Chapter 141: Marco is dead
Gen braced herself and walked inside the private room while maintaining her composure. With her father not present, she could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
She didn’t want to be caught if she wanted to leave this place alive.
As she continued to serve Marco drinks, she overheard the man standing next to him speak.
"Boss, are you certain that man will have enough money to pay for the slow poison?"
When Gen heard those words, her mind went completely hazy.
’Slow poison’ rang like an alarm in Gen’s mind, and her hand trembled as the tray in her hand landed on the table with a thud.
All eyes were on her, and she quickly collected herself. "I-I am sorry," she said, avoiding meeting Marco’s gaze.
The man took a few seconds to look at her before returning his attention to the man speaking with him.
"He wouldn’t baffle like that. And whoever he works for is filthy rich. Or else, a beggar like him would never dare to step foot here." Marco took a drag from his cigar.
He initially doubted Thomas, but the way he stood his ground amused him.
Gen, on the other hand, fidgeted as she proceeded to pour drinks. Her mind raced as the piece finally fit into place.
’Pretine Group, Slow poison....does this mean someone has hired dad to poison Adrian Graham?’
The realization hit Gen like a bolt, and no matter how hard she tried to deny it, she could only conclude.
After all, Adrian Graham was a well-known figure who avoided the spotlight. Nonetheless, there was no doubt that he would face competitors who wanted to harm him.
And maybe that rival must have hired her father to poison him.
Gen continued to ponder, forgetting that she needed to focus on her work, until she trembled and the glass she was holding fell on Marco.
"Holy shit!"
The loud roar jolted Gen out of her trance, and she realized what she had done.
Her eyes widen in terror, and within a few seconds, the men standing around her point the gun.
"..."
Gen’s breath caught in her throat, and her entire body stilled.
"I-I apologize. I didn’t mean to-" Gen attempted to speak, but the man from before stepped forward.
"Do you realize what you’ve done? Can’t you do your work properly?"
Gen trembled as she stared at the man who had pointed the gun at her. She thought it was finally time to say goodbye to the world, but Marco interrupted her just as she was about to tell Clara everything her father was planning.
"Relax, Don. Mistakes happen." Marco, who had been staring at Gen since she walked in, smirked.
He then waved, and Don took a step back. "What is your name? Marco inquired, and Gen looked at him as if he had grown two horns on his head.
However, Gen knew that if she did not want to be killed by his men, she would respond. "Jessie," she said, pointing to the nametag on her uniform.
Marco had seen many waitresses before, but this one stood out. She was young and would probably be even better in bed.
"Everyone leave," Marco said abruptly, and Gen looked at him in shock.
Following their boss’s order, everyone quickly left, leaving Gen alone to face Marco.
"Do you know why I sent everyone away?" he asked, and Gen gulped as he suddenly stood up and took a risky step closer to her.
"No," she stuttered, attempting to take a step back, ready to run; however, Marco grabbed her hand and yanked her closer.
"Because tonight I am going to have you."
Gen’s eyes widened as she attempted to push the man, only to discover that he was three times stronger than her.
"L-Let go of me," she tried to break free, but Marco refused. He lifted her up on his shoulder and tossed her onto the couch before hovering over her.
"I do not take no for an answer, girl. And if you want to continue working here, you must warm my bed.
The man seemed unstoppable, but Gen knew she couldn’t let him have his way with her.
Just when Marco tried to kiss her, Gen mustered her courage and kicked him between the legs until he dropped on the floor crying in pain.
"You bitch."
But Gen disregarded him and moved away. She was about to flee when Marco got up, pointed, and grabbed her once more, slamming her against the wall this time.
"You assumed I would let you go. No, bitch." Marco screamed, slamming Gen’s head against the wall until she started to bleed. "You dare to defy me, now I will make sure you remember who I am."
For an instant, everything became blurry, and her body started to feel weak. And Marco dragged her back to the couch, taking advantage of her condition.
Her body was still lying weakly, but his eyes were staring at her dangerously.
Gen thought she had lost, but then a familiar face appeared.
"D-dad," she said, and Marco stopped for a second. But as soon as he followed her gaze, he saw Thomas and Paul emerge from the adjacent room, and his expression darkened.
And the moment Thomas’s gaze landed on the women beneath Marco, his expression became motionless.
"G-Gen"

Meanwhile, inside Karlo’s private lounge, Clara sat quietly across from him, curiosity flickering in her eyes. Karlo had promised to show her something important, and although she had no idea what it was, she couldn’t help feeling intrigued.
Just as Karlo reached for the folder resting on the table, the lounge door burst open.
A man stumbled inside, breathing heavily, his face pale with panic.
Karlo’s brows instantly knitted together.
"How dare you barge in without permission?" he growled, his voice laced with irritation. "Do you have a death wish?"
Normally, no one would dare interrupt him, especially during a private meeting.
But the subordinate paid no attention to Karlo’s threat.
Still gasping for breath, he hurried toward his boss before bending over, trying to steady himself.
"B-Boss..."
His voice shook violently.
"T-There’s... an emergency..."
Karlo’s expression darkened.
"What happened?" he demanded, his patience already wearing thin.
The man swallowed hard, beads of sweat rolling down his forehead.
"M-Marco..."
The moment Marco’s name left his lips, Karlo felt an inexplicable sense of unease.
"What about Marco?" he asked, his tone turning dangerously cold.
The subordinate hesitated, visibly afraid to deliver the news.
Finally, he forced the words out.
"M-Marco... is dead."
Silence engulfed the entire lounge.
For a brief moment, even the air seemed to freeze.
The warmth vanished from Karlo’s face, replaced by an icy expression that sent chills through the room.
"What... did you just say?"
