My Slime Wife: Training and Pampering Her Makes Me Stronger

Chapter 104: The Trial Of Strength[2]

Liam and Lydia stood in front of one of the testing areas, watching the young man in the center closely.

Archie Young was completely motionless.

The sensors connected to his temples, chest, arms, and legs emitted small flashes as they analyzed each of his characteristics.

In front of him, the creature generated by the simulator remained equally motionless.

Well...

Not exactly still.

It was slowly approaching, one step at a time.

Liam narrowed his eyes.

’What kind of creature is that?’

From his position, he could see it better.

It was enormous.

It was roughly twice Archie’s size and had an extremely muscular body. Its arms were thick, its legs looked capable of knocking down a tree with a single blow, and its entire body was covered in thick brown fur.

However, something didn’t quite fit.

Its face.

It had an almost gentle expression.

Its eyes were small and serene.

It didn’t look like a bloodthirsty beast.

It looked...

Like a giant teddy bear.

Lydia tilted her head slightly.

"That creature looks friendly."

Liam slowly nodded.

"Yeah."

Then he looked at Archie.

"But I still don’t understand why it isn’t attacking him."

Archie didn’t seem to understand what was happening either.

The young man waited as the bear approached.

"Come on..."

Archie waved a hand.

"Attack me."

The bear kept walking.

Archie frowned.

"What are you waiting for?"

The creature continued approaching.

"Come on!"

Archie was starting to lose his patience.

"Attack me, you damn bear!"

Some of the applicants standing nearby began laughing.

Lydia covered her mouth with one hand to hide her smile.

Liam also had to make an effort not to laugh.

Archie looked increasingly irritated.

"What kind of enemy are you?!"

The bear finally reached him.

It was only a few inches away.

Archie clenched his fists.

"That’s it..."

The enormous bear slowly raised both arms.

Archie’s eyes widened.

’Finally.’

He braced himself for the blow.

But then...

The bear hugged him.

It simply hugged him.

Its enormous arms wrapped around Archie’s body.

The young man became completely motionless.

And then the laughter began.

"What the hell?!"

Archie tried to break free.

The bear didn’t seem to have any intention of hurting him.

It simply held him there.

Its fur felt incredibly soft.

Archie stopped struggling for a moment.

He could feel the warmth of the creature’s body.

Its calm breathing.

The gentle movement of its arms.

Little by little, his shoulders began to relax.

His eyelids grew heavy.

"What...?"

Archie shook his head.

"No."

He tried to regain his focus.

But the bear continued hugging him.

"Let me go!"

Nothing.

"Let me go!"

The bear gently rested its head against the young man’s.

Archie gritted his teeth.

"Damn..."

His hand reached toward his waist and pulled out a small knife.

Without thinking twice, he plunged it into the creature’s neck.

The bear finally let him go.

Archie fell forward and breathed heavily.

"Finally!"

The bear stepped back, and a small amount of energy began to course through its body.

Archie stared at the creature in frustration.

"I can’t use my Awakening on you!"

He tightened his grip on the knife.

The bear slowly fell.

Archie jumped on top of it.

"Then at least I’ll finish you off!"

The creature disappeared.

Archie was left kneeling on the empty floor.

A beep sounded.

BEEP.

The test was over for the young man.

Archie remained motionless for a few seconds.

Then he stood up.

"Was that all?"

One of the assistants approached him.

"Your test is over."

Archie put away his knife and began removing the sensors.

"How boring."

Liam watched him leave.

’Temperamental.’

He remembered Wayne’s words from the previous day.

The sub-captain had used that exact word to describe him.

And after watching him in action...

Liam had to admit that it seemed quite accurate.

Archie left the area while still complaining.

"I don’t understand what kind of test that was."

Lydia gently took Liam’s hand.

"Darling."

Liam looked at her.

"Yes?"

"It’s our turn now."

Liam looked inside the testing area.

The assistants were already preparing the sensors.

He took a deep breath.

"Then let’s go."

The two of them walked forward.

As they approached, one of the assistants raised a hand.

"Excuse me."

Liam stopped.

"Yes?"

"You can’t enter as a pair."

Liam looked at Lydia.

Then he looked back at the assistant.

"Well..."

He pointed at his wife.

"She’s part of my Awakening."

The assistant blinked.

"What?"

Liam smiled.

"It’s complicated."

Lydia let out a small laugh.

"I suppose you could put it that way."

The assistant looked at his partner, and the two exchanged a glance.

Then they began laughing.

"Alright."

Liam raised an eyebrow.

"Alright?"

"If she’s part of your Awakening, then technically it’s fine."

Liam nodded.

"That’s exactly what I said."

Lydia changed forms.

Her body slowly began to lose its human appearance.

Her skin transformed into a green gelatinous mass.

Her arms disappeared.

Her legs fused together.

Within seconds, a small mass of slime remained on the floor.

Liam carefully picked her up.

Lydia jumped onto his shoulder.

"Ready."

Liam looked toward the assistants.

"Is this alright?"

One of them scratched his head.

"I suppose so."

The other burst out laughing.

"This is a first."

Lydia shifted slightly on Liam’s shoulder.

[Lydia: Are they laughing at me?]

"Are you laughing at my wife?"

"No, no."

The assistant raised both hands.

"It’s just that we’ve never seen anything like this before."

Liam smiled.

"Believe me, we weren’t expecting to end up doing this either."

The assistants began attaching the sensors.

One to his right temple.

Another to his left.

Two on his chest.

Several on his arms.

His legs.

His back.

Each sensor adhered to his body using a small suction cup.

Liam remained still as the devices began emitting flashes.

BEEP.

BEEP.

BEEP.

Lydia watched everything from his shoulder.

[Lydia: Are you nervous?]

"A little."

[Lydia: Me too.]

Liam smiled.

"But I’m curious."

Liam looked toward the center of the testing area.

There was nothing there.

Yet.

The machine began to activate.

A vibration spread through the floor.

VRRRRRRRMMMM...

Liam felt a shiver run down his spine.

’What will the system consider a suitable enemy for me?’

He had faced all kinds of creatures.

Even a queen of carnivorous plants.

But this was different.

The simulator was going to analyze his Awakening.

And then it would create a creature specifically designed to counter it.

Lydia shifted slightly on his shoulder.

[Lydia: Darling.]

"Yes?"

[Lydia: I think it’s starting.]

Liam looked up.

Energy began gathering in front of them.

A white light appeared in the center of the space.

Liam took a step back.

The light expanded.

The translucent walls of the testing area began to glow.

The applicants waiting behind them started moving closer to get a better look.

Even Archie, who was only a few meters away, turned his head.

Liam felt his heart begin to beat faster.

Finally, the light began to take shape.

First, a shadow appeared.

Then a silhouette.

Then its limbs began to form.

Lydia remained completely still.

Liam narrowed his eyes.

"What the hell...?"
