I Was Summoned to Die, so I’m Climbing the Pantheon for Revenge!

Chapter 44: The Shattered Will and the Symphony of Ruin

Location: Frontierra Nation - Cyanis Hollows Dungeon, Floor 50

Loop 6: The Fracture

The colossal bronze doors slammed shut with a deafening, final BOOM.

The idyllic, artificial morning sun bathed the emerald canopy in a warm, mocking glow. But this time, no one marveled at the scenery. The memory filter had completely collapsed. The subjective days of paralysis, the phantom pains of decapitation, and the agonizing expansion of their brains all flooded their conscious minds simultaneously.

Gareth ‘Ironhide’ did not say a word. The veteran A-Rank adventurer, a man who had spent three decades staring down dire wolves, wyverns, and abyssal horrors, simply broke.

He didn't draw his battleaxe. He reached down to his boot, smoothly drawing a serrated hunting dagger. His movements were mechanical, devoid of any hesitation.

"Gareth, NO!" Shiori screamed, her voice tearing her throat as she lunged forward.

She threw her body across the grass, her hand outstretched, her fingers brushing the cold steel of Gareth's pauldron. But she was a fraction of a second too late.

With a single, brutal jerk of his wrist, Gareth buried the dagger deep into the side of his own neck and ripped it forward. A horrific spray of crimson arterial blood painted the bright green grass and the delicate, artificial white lilies. Gareth collapsed heavily onto his side, his eyes rolling back, choking on his own blood as his HP plummeted to absolute zero.

Shiori hit the dirt, her hands instantly covered in the warm, sticky blood of the veteran vanguard. She stared at his lifeless corpse, her mind spinning in a vortex of disbelief.

Why? Shiori thought, her breath coming in ragged, hyperventilating gasps. Why did he surrender? He was a hardened veteran. He was middle-aged. He had seen the worst this world had to offer. We are just high school students... we are just kids! Why did he give up before us?

A raw, blood-curdling scream shattered the morning air. Elara, the usually stoic and composed elven ranger, fell to her knees beside Gareth’s body. Tears streamed down her face, ruining her camouflage paint as she grasped Gareth’s massive, lifeless hand.

Boran, the cynical mage, scrambled through the dirt, his staff forgotten. He grabbed the collar of Gareth’s heavy armor, shaking the dead man violently.

"You promised us, Gareth!" Boran roared, his voice cracking with utter devastation, his tears dropping heavily onto Gareth’s blood-soaked breastplate. "You stupid, stubborn ox! You promised! We swore to survive together, to run together, to die together, and to experience the end of this hell together! Why... why did you give up first? Why did you leave us behind?!"

A few feet away, Saintess Evelyn simply sat down in the grass. Her holy staff rolled away from her. She didn't pray. She didn't try to cast a healing spell. She stared blankly at the blood, her beautiful eyes devoid of all hope.

"Open! OPEN, DAMN YOU!"

Shota’s frantic screaming drew their attention. The young rogue had sprinted back to the colossal bronze doors. He was punching the ancient, magically sealed metal with his bare fists. CLANG. CLANG. CLANG.

He punched with such desperate, hysterical force that his knuckles split open. Bright red blood smeared across the dark bronze, leaving gruesome handprints on the door. "Let us out! I don't want to hear it! I don't want to hear the music again!"

Yua and Mei, driven by the same blind panic, raised their staffs.

"Break! Just break!" Yua shrieked, unleashing a torrent of [Holy Smite] directly at the doors.

"Shatter!" Mei screamed, casting [Lightning Lance] after [Lightning Lance].

Deafening explosions rocked the threshold, smoke and debris filling the air. But as the dust cleared, the bronze doors remained entirely unscathed, absorbing their Ultimate magic as if it were a light breeze. Yua and Mei fell to their knees, panting heavily, their MP completely wasted.

Shiori stared at Gareth’s corpse, a sickening realization washing over her. Gareth died... but the time loop didn't trigger. The dungeon's twisted mechanics became agonizingly clear. A single death meant nothing. The save point would only activate once the entire party was wiped out. They were trapped here with a corpse, waiting for the piano to start.

Suddenly, the frantic sound of Shota punching the door stopped.

Shiori turned her head. Shota was standing perfectly still, his bloody hands resting against the bronze. An eerie, terrifying calm had settled over his face.

"I won't let her play it," Shota whispered, his eyes hollow. "I won't let her hurt me again."

Before anyone could react, Shota raised his bloody hands and pointed them directly at his own chest. The air around him plummeted to sub-zero temperatures in a fraction of a second. A powerful, concentrated burst of ice magic erupted from his palms.

"Shota-kun, wait—!" Shiori screamed, scrambling to her feet.

It was over instantly. Shota encased himself in a solid block of unyielding, absolute zero ice. He didn't freeze the door; he froze himself.

