting her head back once more so she was forced to look directly into the predatory blackness of his eyes.
"You don’t get to run, and you don’t get to panic," Damian whispered, his dark voice dripping with chilling, unyielding ownership. "Dante walked straight into a legal slaughterhouse, and your father just signed his own execution warrant. You belong in this house, under my roof, until I decide otherwise."
