Chapter 230 - 225: Awakening
Seven days later, a young monk walked in with a vegetarian meal and said to Su Yaoguang, who was keeping vigil by the bedside, "Lady benefactor, you should eat something first!"
Su Yaoguang rasped, "Thank you, little master. Please put it down for now, I’ll eat when I’m hungry later."
"Master said this benefactor is very severely injured, especially at such a critical place as the head, and hasn’t awakened for so long. It’s feared that the day he wakes is far off. Lady benefactor, staying here isn’t a solution. Perhaps you should take him home to recuperate?"
"Alright, I’ll take him home to recover first thing in the morning."
After the young monk left, Su Yaoguang held Zhou Wangshu’s hand and whispered softly by his ear, "It’s my fault, I shouldn’t have let you take risks. Xiao Ci was a Champion Scholar in his past life, someone protected by the heavens, and now after jumping off the cliff, you’re suffering because of him. You survived with great difficulty, and had you stayed far away, you wouldn’t have been affected by these things. But because of me, you were resented by Xiao Ci, leading to this string of events."
"Wang Shu, do you know how tragic your death was in your past life? You should be living freely and brilliantly in this life. Wake up soon! Someone as outstanding as you should have a bright and radiant future. If you died like this, wouldn’t it be even more suffocating than your past life? You worked so hard to become the top scholar; do you really want to hand over your honors to others?"
In the middle of the night, Su Yaoguang lay by the bedside, her head resting on Zhou Wangshu’s arm.
Zhou Wangshu moved his arm slightly and slowly opened his eyes.
Su Yaoguang noticed the movement, sat up, and looked at the wide-eyed Zhou Wangshu.
"Master Yixing..." Su Yaoguang called out.
Master Yixing was in the neighboring meditation room and soon came over upon hearing her call. He felt Zhou Wangshu’s pulse and checked his mental state.
"Congratulations, this benefactor is truly blessed; he’s out of danger now."
Su Yaoguang sighed in relief and pointed to his head, asking, "What about here?"
"As long as he’s awake, external injuries can gradually heal," Master Yixing said. "Lady benefactor, you’ve watched over him for seven days; you can finally rest easy."
"Thank you, master."
Su Yaoguang expressed her gratitude, considering donating more incense money tomorrow to thank the Bodhisattvas in the temple.
After Master Yixing left, closing the door behind him.
Su Yaoguang spoke to Zhou Wangshu, who hadn’t said a word, "You’re finally awake. Are you hungry? Should I get you something to eat?"
These days, while he was unconscious, aside from feeding him medicine on time, she could only give him rice soup to drink. Seven days had passed, and even a body of iron couldn’t endure. If it continued like this, even if his injuries healed, he might starve to death.
Su Yaoguang prepared to go to the kitchen to see if there was any leftover vegetarian meal. If not, she would make him a bowl of plain noodles, which was better than just rice soup.
Zhou Wangshu held her wrist and looked at her suspiciously, "Who are you?"
Su Yaoguang: "..."
She waved her hand in front of him, her expression changing, and sat back down, asking him, "You don’t recognize me?"
Zhou Wangshu shook his head, "Should I know you?"
Su Yaoguang’s eyes reddened again, "You are... Do you know who you are?"
Zhou Wangshu shook his head, staring at Su Yaoguang with confusion.
"No, I need to ask Master Yixing." Su Yaoguang wanted to go out to find Master Yixing but was held back by Zhou Wangshu.
"What is our relationship?" Zhou Wangshu asked, "Are you my... wife?"
Su Yaoguang hesitated for a moment, but eventually nodded, "Yes."
If he really turned silly, not to mention the exams, even taking care of himself would be difficult. Calling her his sister would make it inconvenient to care for him. For long-term considerations, it made more sense to say they were husband and wife. Only as a couple could they care for each other for the long haul.
After all, she never planned to marry again; being responsible for his injuries was only right. Zhou Wangshu became like this because of her matters. Whether out of responsibility or duty, she should take good care of him.
"You’re really my wife?" Zhou Wangshu continued to ask.
Su Yaoguang nodded "Yes."
"I don’t believe you." Zhou Wangshu regarded her with skepticism. "Do you have any proof?"
Su Yaoguang retorted impatiently, "Would an unmarried woman randomly claim someone as her husband? Now that you’re injured, what good would it do to trick you?"
"Then give me a kiss; if you kiss me, I’ll believe you’re my wife." Zhou Wangshu said, leaning towards Su Yaoguang and closing his eyes.
Su Yaoguang: "..."
