On a Stormy Night, the Campus Belle Knocked on My Door Seeking Shelter

Chapter 173: A Telepathic Connection

Although Chen Mo was joking, his words sounded incredibly sweet to Su Yuqing.

Chen Mo always had a way of unintentionally landing critical hits on Su Yuqing’s heart, completely oblivious to it himself.

At that moment, a wave of sweetness washed over Su Yuqing, as if her heart had been filled with honey.

"So, do you feel like you’ve been learning anything new lately?" Chen Mo asked with a smile.

"Yeah, I’ve definitely learned a lot, and some of the simple solutions for the problems have been a huge help," Su Yuqing said with a nod.

"That’s good. Then my efforts weren’t for nothing," Chen Mo said with a smile. "I’ll definitely help you get into the school you want. From now on, if you have any questions about your studies, you can always come to me."

"Okay," Su Yuqing nodded.

In fact, she did have a few difficult problems she’d been wanting to ask him about lately. But seeing him surrounded by so many people every day, she knew he must be exhausted. She didn’t have the heart to take up what little free time he had.

Love wasn’t about one-sidedly taking; it was about mutual care and consideration.

Su Yuqing always tried to see things from Chen Mo’s perspective and think about what was best for him.

Likewise, Chen Mo felt the same way about Su Yuqing.

When they got home for lunch, Chen Mo made some noodles. Using the chicken soup they had, he cooked two bowls of chicken soup noodles. After they enjoyed a delicious meal together, he told Su Yuqing to get some rest.

They had the physical education proficiency exam in the afternoon, so Chen Mo made sure to get some good rest himself.

A light afternoon breeze drifted into the room, bringing with it a hint of coolness. The two of them leaned against the sofa together, sleeping soundly in silence.

They both slept incredibly soundly.

They didn’t wake up until the alarm clock went off.

After grabbing some wet wipes from the coffee table to rub their eyes, they both felt like the world had come into focus.

"How was your nap? Did you sleep well?" Chen Mo’s first thought was to ask about Su Yuqing.

"I slept really well. With... I feel like it’s been a long time since I’ve slept this well." Su Yuqing had wanted to say that having Chen Mo by her side made her feel incredibly at ease, allowing her to sleep peacefully. But she caught herself, thinking that might be misinterpreted, so she kept the thought to herself.

When they arrived at school in the afternoon, several large buses were already waiting to take everyone to the gymnasium.

This afternoon was the district-wide physical education proficiency exam for all high school students.

Normally, unless you were a student-athlete, just getting a passing P.E. score was good enough.

There was no need to perform exceptionally well.

The last time, Chen Mo had just acted on a whim. He wanted to test what kind of athletic level he could reach by combining his well-trained, still-developing high-school body with the various techniques he had later mastered.

That’s why his performance had been so outstanding. Today, however, he decided to be a bit more low-key.

After his performance last time, Tian Jing had been hounding him to become a student-athlete.

If he performed exceptionally well again here, he would just draw even more unwanted attention.

Although Chen Mo enjoyed sports, fitness, and working out, he had no desire to turn it into a job or a lifelong career.

Pushing his body like that wasn’t actually as healthy as one might think.

On the bus, Chen Mo and Su Yuqing sat side by side. Their thoughts drifted back to their trip to the park in the old district.

They had promised his grandparents they would visit again when they had time, but they hadn’t been able to. Last weekend was Zhao Yuanyuan’s birthday, and on top of that, Chen Mo had been sick.

This weekend, however, they were free. They could pay his grandparents a visit.

At this thought, Chen Mo glanced over at Su Yuqing.

His gaze held a hint of a fantasy.

’If I really brought Su Yuqing back as their granddaughter-in-law, my grandparents would be overjoyed, wouldn’t they? I can tell they already think very highly of her.’

And Su Yuqing, for her part, deeply respected and loved the two of them.

Chen Mo could tell from her behavior that she deeply missed her own maternal grandparents.

After they passed away, she no longer had any elders in her family who cared for her so much.

The appearance of his own grandparents in her life had given her back that long-lost feeling of being cared for.

’Since both sides are happy with each other, of course I’m willing to take Su Yuqing to see my grandparents again.’

His grandparents would be happy, Su Yuqing would be happy—it was a win-win.

Just as Chen Mo was thinking this, Su Yuqing suddenly turned her head to look at him.

"We promised your grandparents we’d visit again. How about we go see them this weekend?" Su Yuqing asked, her eyes questioning.

Chen Mo couldn’t help but smile when he heard that.

’Great minds think alike.’ They were completely on the same page. "Sure," he said. "If you don’t think it’ll be boring hanging out with a couple of old folks, we can go visit them this weekend."

"Of course not! Your grandparents are witty and funny, and besides, over there I can see..." Su Yuqing trailed off, a sweet smile playing on her lips.

For Su Yuqing, being able to see and hear tidbits about Chen Mo’s childhood was like discovering a priceless treasure.

Her smile immediately reminded Chen Mo of those baby photos of him with his bare bottom.

A faint blush crept onto his cheeks.

He couldn’t help but inwardly grumble, ’Grandma, seriously... She has absolutely no regard for a person’s privacy.’

It didn’t matter that he had lived an extra ten years—even if he’d lived an extra twenty or thirty—having his naked baby photos pulled out in front of a girl he had a budding crush on was still mortifying.

Suddenly, a thought occurred to Chen Mo. ’I wonder if Su Yuqing has a childhood photo album.’

But considering her parents had divorced when she was young, looking through her photo album might not just be a trip down memory lane. It would likely be filled with pain and tears.

So Chen Mo decided not to bring it up.

Before long, the bus arrived at the gymnasium.

Shortly after they got off the bus, Chen Mo spotted their homeroom teacher, He Xiaoyun, and their P.E. teacher, Tian Jing, standing up ahead.

They were there, of course, to lead the students through the proficiency exam.

As the line of students moved forward, Tian Jing’s gaze landed on Chen Mo. His performance was even more impressive than that of a typical student-athlete.

In Tian Jing’s mind, a regular student should lack the training and technique of a student-athlete.

Given that, Chen Mo’s skill was already so impressive. If he were to receive professional training and master more techniques, his results would be absolutely explosive.

But unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

Chen Mo had paid close attention to physical fitness ever since he was a child—a habit his grandfather had instilled in him.

Things like breath-holding exercises were just the basics; his grandfather also frequently had him participate in all sorts of sports.

His grandfather’s favorite saying was "Life is movement," a phrase that had a profound impact on Chen Mo. Therefore, his physical condition in high school was already the product of intense training. It was this foundation, combined with the techniques he mastered later, that allowed him to perform so well last week. In reality, he didn’t have much room left for explosive improvement.
