Another crisp snap echoed as the maid puppet's head followed in the butler's footsteps, its body convulsing before going limp.
Clutching his abdomen, Lin Guang staggered back two steps, leaning against the large tree. Blood seeped through his fingers, and a searing pain radiated from his stomach and organs—though it seemed they weren't fully cooked yet. At least he could still feel pain, which meant there was still hope.
The white light gradually receded, and his clothes returned to his body, quickly staining red with blood.
This meant that only now did the transformation process truly seem to have stalled.
Should he feel relieved?

Lin Guang's senses, sharpened to the extreme, caught movement from his side—the faint sound of something hard crushing dry leaves beneath its weight.
He swiftly turned his head.
From the thick black mist just seven meters away, three new puppets slowly emerged, steadily advancing.
