Chapter 152 - 151: Mu Tianyang meets Han Zilie
During the midnight hour, the provincial palace of Sky Jade City had fallen into a rare silence. The lively voices of the afternoon gathering were long gone, and most of the palace grounds had already sunk into darkness beneath the pale moonlight. Walking slowly along one of the secluded garden paths was Mu Tianyang.
He wore his pale blue-white Pure Cloud Sect robes, the silver embroidery catching the moonlight with every step. Beside him, walking a half-pace behind in a gesture of deep respect, was his Dao Protector, Elder Yan. The older man was a veteran of the Nascent Soul realm, dressed in unassuming gray, his presence practically invisible to the ambient world. Yet, in this private moment, the elder’s gaze toward his young master was filled with profound reverence.
"Your breath is entirely unified with the ambient flow of the capital’s spiritual veins," Elder Yan observed quietly, his voice a low murmur that did not disturb the stillness of the garden. "The transition is complete, is it not?"
Mu Tianyang did not break his measured stride. He simply inhaled, a slow, deep breath that caused the surrounding spiritual Qi to visibly shimmer and warp, drawing a tiny vortex of pure energy directly into his meridians.
"It is," Mu Tianyang replied, his tone pleasant but ringing with an unshakable certainty. "The consolidation was strenuous, given the situation, but my Nascent Soul has firmly rooted itself in the middle stage."
Elder Yan allowed a rare, genuine smile to appear on his usually stern face. "Middle Nascent Soul stage. At your age, reaching this level is indeed worthy of praise. The patriarchs were right to invest the sect’s core resources into strengthening your foundation. You are no longer merely a genius of the Pure Cloud Sect, Tianyang. With your current cultivation and talent, you have firmly established yourself as one of the most promising cultivators of the entire younger generation in the Zhao Province."
Mu Tianyang paused by a lotus pond, looking down at his own reflection in the still water. His handsome face betrayed no arrogant smirk, only the cold, deliberate acknowledgement of a fact.
"Being the most promising of the younger generation in a Lower Division province is merely a stepping stone, Elder Yan," Mu Tianyang corrected smoothly. "It is a necessary foundation, yes, but it is not the summit. The Lord Tournament of the Central Continent looms ahead. I am well aware that the monsters of the Upper Division view us as nothing more than stepping stones. My Dao revolves around absolute purity and immaculate control. To truly step into the upper echelons, I must ensure that every variable in my life, both martial and personal, aligns perfectly with that purity."
"You speak of Saintess Su Yin," Elder Yan noted softly, knowing the young man’s mind intimately.
"She is an essential pillar of my future," Mu Tianyang stated, his gaze remaining fixed on the water. "Her heart is kind, her foundation is pure, and her utility to the sect is unparalleled. We are the twin stars of the Pure Cloud Sect. It has been ordained by the patriarchs, and it is recognized by the heavens. Anyone who introduces chaos into that perfect alignment is a variable that must be swiftly and mercilessly corrected."
Before Elder Yan could offer a word of agreement, the silence of the garden was interrupted by the faint, deliberate crunch of footsteps on the moonstone gravel.
Both men turned, their auras remaining perfectly suppressed, though the atmosphere instantly chilled.
Stepping out from the shadows of a weeping spirit-willow was Han Zilie.
The young master of the Han clan looked markedly different from how he had appeared at the welcoming banquet. The humiliation Lin Yuan had dealt him, followed by Lord Zhao Shenming’s public endorsement of Lin Yuan, had shattered much of the arrogant confidence he had displayed earlier.
His fine silk robes remained immaculate, and the jade token representing his lineage still rested proudly at his collar, but the expression in his eyes had changed. A restrained, dangerous tension lingered there, revealing the anger he was struggling to contain. He no longer carried himself like someone certain of victory. Instead, every step was careful and deliberate, like a wounded predator searching for another opportunity to strike.
Mu Tianyang’s eyes narrowed slightly as he assessed the approaching young master with a single, sweeping glance. He immediately understood what kind of person Han Zilie was. Not a threat, but an opportunistic scavenger, the kind who only approached others when there was something to gain.
"Young Master Han," Mu Tianyang greeted, his voice perfectly pleasant, giving away absolutely nothing. "The hour is quite late for a stroll through the guest pavilions."
Han Zilie offered a smooth, practiced bow, though it lacked the deep reverence he might have offered a provincial lord. "Senior Disciple Mu. I apologize for the intrusion. The night air is often the best remedy for a restless mind. I saw you walking from the grand terrace and hoped you might permit a brief, private exchange of words."
Mu Tianyang did not immediately reply. He let the silence stretch, a deliberate pause designed to force Han Zilie to recognize the disparity in their actual power. The young master of the Han clan might possess political clout, but in terms of sheer cultivation, Mu Tianyang could erase him from the physical plane without breaking a sweat.
Finally, Mu Tianyang turned his head slightly. "Elder Yan. You may retire for the evening. I will finish my walk alone."
Elder Yan’s jaw tightened imperceptibly. He cast a dark, warning glance toward Han Zilie, entirely suspicious of the disgraced man motives. "Are you certain, Young Master? The capital is full of unpredictable currents."
"I am perfectly secure, Elder," Mu Tianyang replied, his tone gentle but brokering absolutely no debate. "Rest. The coming days will require your full vigilance."
Elder Yan bowed deeply. Without another word, the gray-robed Nascent Soul master stepped backward, melting seamlessly into the shadows of the garden until his presence vanished completely.
Mu Tianyang turned his full attention back to Han Zilie. He clasped his hands behind his back, projecting an aura of complete superiority.
"We are alone, Young Master Han," Mu Tianyang said. "I suggest you dispense with the customary pleasantries. We are not close friends, and given the events of the banquet, I imagine you are not here to discuss the beauty of the moon."
