My Slime Wife: Training and Pampering Her Makes Me Stronger

Chapter 173: The Energy of the New Dungeons

The morning had begun relatively peacefully.

Too peacefully for Liam’s liking.

Sitting behind his desk, he was once again reviewing the reports that had arrived from different guilds around the world.

S-Rank.

S-Rank.

S-Rank.

And now there were also several reports marked as SS-Rank.

Liam let the report in his hands fall onto the desk.

’This is getting out of control...’

Ever since the first dungeons began to evolve, every new report seemed to be worse than the last.

Some had experienced temporal alterations.

Others had completely changed their structure.

And some had even begun generating creatures that did not exist in any known records.

But there was something that particularly concerned Armstrong.

Three dungeons that were accumulating an abnormal amount of energy.

Liam picked up one of the reports again.

The first was located in a mountainous region.

The second was in the middle of a forest.

And the third...

Liam frowned.

It was beneath a city.

"I don’t like this at all."

"What?"

Liam looked up.

Lydia was standing in the doorway of his office.

"Nothing,"

Liam replied quickly.

"I was just reading some reports."

Lydia walked in and approached the desk.

"Overthinking again?"

"Possibly."

"Then you need a break, honey."

Lydia leaned over the desk and placed both hands in front of him.

"Besides, your wife is here to remind you that life isn’t all about dungeons."

Liam smiled.

"And what should I do?"

"Take me out to eat."

"That sounds like an order."

"It is."

Liam let out a small laugh.

"Alright. We can go get something to eat."

Lydia smiled in satisfaction.

"Perfect. Thank you, honey."

Liam stood up and walked around the desk.

However, just as he was about to leave, a small spark of colorful light appeared above his shoulder.

Poof.

Pix appeared, floating in front of him.

"Liam."

Liam froze.

"What happened?"

Pix looked at Lydia.

Then she looked at Liam.

"I need to talk to you."

Liam immediately understood.

"Lydia, could you wait outside?"

"Secrets again?"

Liam smiled nervously.

"It’ll only be a moment."

Lydia crossed her arms.

"Five minutes."

"Deal."

Lydia left the office and closed the door.

Liam waited a few seconds before speaking.

"What did you discover?"

Pix adjusted her glasses.

"About the dungeons."

"Did you discover something?"

"More or less."

Liam sighed.

"Pix..."

"I’m working on it!"

"I didn’t say anything."

"But you thought it."

Liam shook his head.

"What did you discover?"

Pix stopped joking.

"Dungeons aren’t simply portals that connect this world to other dimensions."

Liam fell silent.

"Then what are they?"

Pix slowly floated around the room.

"They’re connections."

"We already knew that."

"Not exactly."

Pix stopped in front of him.

"A dungeon can connect two points in our world to another dimension. But it can also connect to more than one dimension at the same time."

Liam’s eyes widened.

"More than one?"

"Yes."

"And that means...?"

"That dungeons could be connecting different dimensions to one another."

Liam felt a chill run down his spine.

’So they’re not just simple doors...’

"Are you saying a dungeon could connect our world to multiple dimensions?"

"Correct."

"And the alterations?"

Pix nodded.

"I think they could be a consequence of those connections."

Liam walked toward the window.

Outside, the city continued operating as normal.

People walking.

Vehicles driving by.

Hunters entering and leaving the guild.

Everything seemed normal.

But beneath that normality, something much bigger could be happening.

"And the dungeons that are accumulating energy?"

Pix took a few seconds to answer.

"I think they’re trying to do something."

Liam turned around.

"What?"

"I don’t know."

The answer did little to reassure him.

"Could they be evolving again?"

Pix lowered her gaze slightly.

"It’s possible."

Liam clenched his fists.

"To SSS?"

"I can’t confirm that."

"But you can’t rule it out either."

"Exactly."

Liam remembered Armstrong’s words.

The three dungeons, the accumulating energy, and no one knowing what would happen if an SS-rank dungeon evolved again.

