Chapter 30: Bloody Disaster
"Haunted? Impossible. It’s the twenty-first century," Chu Feng laughed.
Even as he said it, though, his heart suddenly lurched.
He remembered what he’d seen when he arrived that morning: a bloody glow seeping from a cluster of pitch-black clouds above the building.
"You shouldn’t be so quick to dismiss it. Did the captain tell you that you’re working nights because someone resigned?" Xiao Liu whispered.
Chu Feng nodded. "That’s what he said."
"Don’t listen to his crap. That guy fainted from terror last night. They say he saw a ghost, that it hooked his soul right out of him," Xiao Liu said, painting a vivid picture.
His story was enough to give anyone goosebumps.
"Really?" Chu Feng pressed.
"No shit! He dragged me onto the night shift too. Said that since I’m young, I have more vigorous energy, so those ’unclean things’ wouldn’t dare get close. What kind of damn reason is that? If we run into anything tonight, I’m walking out on the spot. They can keep my paycheck," Xiao Liu said, sounding agitated.
"Don’t worry. In any case, I’ll be here on the night shift with you," Chu Feng said reassuringly.
He wasn’t afraid; he just found the whole situation rather suspicious.
At 10:30 PM, Su Miaoke finally pulled up to the company in her Porsche 918.
Xiao Liu had been playing a game on his phone, but when he caught a glimpse of Su Miaoke’s car out of the corner of his eye, he instantly threw his phone down and pulled Chu Feng to his feet.
"Salute!" he yelled, then whispered, "That’s the chairman’s car—oh, wait, the general manager’s now."
Chu Feng nodded. ’Of course I know, she’s my wife,’ he thought. Nevertheless, he followed suit and saluted.
Su Miaoke stopped the car by the security booth, then rolled down her window. Seeing Chu Feng saluting, she couldn’t help but laugh and said, "Chu Feng, come to my office in a bit."
Chu Feng nodded. With that, Su Miaoke drove into the company grounds.
After the car left, Xiao Liu was stunned.
"Holy crap! President Su just smiled at me!" Xiao Liu said, ecstatic.
He completely forgot about what Su Miaoke had just said to Chu Feng.
"You think she might have been smiling at me?" Chu Feng asked, grinning.
Xiao Liu froze for a moment at his words, then shook his head frantically.
"Impossible. President Su always gives us a smile when she comes in or goes out," Xiao Liu said, pursing his lips.
But then, he suddenly remembered what Su Miaoke had said to Chu Feng.
"Wait, did President Su just ask you to go to her office? How do you know her? Are you two connected somehow?" Xiao Liu, ever the gossip, asked with intense curiosity.
Chu Feng shook his head without a word.
Xiao Liu pressed on, "Brother Chu, you aren’t some rich heir, are you? Playing security guard just so you can woo our President Su? Like something straight out of an online drama!"
Chu Feng rolled his eyes at him. "Are you an idiot? If I were some rich heir, would I be stuck here pretending to be a guard? And why would I chase your President Su? That’s nuts. If there’s any chasing to be done, she should be the one chasing me."
Hearing Chu Feng’s words, Xiao Liu burst out laughing and gave him a thumbs-up. "Brother Chu, you’re incredible. I can’t believe you’d even dare to dream something like that!"
Now he was certain that Chu Feng and Su Miaoke probably didn’t have much of a relationship.
But in reality, how could he know that Chu Feng was telling the truth, and that it was indeed Su Miaoke who had pursued him?
The main thing was, Chu Feng wanted to earn some money through his own efforts. It wasn’t right to always be supported by a woman; that would be just pathetic.
"I’m going to head over now," Chu Feng said to Xiao Liu.
"Go on, Brother Chu. When President Su starts chasing after you, don’t forget your little brother!" Xiao Liu couldn’t help but tease.
Arriving at Su Miaoke’s office, Chu Feng gave a polite knock on the door.
"Come in," came Su Miaoke’s voice.
Chu Feng pushed the door open and went in.
Inside the office, besides Su Miaoke, his own father-in-law, Su Linsheng, was also there.
"Dad? You’re here too?" Chu Feng asked, a little surprised. He hadn’t expected to see his father-in-law.
But now that Su Linsheng had taken over the company, it was normal for him to be there.
"Xiao Feng, my boy! I heard from Miaoke that you want to work as a security guard here? That won’t do! I’ll set you up as the general manager of a subsidiary company. A young man like you should be out there getting experience," Su Linsheng said grandly.
Hearing this, Chu Feng quickly refused, "No, no, Dad, I can’t do that. I don’t have any experience, I wouldn’t know how. Being a security guard suits me just fine."
Then, Chu Feng asked, "Dad, have you run into some kind of trouble recently?"
Hearing Chu Feng ask this, Su Linsheng frowned slightly. "How did you know?"
"I noticed the spot between your eyebrows is dark. Plus, this morning I saw the company building shrouded in a dark cloud. It looked like an omen of bloodshed!" Chu Feng said with a grave expression.
"It can’t be... The spot between my eyebrows is dark?" Su Linsheng pulled out a mirror to check his forehead, his face filled with terror.
"I’m almost certain of it. This building is already showing signs of being haunted," Chu Feng said, nodding.
"My dear son-in-law, you’re well-versed in these occult matters? You have no idea... this whole thing has been a nightmare. We’ve been operational for less than a week, and employees are constantly reporting encounters with ’unclean things.’ Last night, a security guard was scared half to death! He’s still in the hospital."
Su Linsheng had a pained look on his face as he spoke, and it was clear the matter was weighing heavily on him.
Hearing this, Su Miaoke was also surprised. "Dad, why didn’t you tell me?"
"This only just happened. I was about to find a master in this field to take a look. My son-in-law, do you have any good ideas?" Su Linsheng asked with a sigh.
"Miaoke, did anything like this happen when the company was under your management?" Chu Feng inquired.
Su Miaoke shook her head without hesitation. "Never."
Chu Feng nodded. "Then someone must have been meddling during this time. Dad, Miaoke, don’t you two worry. I happen to be on the night shift tonight, so I’ll check things out."
"Since when do you know about these things? And you’re working the night shift? Absolutely not!" Su Miaoke stared at Chu Feng, her brows furrowed as she rejected the idea outright.
At the same time, she became even more certain that the old man from the other night had a profound connection to Su Qiye.
"Don’t worry, I’ll be fine," Chu Feng said reassuringly.
He then asked his father-in-law, "Dad, do you have any talisman paper, cinnabar, ink, and brushes here?"
"I’ll have someone go buy them right now." Su Linsheng immediately called his assistant and told him to purchase everything and bring it back as soon as possible.