Shiori and Evelyn scrambled over to the block of ice. The Saintess frantically cast a diagnostic spell, but the golden light immediately faded into a dull, lifeless grey.

"He's... he's gone," Evelyn whispered. "His HP is zero. The extreme cold stopped his heart instantly."

"You idiot!" Yua shrieked, crawling over to the frozen statue of their friend, her hands slapping uselessly against the ice. "You absolute idiot!"

Mei collapsed next to Yua, sobbing uncontrollably. "He was the strong one! He always acted like the guy with the toughest mindset! He was always so cheerful, always telling us we'd make it! Why... why did he give up first? He's our friend! Why did he leave us here?!"

Watching her classmates break, watching her friends choose suicide over fighting, the iron dam holding back Shiori’s emotions finally completely shattered.

She fell to her knees in the dirt, burying her face in her hands. The fearless, tactical leader of the Summoned Heroes began to cry. Deep, wracking, ugly sobs tore through her chest.

"Why is everyone giving up?!" Shiori cried out, her voice echoing mournfully through the fake forest. She looked up, her lavender-highlighted hair clinging to her tear-streaked face. "Do you think I'm not scared? Do you think I don't want to give up too?! I'm terrified!"

She looked at Yua, Mei, and the grieving adventurers. "I want to go home! I just want to sleep in my own bed! I still have a family waiting for me back in Tokyo! My parents... they don't even know if I'm alive! Don't you all have families waiting for you too? People you love?!"

Shiori slammed her fist into the dirt. "So why do you want to give up without trying?! No matter how hopeless this is, no matter how many times that little girl kills us, we have the time loop! At least we still have a chance! For our beloved ones, for our families... why should we surrender to her?!"

Saintess Evelyn looked at Shiori's desperate, pleading face. The Cleric gripped her holy symbol so tightly her knuckles turned white.

"The... the Goddess," Evelyn stammered, her voice cracking pathetically. "Goddess Kamiya will guide us. We must just... just stay positive..."

But her words were utterly hollow. Evelyn didn't believe them. Nobody believed them.

Suddenly, the artificial sun blinked out of existence. The sky plunged into a suffocating, abyssal black.

From the darkness above, a voice drifted down, permeating the very atmosphere. It was the multi-layered, sorrowful whisper of the Witch of Loneliness.

"Why did they break themselves?" the little girl's voice asked, echoing with a twisted, innocent confusion. "Why did they bleed on my floor? Do you really think my playing is that bad? I just wanted guests. I just wanted to entertain you."

The absolute despair on the faces of the survivors deepened into sheer, unadulterated terror.

High above, the obsidian piano materialized. But the Witch didn't wait to descend this time. From the darkness, she struck the keys.

It wasn't the melancholic triplets. It wasn't the decapitating chord. It was a brand new note—a heavy, atonal, dissonant cluster of base keys that sounded like the grinding tectonic plates of hell itself.

CLANG.

The acoustic wave hit them not as sound, but as physical, omnidirectional gravity.

"AGHHH!" Boran screamed, his eyes rolling back as his eardrums immediately ruptured, spraying blood down his neck.

The pain was infinitely worse than before. Shiori felt her body violently forced flat against the grass. And then, the internal destruction began.

CRACK.

Shiori gasped, tasting copper. Her left collarbone had just snapped under the acoustic pressure.

All around her, the symphony of ruin played out. This was not a quick execution; this was a deliberate, agonizing punishment for refusing to listen to her concert.

Yua screamed a high, piercing note as her forearms twisted unnaturally, the bones splintering through her skin. Elara vomited a massive torrent of black blood as her internal organs—her stomach, her liver—began to violently rupture under the pressure.

Snap. Snap. Snap.

The horrifying sound of vertebrae breaking one by one echoed over the piano notes. Boran’s spine gave way, his body contorting into a grotesque angle.

Mei, thrashing in absolute, blinding agony, tried to mimic Shota. Her hands glowed with desperate blue light. Freeze! Just freeze me! she thought, casting the ice spell on herself to numb the excruciating pain.

But as the ice began to encase her legs, the Witch struck another heavy, grinding chord.

The acoustic wave shattered the ice, and Mei's frozen legs shattered with it. She let out a gurgling, wet shriek, dying slowly as her blood vessels began to explode one by one, painting her skin in horrific purple bruises before bursting outward.

Shiori lay in the grass, paralyzed by the sheer, unending torture. Her ribs were caving in, her lungs filling with blood. The Witch was punishing them, making them feel every microscopic ounce of pain, stretching their deaths out for what felt like hours.

As her vision finally began to swim in a sea of dark crimson, Shiori heard the piano continue to play, a beautiful, merciless lullaby guiding them back to the beginning of hell.
