Chapter 307: Who Masterminded It?

Distracted by Yang Xiaofu, Wang Chenning didn’t immediately spot the attackers who rushed out of the darkness.

By the time he reacted, two of his slower companions had already been struck.

Thankfully, Wang Chenning was incredibly agile. He charged over in an instant and sent the two thugs beating the exchange students flying, one with each foot. If he hadn’t, the two unlucky students would have been beaten to the ground.

He knocked down two of the assailants, then hoisted one up and used him as a battering ram against the several more charging from behind. Seizing the opportunity, he kicked away the men in front of him, snatched the clubs from two of their hands, and swung them wildly. Once he’d forced the attackers back, Wang Chenning shouted an order for the others to get back and find a way to contact the group leaders and call the police.

Yang Xiaofu panicked at first, but she quickly composed herself. She yelled for her companions to fall back and shielded the students behind her.

She ushered her companions back, trying to create distance from Wang Chenning.

Yang Xiaofu knew how formidable Wang Chenning was. She had complete faith in him, certain he could take down all these thugs.

However, it wasn’t as easy as Yang Xiaofu believed. The assailants had clearly come prepared. They were experienced, forgoing taking turns and instead forming a semicircle to slowly close in on him.

Wang Chenning wasn’t afraid of getting injured himself; he was worried about Yang Xiaofu and the other students getting hurt. So instead of a passive defense, he charged forward, ignoring the clubs swinging in his direction. He moved so fast the thugs couldn’t even react.

In the blink of an eye, he had knocked seven or eight of them to the ground, where they stayed, unable to get back up.

But to Wang Chenning’s surprise, another wave of thugs charged out from the darkness. Between the two groups, there were now over forty men.

He didn’t back down. Instead, his fighting spirit surged, and he plowed through the crowd, sending bodies flying.

He was slightly relieved to see they were clearly targeting him and hadn’t sent many men after Yang Xiaofu and the others.

The few who did try to break off and go after Yang Xiaofu’s group were quickly taken down by Wang Chenning.

A short while into the fight, something happened that surprised both Wang Chenning and his attackers.

Just as Wang Chenning was locked in a stalemate against the forty-odd assailants, Wang Liqing and Wang Liyu arrived on the scene.

Both women were highly skilled fighters. They charged in, swiftly taking down any thug that stood in their way.

Moreover, their blows were heavy; any man they struck down couldn’t get back up.

Wang Chenning was even more ruthless. Every thug he took down was seriously injured.

He could have easily taken their lives, but he knew that a death would change the entire nature of the incident.

Even if he were ultimately acquitted, he would still face a mountain of trouble.

The power of the three of them fighting together was immense. The thugs finally broke, and their leader shouted in Japanese for his men to retreat.

’We didn’t get Chenning right away, and now he has backup. The cops will be here any minute. If we don’t pull back now, we might not get away at all.’

Wang Chenning had no intention of letting them escape so easily. He yelled instructions to Wang Liqing and Wang Liyu, "Take out the leader first! Subdue the ones who look like they’re in charge, and then we’ll figure out how to take them with us."

Wang Liqing and Wang Liyu understood. They immediately abandoned the other thugs and charged toward the men who had been shouting orders.

The two women were incredibly swift. They were also armed. Working together, they took down the man who had ordered the retreat and captured him.

The sharp wail of police sirens echoed in the distance. The thugs who could still move didn’t dare linger any longer and quickly scattered in all directions.

The injured thugs couldn’t escape. Anyone who tried to struggle to their feet was promptly kicked back down by Wang Chenning.

After capturing the apparent leader, Wang Liqing and Wang Liyu grabbed a couple of other subdued thugs and vanished before the authorities arrived on the scene.

Since the ambush occurred not far from where the exchange group was staying, the leaders of the delegation and officers from the Japanese police arrived at the scene at roughly the same time.

Upon arriving and taking in the scene, Zheng Chusheng and another deputy head of the delegation immediately went to confront the police and lodge a formal protest.

A Japanese police official, who had initially assumed it was just a brawl between locals, felt a headache coming on when he realized it was an international incident involving Wang Chenning, a rather famous member of the Huaxia exchange delegation. He immediately called his superiors to report.

A short time later, Yang Xiaofei, Luo Yuqing, Li Fuzhen, Tian Zhongxin, and Tian Zhiheng all arrived, having received a call from Yang Xiaofu.

Seeing the brutal scene—injured members of the Huaxia delegation and Wang Chenning’s face covered in blood—Yang Xiaofei and Luo Yuqing angrily voiced their outrage.

Li Fuzhen was also incensed. She immediately called her business partners in Tokyo and several officials she knew to lodge a strong protest.

Once the situation was under control, a badly frightened Yang Xiaofu was finally able to relax.

She posted the videos and photos she had taken of Wang Chenning’s brutal fight with the thugs to her social media, asking everyone to share them so more people would know what had happened.

Zhao Xiao’an, who was keeping close tabs on Wang Chenning, saw Yang Xiaofu’s posts and immediately shared them.

After sharing the post, she called Luo Yuqing and Yang Xiaofu, telling them to get involved by any means necessary and not to let the matter rest until it was properly resolved.

Only after confirming that the police had arrived and Wang Chenning was unharmed did she call him directly.

Zhao Xiao’an briefly asked about the situation. Upon learning that Wang Chenning wasn’t hurt and the others were fine, she didn’t keep him long, just telling him to cooperate with the police investigation for now.

A large number of officers from the Tokyo police department arrived. After they gained a preliminary understanding of events and secured the scene, traffic in the area was restored.

To prevent the situation from escalating, the police took all the downed thugs into custody and requested that Wang Chenning’s group accompany them to the station for questioning.

Wang Chenning didn’t refuse their request to cooperate. Accompanied by several of the delegation’s leaders and staff from the foreign affairs office who had arrived, he was driven to the Tokyo police headquarters.

On the way there, Wang Chenning instructed Yang Xiaofu and a few others not to mention the fact that they had help fighting off the attackers.

Yang Xiaofu understood immediately and told the others to get their story straight.

After arriving at the police station, Luo Yuqing went to Wang Chenning’s side and whispered, "Who do you think wants you dead?"

"Probably not the Japanese."

"Then who?" Luo Yuqing asked, stunned.

"It could be people from back home, but it’s most likely the South Koreans."
