My Slime Wife: Training and Pampering Her Makes Me Stronger

Chapter 171: Sub-Captain Liam Davis’s Squad

The meeting with the sub-captains had ended a few minutes ago.

Liam left Armstrong’s office accompanied by Lydia.

The conversation had been much longer than he expected, and although they had not made a final decision yet, one thing was clear.

The dungeons were changing, and the problem seemed to be much bigger than anyone had imagined.

Liam walked down the hallway with his hands in his pockets.

"You’re thinking too much, honey."

Lydia’s voice made Liam turn his head.

"How do you know?"

"Because you’ve been staring straight ahead without saying anything for five minutes."

Liam smiled.

"I guess you’re right."

Lydia took his hand.

"You don’t have to solve everything today."

"I know."

Liam gently squeezed her hand.

"But I’m a sub-captain now."

"And you’re still my husband."

Liam looked at her.

"That’s more important."

Lydia smiled.

"Exactly."

They continued walking until they reached the training area.

Liam had asked his entire squad to gather there that morning.

He wanted to take advantage of the fact that they still didn’t have a mission to get to know the members he had barely had a chance to see since recruiting them.

When he opened the door, he found several people waiting.

Jordan was sitting on a bench eating snacks.

Chuck was leaning against a wall while chewing gum.

Emily was stretching her arms.

Carol was talking with Lena.

Zayn was pacing back and forth.

Nora was sitting in a corner with her headphones on.

Ray was staring at his own hands.

And a young woman with light brown hair was sitting beside one of the windows.

Liam walked in.

"Good morning, everyone."

They all turned around.

"Good morning, Boss."

"Good morning, Boss."

Lydia raised a hand.

"Good morning."

"Good morning, Boss Lady."

Lena smiled.

Lydia blushed.

"I already told you that you don’t have to call me that."

"But you’re the Boss’s wife."

Lena shrugged.

"So you’re the Boss Lady."

Chuck burst out laughing.

"Looks like you’ve already accepted your fate."

Lydia sighed.

"A little."

Liam walked toward the center of the room.

"I wanted to gather you all because we still don’t know everyone in the squad very well."

He looked around.

"So we’re going to fix that."

Jordan raised a hand.

"Will there be food?"

Liam looked at him.

"Is that all you care about?"

"It’s an important part."

Carol let out a laugh.

Liam shook his head.

"Let’s begin."

He pointed toward the young man with black hair standing near the door.

"You already know Zayn."

Zayn raised a hand.

"The fastest one in the group."

"And a compulsive gambler."

Liam gave him a serious look.

"Boss..."

Everyone laughed.

Zayn lowered his head.

"I’m trying to change."

"That’s what you said last time."

"This time is different."

Liam didn’t look convinced.

He then pointed toward a young woman sitting in the corner.

"Nora."

The girl looked up.

She had black hair with several purple strands, pale skin, and several dark bracelets around her wrists. She was dressed entirely in black and had a pair of headphones around her neck.

At first glance, she seemed like the person least interested in being there.

"Hi."

Her voice was calm.

"Nora can control small shadow creatures."

Liam pointed toward the floor.

Nora extended a hand, and a small black creature appeared between her fingers.

It looked like a mix between a cat and a small lizard.

The creature looked around before climbing up Nora’s arm.

"She can create several of them."

Another creature appeared.

Then another.

And another.

Within a few seconds, five small shadow creatures were gathered around her.

Lena approached.

"They’re adorable!"

Nora blinked.

"Adorable?"

"Yes."

Lena carefully picked one up.

The creature settled comfortably on her hand.

Nora smiled faintly.

"I suppose they are."

Chuck walked over.

"Can they fight too?"

One of the creatures opened its mouth, revealing tiny teeth.

Chuck stepped back.

"Got it."

Everyone laughed.

Liam pointed toward the next person.

"Ray."

A tall man stepped forward.

He had short dark hair, dark skin, and an athletic build. He wore a gray shirt underneath a black jacket.

"His ability can alter the density of objects he touches."

Ray picked up a small stone from the floor.

He held it between his fingers.

The stone fell.

But when it hit the floor, it produced a much heavier sound than expected.

Jordan raised an eyebrow.

"You made it heavier?"

"You could say that."

Ray touched it again.

The stone became so light that it began floating away with the wind.