"Can you figure out what’s happening?"

Pix crossed her arms.

"I can try."

"I need you to."

"I will. Don’t worry."

Liam nodded.

"Thanks, Pix."

Pix smiled.

"But I want something in return."

Liam narrowed his eyes.

"What do you want?"

"Food."

"..."

"Lydia’s food."

Liam burst out laughing.

"I knew you’d end up asking for that."

"Your wife’s cooking is delicious!"

"Alright. I’ll save you some."

Pix smiled happily.

"Deal."

At that moment, someone knocked on the door.

"Liam?"

It was Lydia.

Pix immediately disappeared in a small shower of sparkling particles.

"Come in."

Lydia entered.

"Five minutes are up."

Liam looked at the clock.

"Exactly five."

"Then let’s go eat."

Liam smiled.

"Let’s go."

◇◆◇

While Liam and Lydia headed toward the guild cafeteria, the other members of the sixth squad were in the training area.

Jordan was sitting on the floor, eating a bag of chips.

Ray stood in front of him.

"Ready?"

Jordan looked up.

"Always."

Ray extended a hand.

"Then prepare yourself."

His ability activated.

Jordan’s body density suddenly increased.

BOOM!

The floor beneath him cracked slightly.

Jordan’s eyes widened.

"Why did you do that?!"

Ray smiled.

"Because you said you were ready."

"But not for this!"

Carol burst out laughing from the side.

"Come on, Jordan. Get up."

Jordan tried, but couldn’t.

"Ray..."

"Yes?"

"Make me lighter."

"Oh."

Ray reduced his density, and Jordan managed to stand up again.

"That was horrible."

"But it worked."

"I’m never training with you again."

Ray smiled.

"See you tomorrow."

Jordan looked at him with resignation.

"I hate you."

A few meters away, Zayn was running around the room while Nora used her small shadow creatures to point out obstacles.

"Slow down!" Nora shouted.

"I’m trying!"

Zayn sped up.

"That’s not slowing down!"

Zayn tried to stop, but his feet slipped.

"Whoa!"

He ended up crashing into a wall.

Lena covered her mouth to keep herself from laughing.

"That boy is going to destroy the building someday."

Emily shook her head.

"That’s why Liam wants him to learn how to stop."

"I think he needs to learn how to stay still," Carol replied.

Chloe watched from the side.

She had an active connection with Emily.

A small amount of energy passed from one to the other.

"Better?" Chloe asked.

Emily flexed her arm.

"Much better."

"Perfect."

Lydia watched everyone from the entrance.

A smile appeared on her face.

"They already look like a family."

Liam looked at her.

"A family?"

"Yes."

Lydia placed a hand over her belly.

The gesture was small, but Liam noticed it.

"Soon, there will be more of us."

Liam smiled.

"Yeah."

For a moment, he forgot about the dungeons.

He forgot about the dimensions.

He forgot about the threat.

There were only him, Lydia, and the little life that no one else could see yet.

However, a spark appeared beside Liam again.

Pix.

This time, she said nothing.

She simply looked at him.

Liam understood the message.

’We still haven’t found a solution.’

Liam looked away.

He didn’t want Lydia to notice.

"Liam?"

"Yes?"

"Are you alright?"

Liam smiled again.

"Yeah."

He took Lydia’s hand.

"I’m perfectly fine."

But as he looked at his wife, a thought crossed his mind.

’I have to find a solution before it’s too late.’

And far away from there...

Inside a dungeon that no one had managed to fully explore...

An enormous amount of energy began to gather.

The stone walls began to vibrate.

The ground trembled.

And at the center of that darkness, a crack of violet light slowly appeared.

A second crack opened beside it.

Then a third.

As if something...

or someone...

were trying to open a door from the other side.

[Warning]

The dungeon’s energy continued to rise.

And for the first time since the dungeons began to evolve...

An unknown voice pierced through space.

"Finally..."

The crack grew larger.

"...we found the way."
