Chapter 42: You’re Worse Than an Animal

Wang Chenning and Li Mingchao met again at 11:30 PM.

Although Li Mingchao had changed his clothes and combed his hair, the look of defeat on his face was even more pronounced.

In fact, in just a few short hours, he seemed to have aged significantly. His once-handsome face had become haggard.

"I’m giving you Li Garden Hall as compensation for offending you today!" The moment he saw Wang Chenning, Li Mingchao got straight to the point. "Li Garden Hall’s business is just as good as Sunshine Hall’s, with an annual profit of at least two hundred million. We can handle the transfer of ownership tomorrow. As for the staff, you can keep them if you want, or replace them as you see fit. From now on, if you need anything in Yandu, just give me a call. As long as it’s something I can do, I won’t refuse."

As he spoke, he held out his hand to Wang Chenning. "Give me the antidote!"

He was in so much discomfort that he felt like stabbing himself a few times just to cut out the parts that hurt.

"In that case, it would be rude to refuse!" Wang Chenning accepted magnanimously. "Coming to Yandu, I happen to be short on reliable people and profitable businesses. Thank you, Eldest Young Master Li, for this timely assistance."

As he spoke, Wang Chenning took a white pill from his pocket and placed it in front of Li Mingchao. "Take this with warm water, and your symptoms will disappear immediately!"

With a swift movement, Li Mingchao snatched the white pill from Wang Chenning’s hand and swallowed it in one gulp.

He ate it so hastily that he nearly choked. He had to gulp down several mouthfuls of water and cough hard before he felt a little better.

Strangely enough, less than a minute after taking the pill, his symptoms began to improve, and he started to feel comfortable again.

After about five minutes, he felt completely normal.

"This dose will last for seventy-two hours. After that, the discomfort will return, and it will be even worse than before." Wang Chenning stood up and said with a chuckle, "I hope Eldest Young Master Li doesn’t forget to ask me for another antidote within seventy-two hours!"

"Ah..." Li Mingchao, who had already planned his next move, was dumbfounded when he heard this. "You’re... messing with me!"

"I’m not messing with you!" Wang Chenning spread his hands, a look of innocence on his face. "As the saying goes, illness comes like a landslide but leaves like pulling silk. How could a poison be cured so easily? It has to be done slowly. This is a neurotoxin. The pill you just took only temporarily suppresses its damage to your nerves. We suppress it first, then gradually cure it. The poison should be completely gone in about half a year. Of course, you can choose not to believe me!"

Li Mingchao’s face turned deathly pale.

He naturally didn’t believe a word Wang Chenning said, but he didn’t dare to disbelieve him either.

"Fine, I’ll come to you for the next dose in a couple of days!" Li Mingchao didn’t dare gamble with his own life.

Wang Chenning held up his phone. "I just recorded what you said. I hope you’ll honor your promise. Also, I’ll be holding onto that video of you insulting Luo Yuqing for a while. I’ll decide whether to delete it or send it to her based on your performance! Good night, and sweet dreams!"

With that, Wang Chenning drifted away.

"Sweet dreams, my ass!" Li Mingchao sat down in a rage and slammed his fist on the table.

He hit it too hard, causing him to wince and grit his teeth in pain.

Several bodyguards immediately rushed in, anxiously asking Li Mingchao what was going on and why he hadn’t given the order to attack Wang Chenning.

Before meeting Wang Chenning, Li Mingchao had made thorough arrangements, instructing his bodyguards to act on his command.

They were to subdue Wang Chenning no matter what—even killing him wouldn’t have been a problem.

But to their surprise, Wang Chenning had walked away freely, and Li Mingchao had done nothing.

"Get the hell out, you useless bunch!" Li Mingchao kicked the bodyguard in front of him and cursed, "What’s the point of me keeping you around?"

Then he ordered them to temporarily call off all measures against Wang Chenning.

He was afraid his plan would backfire and he’d end up the victim again.

Early the next morning, Li Mingchao called to ask when Wang Chenning would be free to handle the handover of Li Garden Hall.

Wang Chenning had two classes in the morning, so he told Li Mingchao he would only be free in the afternoon.

"I’ll be waiting for you at Li Garden Hall!" Li Mingchao told Wang Chenning he would have someone prepare all the financial and personnel records for his review.

Li Mingchao was true to his word. When Wang Chenning arrived that afternoon, he had all the documents ready.

Wang Chenning briefly looked through them and saw that the hall’s business was indeed excellent, with a daily revenue of at least five million and a staff of over two hundred people.

The person in charge of the hall was Li Mingchao’s mistress, a woman with a good face and figure who looked quite flirtatious.

When she heard Li Mingchao was giving the hall to Wang Chenning, the woman was tearful and seemed very reluctant to let it go.

But after Li Mingchao slapped her, she became obedient.

Wang Chenning only asked Li Mingchao’s mistress to leave; everyone else was kept on.

"I expect the hall to continue operating as before. No matter how many of your people are on staff, let them keep working until I find a suitable manager. I hope I don’t see anyone deliberately causing trouble!"

"I will definitely make them follow your orders until you find people you trust." Li Mingchao hadn’t considered sabotaging the hall.

He had already found out that Wang Chenning came from a well-off family and didn’t really care about money.

If the hall’s business suffered, or even if the hall was lost entirely, it wouldn’t affect Wang Chenning’s life, but he himself would likely suffer the consequences.

If Wang Chenning got angry and refused to give him the antidote, he’d be finished.

To keep Wang Chenning satisfied, he even had to find ways to make Li Garden Hall’s business better and more prosperous in the meantime.

Li Mingchao was quite generous when it came down to it. Wang Chenning felt he had underestimated him before.

’A rich young master who knows when to yield and when to stand firm was never going to be a simple character.’

Wang Chenning also knew that although Li Mingchao had submitted for now, he would never be able to swallow this humiliation and would definitely seek revenge.

’I still need to take proper precautions, lest I get tripped up by a simple mistake.’

After completing the handover, Wang Chenning prepared to leave.

Just as he was walking toward the hall’s main door, he heard the sound of a deliberately suppressed argument coming from behind a screen.

"Zhou Jieyang, you’re worse than an animal! I must have been blind to have fallen for a scumbag like you." A woman’s furious voice reached Wang Chenning’s ears.

"Qiuhang, don’t be angry. Just listen to me." A man’s voice followed. "You need to face reality. In this society, there are no rewards without sacrifice. How can you expect to achieve your dreams without paying a price? You’re beautiful and talented, yes, but are there few women out there who are just as beautiful and talented as you? All the girls interning with you are beautiful and talented, but did they get what they wanted? Is talent useful? Yes, but it’s not the most important factor..."

"So, you want me to sleep with another man? You’re going to personally offer your own girlfriend to someone else?" The woman’s voice became filled with uncontrollable rage. "How can a scumbag like you even exist in this world? You’re worse than an animal!"