"I can do the opposite too."

Liam nodded.

"He can use it both for attacking and modifying objects."

Ray smiled.

"And I’m still learning how much I can alter an object’s density."

"That could be pretty useful."

Ray nodded.

"I hope so."

Finally, Liam looked at the young woman sitting beside the window.

"And she’s Chloe."

The young woman stood up.

She had shoulder-length light brown hair and a calm appearance. She wore comfortable clothes and a small crossbody bag.

"Hi, it’s nice to meet you."

"Chloe is our support specialist."

Chloe extended a hand.

"My ability is called Resonance."

A small light appeared in her palm.

"When I touch someone, I can create a connection between us."

Liam nodded.

"And through that connection..."

"I can transfer some of my energy."

Chloe looked at Jordan.

"I can also do the opposite."

Jordan raised an eyebrow.

"You can give me energy?"

"Yes."

Chloe touched his arm, and a small light traveled through both of their bodies.

Jordan’s eyes widened.

"Whoa."

Chloe pulled her hand away.

"But I have a limit."

Liam intervened.

"Chloe can’t create energy out of thin air. She can only redistribute energy that already exists."

"Exactly."

Chloe pointed at Liam.

"If he’s exhausted and I still have energy left, I can transfer some of it to him."

"And if you have several allies connected..."

"It becomes more difficult."

Chloe smiled.

"The more connections I maintain, the more energy I consume."

Liam nodded.

"That’s why I want you to work primarily as the group’s support."

Chloe gave a small salute.

"Understood, Boss."

Liam looked at everyone.

Now he had all ten members of his squad standing before him.

Lydia.

Jordan.

Carol.

Chuck.

Emily.

Lena.

Zayn.

Nora.

Ray.

Chloe.

All Emerald-rank hunters, each with completely different abilities.

But they had all chosen to follow him.

Liam smiled.

"I want you to know something."

Everyone fell silent.

"We really are the smallest squad among the six sub-captains."

Chuck raised a hand.

"Does that mean we’re special?"

"No, my dear friend."

Liam immediately replied.

"It means we have fewer people."

Everyone laughed.

"But it also means I need to know what each of you can do."

Liam looked at Nora.

"From now on, I want us to train together."

He then looked at Zayn.

"I want Zayn to learn how to work with Nora for reconnaissance."

Zayn nodded.

"Understood."

"Nora can send her creatures into places you wouldn’t be able to enter."

Nora nodded.

"Sounds good to me."

Liam looked at Ray.

"Ray and Jordan can work together."

Jordan raised an eyebrow.

"Why?"

"Your body can become extremely dense."

Ray smiled.

"And I can increase your density even further."

Jordan’s eyes widened.

"That sounds incredible."

Chuck cut in.

"It also sounds like something that could break the floor."

Liam ignored him.

"Emily, Carol, and Lena can work as the offensive team."

The three of them nodded.

"And Chloe will be responsible for keeping them energized when necessary."

Finally, he looked at Lydia.

"And Lydia..."

She looked at him.

"Me?"

"Your job is not to accidentally consume your teammates."

Lydia puffed out her cheeks.

"I already said it was an accident!"

Liam let out a small laugh.

"I know."

But his smile faded slightly when he remembered his conversation with Pix.

’I have to find a way to fix this.’

Lydia watched him.

"What’s wrong?"

"Nothing."

Liam smiled again.

"I’m just thinking about our next training session."

Lydia nodded.

"Then we’ll train together."

At that moment, Liam’s phone vibrated.

He pulled it out of his pocket.

He had received a message from Armstrong.

[Sub-Captains’ Meeting at 15:00.]

Liam sighed.

"I guess the peace didn’t last long."

Chuck approached him.

"What happened, Boss?"

"Sub-captains’ meeting."

Lena crossed her arms.

"Again?"

"Yes."

Jordan sat back down.

"Does that mean I can keep eating?"

Liam shook his head.

"Training."

Jordan’s shoulders dropped.

"How cruel."

Everyone started laughing.

Liam looked at his squad.

This time, he felt like he truly had a team.

Not just hunters under his command.

A group of people he could count on.

However, as they headed toward the training area, Liam couldn’t help but remember Armstrong’s words.

Three dungeons were already accumulating energy.

And if those dungeons really could evolve again...

Today’s training could be much more important than any of them imagined.
