Chapter 113: 2nd Attempt XII
For a few grueling, relentless minutes of roaming the outer edge of the arena, his boots smoking and his vision blurring, the golem's continuous flame beam finally sputtered and stopped. The titan's chest heaved as it vented a plume of black exhaust. But instead of resting, the giant immediately shifted its weight, taking a deep, wide-ranged stance, charging up its core to fire a second round of the catastrophic beam. "Not on my watch!" Beaumont roared. He launched himself forward with every ounce of physical strength he had left. The very moment his muddy feet touched a stable section of the ground, he slammed his right palm flat against the jagged floor. He poured a vast, dangerous amount of his remaining mana directly into the bedrock, his amber sigils flaring so bright they cast long, violent shadows against the walls. "Crystal Root Bind!" he yelled. The entire fourth floor quaked with a violent, tectonic shudder. The very moment the shaking stopped, hundreds of massive, crystallized giant roots erupted from the broken ground like a forest of rising krakens. They swept forward with terrifying speed, tearing through the molten glass and stone alike. The crystal roots wrapped tightly around the titan's massive limbs, pinning its arms to its sides, before coiling around its thick neck and pulling its fifty-nine-foot frame upward into an awkward, overextended stretch.
High above the ground, the golem was completely unable to move. It began to thrashed and struggle violently against the binding, but the crystallized roots held firm, glowing with the sheer volume of Beaumont's invested mana. With the monster temporarily secured, Beaumont immediately looked upward toward the vaulted ceiling. He stretched his right hand out, aligning his palm perfectly with the exact angle where his senses picked up the potent, hidden mana wave. The warm amber sigil circles formed instantly, rapidly growing bigger and casting a golden halo across the ceiling. He cast his dismantling spell. A massive twenty-meter radius of the ceiling, precisely where the hidden core was buried beneath the alien electrical lamps, cracked all around with a deafening CRACK. The entire section of the ceiling slid free and dropped straight toward the ground with immense, crushing force. The pinned golem tried to reach out a hand to catch the falling slab, but the crystal roots choked its movement, leaving it helpless. Beaumont maintained absolute control over the falling slab. With a violent downward jerk of his hand, he smashed the massive piece of the ceiling straight into the ground. It shattered into a hundreds of pieces upon impact, throwing up a cloud of debris. As the dust cleared, the true main source was finally revealed: a large, brilliant green crystal core was shimmering brightly among the smoking rubbles. Beaumont got closer, his steps heavy but filled with a renewed, predatory focus as he stared at the exposed heart of the dungeon's construct. He stretched his right hand forward one final time. A dense ring of sigil circles formed around his wrist, pinning the giant green crystal deep into the ground. The ambient earth rose up at his command, holding the field tight around the core to protect it from rolling away. "So long, Golem," Beaumont said, a ragged, exhausted smile breaking through the mud on his face. "It was fun, but now it's over!"
Dozens of sharp, elongated rock javelin drills manifested in the air around him. With a final gesture, he launched them continuously in a relentless, rapid-fire volley. They hit the green crystal core with immense, hammer-like impact. Under the sheer, unyielding pressure of the continuous strikes, the magical field around the crystal began to fracture and break. A split second later, a javelin struck the core dead-center. The green crystal shattered into thousands of dull, harmless fragments. High above the floor, the fifty-nine-foot golem made a low, hollow groan that vibrated through the stone one last time. The sickening green energy pulsing through its veins began to rapidly fade away, sputtering out into nothingness. Without the magic to hold the nightmarish jigsaw puzzle together, every single part of its massive body began to collapse inward, crumbling down into a massive, lifeless hill of basic ash stone and rubble.
Beaumont stood perfectly still, watching as the final remnants of the titan tumbled to the floor. The overwhelming heat began to lift, replaced by the cool, sterile air flowing from the undamaged sections of the ceiling. He let out a deep, shuddering breath and made a long, full-body stretch, twisting his torso until his spine popped. He let out a massive yawn, his joints cracking loudly in the newly returned silence of the vast room."Wooh!" he breathed, trying to ease the lingering tension in his muscles. "Glad that's over." Completely exhausted, he let his legs give out and sat down directly on the bare ground, resting his bruised back against a convenient, three-foot-long jagged rock. He let out a long, ragged sigh, closing his bloodshot hazel eyes for a brief moment. That was a close one, he thought, his heart rate finally beginning to slow down. I honestly thought it would never end.
