My Slime Wife: Training and Pampering Her Makes Me Stronger

Chapter 106: The True Enemy of the First Trial

The enormous black wolf lunged directly at Liam and Lydia.

Its jaws opened, revealing a row of sharp fangs as it crossed the distance between them in an instant.

Liam’s eyes widened.

"Move!"

His body reacted before he could even think.

He threw himself to the side while the slime covering his shoulder stretched outward.

Lydia’s body split apart.

One became two.

Then three.

And finally, six small green slimes scattered in different directions as the wolf’s claws struck the spot where Liam had been a second earlier.

Liam rolled several meters and quickly got back on his feet.

’’That thing is fast!’’

The wolf turned its head toward him.

Its yellow eyes met Liam’s.

Then it disappeared.

Liam froze.

"What...?"

A shadow appeared behind him.

"Lydia!"

One of the six slimes stretched upward, forming a thick wall behind Liam.

[Harden]

BOOM!

The wolf crashed into it.

The slime absorbed part of the impact and stretched several meters before returning to its original shape.

Liam immediately raised his pistol.

He fired.

BANG!

The bullet tore through empty air.

The wolf had already moved.

One of Lydia’s bodies stretched across the floor while another climbed up one of the translucent walls.

[Lydia: Behind you, darling.]

Liam turned around.

The wolf was already there.

He ducked.

The creature’s claws passed over his head.

Liam fired.

BANG!

He missed again.

The wolf landed behind him and immediately backed away.

Liam watched it.

’’Why didn’t it attack?’’

It had had the perfect opportunity.

The wolf could have bitten his neck.

Instead, it had backed away.

He didn’t have time to think about it too much.

The wolf charged again.

This time, Lydia reacted first.

Three of her bodies stretched in front of the creature, forming long tentacles.

The wolf jumped over them.

Another slime attacked from the side.

The creature twisted in midair and dodged it.

Liam fired.

BANG!

He missed again.

The wolf landed, turned around, and then...

It wagged its tail.

Liam blinked.

’’Did it just...?’’

The wolf crouched down.

It looked ready to attack.

But instead of doing so, it simply waited.

Its eyes were fixed on Liam, as if it were waiting for him to make the next move.

Liam lowered his pistol slightly.

The wolf growled and lunged again.

"Alright!"

Liam raised his weapon.

The creature jumped.

Lydia’s six bodies surrounded Liam from different directions, spreading throughout the entire area.

[Lydia: Left.]

Liam moved.

[Lydia: Right.]

He ducked.

[Lydia: Above.]

Liam looked up.

The wolf was falling directly toward him.

Liam rolled to the side.

The creature landed.

But once again... it didn’t attack. It simply watched him.

Liam slowly stood up.

His breathing was becoming heavier.

’Something is wrong.’

The wolf had had too many opportunities to finish him off.

During the first attack, it could have bitten him.

During the second, it could have attacked while Liam was distracted by Lydia.

And now...

It had jumped directly at him, but stopped.

It was waiting.

As if it were playing.

Liam felt a small piece fall into place inside his mind.

’Playing...’

Then Liam began putting the pieces together.

The little pixie and her mischievous smile.

Illusions.

Animals.

Confetti.

A fake eagle.

Those ridiculous mice.

And the same feeling he had experienced throughout the entire encounter.

The wolf growled again.

Liam locked his gaze onto its yellow eyes.

"You’ve had plenty of opportunities to kill us."

The wolf remained motionless.

Liam slowly lowered his pistol.

"You don’t want to kill us."

One of Lydia’s bodies moved beside him.

[Lydia: Darling?]

He ignored the message for a moment.

His eyes remained fixed on the wolf.

"You want us to react."

The wolf tilted its head.

Liam’s heart skipped a beat.

’’That’s it.’’

The little pixie hadn’t attacked them either. She had simply watched.

She had created situations to make them react.

She had laughed every time they tried to fight her illusions.

And now...

This wolf was doing exactly the same thing.

Liam slowly drew a breath.

"You’re not a wolf."

The creature’s ears twitched.

Liam’s eyes widened.

"You’re her."

Then...

POP!

The wolf exploded into a shower of confetti.

