Chapter 165: What a Coincidence
"I’m not entirely sure, but we tracked the surveillance footage along his route, and the car he was in came over to your jurisdiction.
The authority to review the subsequent footage falls under your jurisdiction, so the police station over there sent me here to continue the search," the middle-aged woman said with a serious expression.
"I can see you’re a very grateful person, coming all this way to find him," the female officer said with a smile.
"It’s the right thing to do. He took such a huge risk jumping into the river to save someone. Plus, it was quite cold the night before last; he could have easily caught a cold. It just wouldn’t be right not to thank him properly.
We can’t let good deeds go unrewarded, after all," the middle-aged woman said with a chuckle.
At that moment, Liu Xin happened to be passing by and overheard their conversation. He was holding a thermos, casually sipping from it as he walked. He glanced at the surveillance monitor, then immediately backed up. Screwing the lid back on his thermos, he craned his neck for a better look, his expression one of surprise.
The video wasn’t perfectly clear, but with the sharp eyes of a veteran officer like Liu Xin, he could tell at a glance that the silhouettes of the young man and woman in the video looked extremely familiar.
The images of Chen Mo and Su Yuqing flashed through his mind.
He also recalled what the middle-aged woman had just said.
She said it was cold the night before last, and that he might have caught a cold.
Liu Xin remembered that Chen Mo did, in fact, have a cold right now.
’What a coincidence.’
He looked utterly astonished.
"Uncle Liu, what is it?" the female officer asked, looking at Liu Xin curiously.
"I was just thinking what a coincidence this is. I know this young man," Liu Xin said with a smile.
"Oh, really?" the middle-aged woman said, looking at Liu Xin with excitement.
"There’s no mistake." Liu Xin glanced at the screen again to be sure.
"Then, Officer, can you help me find him?"
"No problem. I have his phone number right here," Liu Xin replied with a smile.
"It seems a little late now, and I’d hate to disturb him. How about tomorrow? You can help me contact him tomorrow so I can thank him in person," the middle-aged woman said happily.
"Mm, that shouldn’t be a problem. However, he’s still a student. I think it would be best to wait until he’s in class and we can go to his school to formally commend him. That way, we can also set a good example for others," Liu Xin said with a broad smile.
"Yes, yes, that’s perfect! Good people deserve to be recognized and honored," the female officer beside him added with a chuckle.
"You’re both right, Officers. Let’s do it your way. I’ll leave my contact information with you. Just let me know when you’ve decided on a day," the middle-aged woman said, happily jotting her phone number down on a nearby piece of paper.
She was naturally thrilled that her benefactor would be publicly commended.
The act of saving a life is like giving a second one.
A debt that immense was something she could likely never fully repay.
This was just a small token of her heartfelt gratitude.
After the middle-aged woman left, Liu Xin glanced at the surveillance monitor again.
’This kid is something else.’
Just the day before yesterday, he’d acted heroically and caught a cold from it, yet today he was able to single-handedly and cleanly take down a knife-wielding home invader.
’What an incredible guy.’
「In the hospital」
Chen Mo was bored out of his mind, getting an IV drip. He feigned sleep, closing his eyes to rest.
Suddenly, he felt a cool touch on his cheek. He opened his eyes to see a mischievous smile and a face so exquisitely beautiful it looked as if a 3D artist had poured all their skill into meticulously sculpting it.
"How’s that? Does your face feel any cooler?"
When Su Yuqing arrived at the hospital’s infusion area, she saw that Chen Mo’s face was flushed as if he were burning up. Her own hands happened to be a bit cold, so she playfully pressed them against his cheek.
Chen Mo, who had been feeling utterly bored just a moment ago, suddenly felt a wave of warmth wash over him. "You’re so playful," he said with a smile. "Come on, sit down."
With Su Yuqing by his side, the loneliness in his heart began to fade.
In truth, Chen Mo’s heart had always felt empty. It was Su Yuqing’s reappearance in his life that was gradually filling that void.
He was saving Su Yuqing, and in turn, Su Yuqing was saving him.
"Are you thirsty? I’ll go get you some warm water." Su Yuqing had barely sat down before she was up on her feet again, bustling about.
Before Chen Mo could even answer, she was already off to get the water.
She quickly returned with a small glass of warm water.
With her so attentively taking care of him, Chen Mo felt like he didn’t even need to think for himself.
He had only just started to feel a bit thirsty, and Su Yuqing had already anticipated it.
She was practically faster than his own reflexes.
Still, having Su Yuqing spend her time accompanying him at the hospital felt like a bit of a waste.
He smiled and said, "The hospital has a funny smell. You should probably head home."
"It’s fine. I’ll stay with you. You’re sick and can’t get around easily, so you need someone here," Su Yuqing said with a gentle, unconcerned smile, shaking her head.
Chen Mo smiled and didn’t press the issue. He just watched her quietly until his gaze made her blush.
She quickly pulled out her phone and pretended to scroll through it.
She started playing some funny videos she liked to watch and began sharing them with Chen Mo. Before they knew it, they were leaning against each other, heads close together, watching the clips on her phone.
Every now and then, they would burst out laughing at something funny on the screen.
With Su Yuqing for company, Chen Mo felt the time fly by.
Last night, getting the IV had felt like an eternity, with every second dragging on. Today, it felt like no time at all before both IV bags were empty.
Su Yuqing was about to call a nurse to remove the needle, but Chen Mo smiled and said, "No need. I can do it myself."
Su Yuqing watched as Chen Mo skillfully tore off the medical tape, swiftly pulled out the needle, and immediately pressed a new piece of tape over the puncture site.
After holding it for about thirty seconds, Chen Mo finally let go and stood up.
"See? Simple, right?" he said with a smile.
Su Yuqing gave Chen Mo a noncommittal look.
She was still terrified of hospital IV needles like that one.
Forget about pulling one out herself.
Just looking at the needle was enough to make the back of her hand throb with phantom pain.
She had been terrified of getting shots as a child.
Then again, most children are.
After they left the infusion area, Chen Mo couldn’t help but feel curious about her visit with Li Tie. He’d been so caught up in the funny videos earlier that he had forgotten to ask.
"It went well. I think he’s doing better now, but it’s up to the police to have someone evaluate the extent of his recovery." Su Yuqing kept her answer brief and didn’t elaborate.
She didn’t mention things like helping Li Tie ask for forgiveness. Chen Mo had been in such great danger, and her heart ached for him. This was a decision he had to make for himself, and she had no intention of interfering.
After leaving the hospital, Chen Mo was about to hail a cab when he noticed a new text message on his phone. He opened it and was surprised to see it was from Officer Liu Xin.