Within the silent safety of the true fifth floor, Agatha’s eyes drifted away from the mirror for a brief moment as she processed the finale of the fight. "Very impressive," she murmured, her voice carrying a rare note of genuine acknowledgment. "He would have died if he had lost his concentration for even a second and gave out." She paused, her violet eyes locking back onto his muddy, resting figure. "Perhaps you truly do deserve a rest after singly beating a giant fire-skull golem. "A sly, highly entertained smirk slowly returned to her lips. She watched him rest in absolute silence for four minutes straight, tracking every ragged breath he took. Down below, Beaumont finally opened his eyes, pushed himself up slightly, and took out a leather water bag from his pack. He uncorked it and drank deeply, washing the foul taste of smoke and mud from his throat. "Is he about to descend here next?" Agatha whispered, placing her right forefinger playfully against the side of her lips. "That would be nice... but, this is far from over. How about a real warm-up? I have something I've been meaning to try for a while now."
Her playful demeanor vanished, replaced by a sharp, focused intensity. She stepped forward and placed her right palm flat against the smooth surface of the magical mirror. The magic glass rippled like water under her touch as she began to chant a rhythmic incantation, her voice carrying a deep, resonant weight that bypassed the physical boundaries of the floors;
"From deep within the silent clay, I strip the fragile stone away!"
Down on the quieted fourth floor, Beaumont had just lowered his water bag when a clear, melodic feminine voice began echoing directly through the vast stone chamber. The sound didn't come from any specific corner; it resonated from the very air itself. He froze, his combat instincts instantly flaring as he became very cautious. He dropped the water bag, his eyes darting wildly around the empty, ruined arena. But the unseen voice continued its rhythmic, haunting chant:
"Core of iron, heart of brass, Melt the mold and form the mass!"
Before the final syllable could even fade, a sudden, massive appearance of raw, dense mana flooded the chamber. It didn't rise from the ground or drop from the ceiling; it surged outward, actively submerging with the massive pile of debris left behind by the fallen titan golem. Beaumont gritted his teeth, spinning on his heel as he tried to trace exactly where the voice and the staggering volume of mana were coming from. But no matter how hard he pushed his heightened senses, the source remained completely untraceable. The voice echoed again, louder and heavier this time:
"Veins of copper, breathe and bind, Earthly shards leave dust behind!"
Beaumont’s mind raced in pure confusion. What could possibly be responsible for this? Was the dungeon cursed? Was there an intelligent entity pulling the strings from the shadows? He could feel powerful, crushing waves of foreign mana flowing through the space, yet there was no physical caster in sight. At the exact spot where the giant earth golem had just fallen, the massive pile of rubble began to violently agitate. The strong waves of untraceable mana were submerging deeply with the stones, and through his refined earth senses, Beaumont suddenly felt a spike of intense, molten heat radiating from the center of the pile.
What is going on? he thought, his hand dropping toward his waist as his sigils sparked weakly. The feminine voice reached its crescendo, echoing with absolute command:
"Rise from slag, shake loose the rust, Obey my word, for rise you must! My Ironclad!"
Instantly, Beaumont’s survival senses triggered a massive, flashing danger warning. Disregarding his immense fatigue, he forced his aching muscles to lock, dropping low into a tense battle stance against whatever was forming in front of him. From the trembling center of the stone rumbles, a figure emerged. It didn't rise like a clumsy, lumbering monster of jagged rocks. Instead, a sleek, metallic humanoid figure, standing at exactly six feet tall, stepped smoothly out from the wreckage."What the hell is that thing?" Beaumont whispered, his cockiness completely evaporated. Under the clinical, unblinking glare of the electrical lamps, the creature’s surface was pristine. It possessed a smooth, light-reflecting metallic skin that gleamed with a cold, silver brilliance. Moving with an fluid, terrifyingly organic grace, the humanoid smoothly stepped completely out of the range of the giant crystallized roots that had trapped its predecessor, entirely unbothered by the difficult terrain. As it came fully into the light, Beaumont's heart sank. It was a metal golem, built with perfect, lethal proportions. Its left forearm didn't end in a hand; it tapered into an extended, razor-sharp metallic blade that hummed with a concentrated frequency. Beaumont stared at the pristine, agile killing machine, his bloodshot eyes wide with pure exhaustion and disbelief. "Come on, give me a break!" he muttered in a heavy, distasteful tone.