Liam stared.

Pieces of colored paper floated through the air.

A shower of tiny blue and black particles appeared afterward.

And in the middle of it all...

The little pixie reappeared.

She was laughing so hard that she had to hold her stomach.

"HAHAHAHA!"

Liam stared at her.

"You..."

The pixie wiped a small tear from the corner of her eye.

"That was great!"

Lydia gathered her six bodies around Liam.

[Lydia: I’m starting to hate this pixie.]

The little creature couldn’t hear her.

She simply floated in front of Liam with a huge smile.

"Congratulations!"

Liam pointed his pistol at her.

"You’ve been playing with our minds this whole time."

"Of course!"

The pixie spun around in the air.

"You guys were way too serious!"

She snapped her fingers, and a small fake mouse appeared next to Liam’s foot.

He immediately kicked it.

The creature exploded into tiny sparkles.

The pixie laughed again.

Liam sighed.

"You’re insufferable."

"Thank you!"

"That wasn’t a compliment."

"I know."

Lydia sent another message.

[Lydia: Can we shoot her now?]

Liam almost laughed.

"Yes."

The pixie stopped smiling.

"But..."

Her expression changed.

"This isn’t over yet."

The confetti surrounding her disappeared.

The playful atmosphere disappeared with it.

The pixie looked directly at Liam.

"Figuring out the illusion was only the first part."

Liam tightened his grip on his pistol.

"Then what’s the second?"

The pixie smiled.

"Now..."

She disappeared.

"...we play for real."

Liam’s eyes widened.

A force struck his body from the side.

He was sent flying several meters.

"Liam!"

He hit the ground, the impact knocking the air from his lungs.

Before he could get up, a shadow passed over him.

One of Lydia’s bodies moved in front of him.

BOOM!

The slime was sent flying.

Liam rolled to the side.

"She’s too fast!"

Lydia’s six bodies began moving simultaneously.

They spread throughout the entire area.

One remained beside Liam.

Two moved toward the walls.

Another stretched across the floor.

The remaining two climbed upward.

Thanks to the connection between them, she could coordinate her movements with his.

[Lydia: She’s moving.]

"Where?"

[Lydia: Behind you.]

Liam turned.

Nothing.

Then...

[Lydia: Left!]

Liam fired.

BANG!

The bullet struck the floor.

The pixie appeared for less than a second before disappearing again.

Her laughter echoed through the area.

"You can’t catch me!"

Liam gritted his teeth.

’’She’s too fast.’’

He couldn’t keep up with her.

Every time he aimed, she changed direction.

Every time Lydia tried to catch her, the pixie slipped between the tentacles.

Lydia attacked from six directions.

The pixie appeared above one.

Then above another.

Then behind Liam.

And finally between two of the slime bodies.

She moved like a flash of blue and black.

Liam fired again and missed.

He fired once more, but missed again.

He lowered his weapon.

’’Stop.’’

Shooting randomly wouldn’t work.

He had to understand how she moved.

"Darling."

[Lydia: Yes.]

"Don’t try to catch her."

[Lydia: What?]

"Just watch her."

All six of Lydia’s bodies stopped attacking.

Instead, they spread out even farther.

The pixie appeared.

She looked at one of the slimes.

And smiled.

She disappeared.

Liam followed her movement.

’’Where are you going?’’

One of Lydia’s bodies moved toward an empty section of the floor.

The pixie appeared exactly there.

Liam’s eyes widened.

"I found you!"

He fired.

The pixie disappeared just before the bullet could hit her.

She reappeared above Liam.

Liam ducked.

A small hand grazed his hair.

The pixie laughed again.

"Almost!"

Liam smiled.

"That’s all I needed."

The pixie stopped.

"What?"

Liam looked at Lydia’s six bodies.

They were no longer moving randomly. They were watching.

The pixie moved again.

One of the bodies reacted, then another.

Liam followed the sequence.

’Every time one of Lydia’s bodies gets close, she changes direction.’

It wasn’t random. She was avoiding the slimes.

And since there were six bodies...

They could force her to move wherever they wanted.

"Lydia."

[Lydia: I’m ready.]

"We’re going to corner her."
