Chapter 141: Gold-inlaid Jade
"Not at all," Chu Feng said. "I just think, if you keep slicing away at it like that, you’ll be here all day. Why not just get it over with and save some time?"
"What do you mean? Do you think there’s no jade in this?" Old Jiang asked, frowning at Chu Feng.
Chu Feng shook his head.
"You can get some out, but it’s very little. Practically nothing," Chu Feng said.
"Huh? Brother Chu, are you serious about that?" Old Jiang asked urgently.
"Based on your past experience, it’s true that this kind of stone is very likely to yield jade, with a high probability," Chu Feng said. "But in reality, this particular raw stone has barely any jade in it at all."
Seeing Chu Feng dare to say such a thing, Zhao Liu became extremely anxious.
"Brother Chu, don’t just say whatever comes to mind," Zhao Liu said urgently.
"Sixth Master, I’m just telling the truth," Chu Feng said, shrugging helplessly.
"Brother Chu, are you really serious?" After hearing Chu Feng’s words, Old Jiang was starting to lose his confidence.
"Of course," Chu Feng said, nodding confidently.
"In that case, why don’t we make a bet? Brother Chu, you may not know me well, but I also enjoy a good gamble. I heard you created quite a legend on the high seas that night," Old Jiang said with a smile.
"Oh? Alright. How do you want to bet?" Chu Feng said.
"Good! Brother Chu, you’re so straightforward. I like your personality. It’s simple: if you lose, you have to play cards with me. How about it?" Old Jiang said.
"No problem. But what if you lose?" Chu Feng asked with a smile.
"Brother Chu, you name it," Old Jiang said.
"How about this: Boss Jiang, you’re a giant in the jewelry industry. If you lose, you have to make five pieces of Golden Jade Artifacts for my wife," Chu Feng said.
Hearing Chu Feng’s request, Old Jiang immediately burst out laughing. He said heartily, "Brother Chu, forget five pieces—I’d do fifty! It’s just gold-inlaid jade."
’To him, five pieces of gold-inlaid jade were nothing. He could just grab a few items from his store.’
"I don’t want any more, just five. They’re for my wife," Chu Feng said with a smile.
"Alright then. Master Old Mo, just cut it like he said," Old Jiang instructed the craftsman.
"Boss Jiang, are you serious? This thing is worth fifty million," Old Mo asked, finding it a bit hard to believe.
"It’s fine. Just cut it. I won’t blame you even if you ruin it," Old Jiang said.
"Alright, then I’m cutting," Old Mo nodded, and then had his son make the cut.
His son wasn’t one to dawdle. As soon as he heard the command, he got right to it.
As the machine ROARED to life, the saw blade sliced straight down in the blink of an eye.
A few minutes later, the raw stone was split in two.
Then, everyone’s gaze was drawn over, fixed intently on the separated halves of the stone.
Upon seeing the inside of the stone, many people gasped.
"Holy crap."
When Old Jiang himself saw the result, he completely lost his composure.
Because after the raw stone was cut open, there was indeed no jade to be seen.
His face was a mask of astonishment, his eyes filled with disbelief.
In truth, the entire raw stone only had a thin layer of glass-type jadeite on its surface. The value of that little bit of jade didn’t even amount to a tenth of the fifty million paid.
"Fucking incredible, Brother Chu! You actually guessed it right. You’re amazing! What bullshit experts? More like professional scammers," Old Jiang said, giving Chu Feng a thumbs-up, his face full of admiration.
In fact, the most shocked of all was Zhao Liu. If Old Jiang hadn’t called him, he would have gritted his teeth and bought the stone himself.
Chu Feng had already told him not to bid on it, but he had been defiant, wanting to take a gamble.
Now, the result was obvious. He had been wrong, and Chu Feng had been right.
"It was just a lucky guess," Chu Feng said with a smile. "But Boss Jiang, you’ve taken quite a loss this time. Don’t forget the five pieces of gold-inlaid jade for my wife."
"Incredible. Truly incredible," Old Jiang said. "When Sixth Master told me you were formidable, I honestly had my doubts. But now, you’ve really opened my eyes."
Although losing fifty million on this stung a little, for someone of his net worth, it was ultimately nothing.
"It was really just a wild guess. I just had a feeling this stone didn’t have any jade in it," Chu Feng said.
"Brother Chu, let me get your number. After the auction is over, I’ll arrange something for us. We can go relax a bit." Old Jiang pulled out his phone and asked Chu Feng for his contact information.
Chu Feng didn’t refuse, and they exchanged contact information.
’After all, Old Jiang seemed to be a decent person, at least not too treacherous. For now, he was someone worth getting along with.’
’If it had been anyone else, they would have certainly pushed all the blame onto him when the stone turned out to be empty.’
"I’ll pass on relaxing. I have to go home with my wife tonight," Chu Feng said, glancing at Su Miaoke.
’He knew, of course, what Old Jiang meant by "relaxing."’
"Hahaha! Brother Chu, you really respect your wife! We’re just grabbing a late-night snack. Bring your wife along with you," Old Jiang said with a laugh.
Some of the people around who knew Old Jiang were surprised.
They couldn’t believe that this young man had managed to get Old Jiang to invite him twice in a row. It was rare enough for Old Jiang to invite someone even once, let alone twice. This was practically unheard of.
"Alright," Chu Feng said with a nod.
"Great. Let’s go now and find a place to eat," Old Jiang said.
"Ah, I was hoping to get some good jade at this auction to be a showpiece for my business, but I fell flat on my face with the very first try," Old Jiang said with a sigh.
Hearing this, Zhao Liu laughed. "Are you that desperate for jade right now? Look how anxious you are."
"I am! Extremely desperate! Why else do you think I’m in such a hurry?" Old Jiang said, his face a mask of worry.
"I have a piece at home that I don’t use much. I don’t really care for it anyway. It’s yours," Zhao Liu said.
"Is it the one you always toss in the corner? That’s a fine piece of jade! How can you not see it? Sixth Master, the way you talk is just infuriating. I won’t take advantage of you. I’ll give you seventy million for it, as if I were buying it properly," Old Jiang said.
"It’s no fun between us if we start talking about money. It’s just a piece of stone," Zhao Liu said with a smile.
Was he short on cash? Obviously not.
"Alright, let’s hurry up and get something to eat. By the time we’re done, the auction should be about to start," Old Jiang said to the group with a smile.
Losing fifty million in an instant was, to him, like dropping fifty cents. It didn’t matter in the slightest, and he wouldn’t give it a second thought.
