Chapter 54: Parents Come to Beihai
"That guy is dead," Chu Feng said.
"Dead? Who killed him? Don’t tell me you did it!" Chu Yuntian’s eyes flew open when he heard the news, and he demanded.
"No, he was struck by lightning. You could say heaven has finally delivered its judgment," Chu Feng said.
"You could say that. That bastard should have died long ago. He committed so many sins. The Qing Gang behind him will face the same fate sooner or later," Chu Yuntian said coldly.
"You know about the Qing Gang?" Chu Feng’s curiosity grew.
"How could I not? Those animals are the ones who crippled my leg. They always thought I was part of the Xixiang Chu Family, so they kept targeting me. What they didn’t know is that we were basically abandoned by the Chu Family," Chu Yuntian said.
"I understand. Okay, let’s leave it at that for now. When you’re ready to leave, remember to tell me. Miaoke and I will come pick you up," Chu Feng said.
"Alright. But you must remember, don’t get involved with any of those Martial Arts Clans unless you have to. It’ll be a lot of trouble!" Chu Yuntian solemnly warned Chu Feng.
"Got it. Don’t worry, Dad. I’m such an honest guy, how could I possibly go looking for trouble with them?" Chu Feng said.
But in reality, Chu Feng felt not a shred of fear. ’If they dare to provoke me,’ he thought, ’I’ll make them regret it.’
"Okay, let’s do that. Your mom and I will come over in five or six days at the most," Chu Yuntian said.
After he hung up, Su Miaoke had already leaned over, asking curiously, "So, is it true?"
Chu Feng nodded.
"Our branch of the family does belong to the Xixiang Chu Family, but we left back in my grandfather’s time and have been living in Fuhe Village ever since. So strictly speaking, we can’t really be considered part of the Xixiang Chu Family," Chu Feng said.
"That’s okay. Whether you are or not, you’re still my husband," Su Miaoke said.
"Even though we’re a few generations removed from the Xixiang Chu Family, my dad still has the Chu Family’s Cultivation Technique. He’s going to bring it for me when they visit," Chu Feng said.
In truth, the reason Chu Yuntian had so readily told Chu Feng all this was that he himself had suffered too much in the past. If he had known Martial Arts, his leg might not have been crippled.
Therefore, he wanted Chu Feng to have the means to protect himself.
"Isn’t that great?" Su Miaoke said.
"You can learn it with me then," Chu Feng said.
"Hmph. Aren’t you afraid I’ll learn it and then teach you a lesson?" Su Miaoke said.
In fact, she was fascinated by the Martial Dao, especially after seeing Zhao Qinghan use her Sword Skill. She had been incredibly envious.
"But learning Martial Arts isn’t something that can be done overnight. Those people train from a young age, and the process is probably very painful," Chu Feng said.
"I’m prepared for that. It’s not like we have anything else to do. We can practice in our free time," Su Miaoke said.
"When are you going to tell me your secrets?" Su Miaoke asked.
"When the time is right, I’ll tell you," Chu Feng said.
Su Miaoke nodded. Since Chu Feng didn’t want to talk about it, she wouldn’t press him further.
"When our parents get here, remember to tell me, okay?" Su Miaoke reminded him, afraid he might forget.
"Mhm, don’t worry. When they arrive, I have to bring you along anyway," Chu Feng said.
"I’m going to head to work then." After saying this, Chu Feng left Su Miaoke’s office.
As Chu Feng came out of Su Miaoke’s office, a few people greeted him.
The truth was, the news about Su Miaoke and Chu Feng had spread long ago. Everyone knew Chu Feng was Su Miaoke’s husband.
"Hey, have you guys noticed? President Su’s husband is actually pretty handsome. He looks really solid."
"Could our President Su have chosen him if he wasn’t in good shape? Besides, don’t look down on him. Maybe President Su’s husband has a powerful background."
"A powerful background? I doubt it. He’s probably a freeloader. Why else would he be a security guard?"
"Oh, come on, stop being so salty. No matter how jealous you are, he’s still President Su’s husband. It’s not like any of you losers have a chance," a female colleague stepped up and glared at the bitter-sounding male colleagues.
The group continued to whisper amongst themselves. This piece of gossip would be enough to keep them talking for a good long while.
Chu Feng heard all of this but acted as if he hadn’t. He didn’t care.
Arriving at the security booth by the entrance, he found Liu Yong on duty. Seeing Chu Feng, Liu Yong immediately pulled out a chair and offered him a cigarette.
"What made you decide to come to work today?" Liu Yong asked.
"Nothing to do. I was bored, so I thought I’d come hang out," Chu Feng said, taking the cigarette and lighting it.
Liu Yong nodded and said, "You’re still the more mature one. Not like Xiao Liu, who just thinks about how to ’lie flat’ all day. Don’t take what he said the other day seriously. Just think of it as him farting."
"Brother Liu, don’t worry. I’m not going to get angry over a kid," Chu Feng said with a smile.
Liu Yong nodded, laughed, and breathed an inward sigh of relief.
The two of them chatted idly for a while. Soon, it was time to get off work, and they went to eat together again.
And so, several days passed like this.
One day, Chu Feng received a call from his parents, who said they were coming to Beihai.
Chu Feng had originally planned to go pick them up himself, but the two elders insisted on him not coming back.
Chu Feng suggested they take a plane, which would be the fastest way—they could arrive in just over an hour.
However, Chu Feng’s parents felt that taking the train was more reliable and safe.
"Honey, now that Dad and Mom are coming to Beihai, let’s not let them go back, okay? Didn’t my mom give you a villa last time? They can live there," Su Miaoke said to Chu Feng in the car.
"Sigh, they’d never agree. They’ve lived in the countryside for so many years. Getting them to stay here for a few days is one thing, but they definitely wouldn’t want to live here permanently."
"My parents are just coming to see us and maybe rush us about our wedding date. Forget it, let’s not worry about them. Let them do as they please."
Chu Feng felt helpless. He had actually thought about this too, but he knew his parents’ personalities and was sure they would never agree.
Arriving at the train station, Chu Feng stood outside waiting.
"Mom!" Chu Feng waved from a distance.
Chu Yuntian and Chu Feng’s mother were absolutely astonished by the sight of the station before them.
It had been a long time since they had left the village and come to a big city.
The city had changed so quickly, so much so that the two elders were left marveling.
"It’s changed. Everything has changed. It’s all developing for the better," Chu Yuntian said with a sigh of wonder.
Because this was a world apart from the Beihai he had known over twenty years ago.
Back then, the station was just a small building, and there weren’t even many tall buildings.
