My Married Roommate Asked Me to Give Her a Baby

Chapter 22 – Finally a Man

After Wendy came out of the shower, neither of them spoke.

The atmosphere became awkward.

She sat on the sofa with her head lowered, using the towel to wipe her wet hair again and again.

Evan gave a dry laugh.

He understood that it was her first time. Of course she would be nervous.

So he jumped down from the bed and walked to her side, sitting beside her with one bold movement. His arm slid around her round shoulder.

"Relax."

"I've never eaten pork, but I've seen pigs run."

"I'll be gentle."

After saying it, he even raised his eyebrows with a wicked smile.

Wendy's face flushed all the way to her neck.

She turned and looked at him, biting her red lip.

"Then... does this make me your girlfriend?"

That question struck Evan silent.

If he said yes, he truly did not have deep feelings for her. They had known each other only a few days.

If he said no, then taking her first time and walking away would make him look like a pure-grade bastard.

For a moment, Evan did not know how to answer.

His eyes turned, and he shamelessly said, "We can first become very close friends."

"As the saying goes, feelings grow with time."

"Shameless."

Wendy pushed him hard, face red.

Evan smoothly changed the topic.

"How was the dorm after you went back? Did Fiona's group bother you again?"

Wendy shook her head. "No. Nobody dared."

"Evan, thank you."

"No need to thank me. We're our own people now."

"Come on. Time is tight. Let's continue our deep study of human engineering."

As he spoke, Evan lowered his head and kissed her.

Wendy made a muffled sound.

This time, she did not push him away.

The towel slipped from her shoulders to the floor.

For one breath, Evan finally understood the meaning of not knowing the mountain until entering it. Wendy's figure was far better than loose shirts and school clothes had suggested. Lean where she should be lean, full where she should be full.

Evan's restraint broke.

He lifted her by the waist and placed her on the soft bed.

Just as things were about to continue, Wendy blushed and stopped him quickly.

"Wait. I have protection in my bag."

Evan froze, then slapped his thigh.

Right.

He was still a poor student. If one careless night created a life, what would he use to raise it? His head?

He hurried to Wendy's bag and found what they needed.

After that, in the narrow motel room, the two crossed the line neither of them could uncross again.

There was nervousness at first, then heat, then a kind of clumsy hunger that kept pulling them back whenever they tried to stop. The city outside the window went quiet. Inside, the night stretched long, filled with tangled breaths, soft protests, and the strange courage of two young people pretending they were not terrified by what they had started.

By the time pale light touched the curtains, the battle finally ended.

While Evan's side burned hot, Mason's side was not idle either.

At a late-night food stall, Mason drank until his face was red and slapped the shoulder of a scar-faced man.

"Cousin, I'm counting on you for this."

The scar-faced man swallowed a mouthful of alcohol.

"Small thing."

"Just some country kid who came to school in the city, right?"

"I'll bring a few brothers over and break his legs."

Mason still felt uneasy and added darkly, "Before you act, make sure you announce the crew's name and scare him properly."

"Otherwise you leave, and that mad dog bites me again."

Scarface sneered.

"Don't worry. When it comes to showing off, your cousin is professional."

"Good. Then I'll wait for the news."

After sending his cousin away, Mason stood by the road and lit a cigarette.

His mouth curled into a cruel smile.

"Evan Carter, if I don't break your legs this time, my name isn't Mason Wong."

The next day, when Evan opened his eyes, it was already noon.

Although it was Monday, freshmen had just started school, and there were no classes scheduled that day.

Evan reached for the charged Nokia on the bedside table and lit the screen.

He nearly jumped.

Seven or eight missed calls plus one unread message.

Evan, where the hell are you? You stayed out all night. Are you coming back or not?

All from Hannah.

Evan's hand shook. He quickly typed a reply.

Hannah, I'm at Wayne's place. We drank a little last night and I fell asleep. Didn't hear the phone.

After sending the message, Evan felt so guilty he immediately held the power button and turned off the phone.

If Hannah called again and started digging, he would die.

The movement woke Wendy, who had been lying against his chest.

After a night of being thoroughly warmed, Wendy's face was flushed and glowing. She looked softer than usual, almost sweet.

Evan smiled wickedly and pinched her smooth cheek. His other hand slid to her waist, then lower, and he gave her a light slap.

Wendy made a shy little sound and pressed her face tightly against his chest like a tame cat.

At this moment, she was completely different from the spicy girl who cursed people on the field.

Evan tasted the memory of the night and rolled over, wanting to pull her close again.

Wendy was startled and quickly pressed both hands against his chest.

"No... no more."

"I promised you one time."

"Last night you already... more than once. Please spare me."

Evan glanced at the bedside table and the scattered evidence around it.

Indeed.

He had been too fierce on his first taste of the forbidden fruit.

"Fine. I'll let you go today."

"Save some strength. Next time, I won't let you off so easily."

"Who said there will be a next time?" Wendy retorted stubbornly.

"I said once, and once means once."

Her mouth was hard, but her legs trembled slightly as she picked up clothes from the floor and went to wash.

Evan leaned against the headboard and lit an after-smoke.

In the drifting smoke, he felt a strange sensation of having transformed from a green boy into a real man.

How to put it?

It was as if a tiny bit of masculine responsibility had suddenly appeared on his shoulders.

Of course, only a tiny bit.

After Wendy finished washing, Evan took a cold shower too.

They dressed properly and left the motel one after another.

Why separately?

Wendy said school had just started, and she was embarrassed someone might see them.

When they met again at the intersection, Evan saw the fatigue on Wendy's face and felt a little guilty.

After all, he had spent the whole night like a plowing ox.

"Come on. My treat. I'll buy you something spicy to restore your strength."

Wendy rolled her eyes.

"You're so generous."

"After a whole night, you're treating me to cheap street food?"

Evan touched his nose awkwardly.

"Fine, fine. I'll take you somewhere proper."

"Order whatever you want."

Unexpectedly, Wendy shook her head.

"Forget it."

"You're a poor student. How much money can you have? Keep it for living expenses."

"We'll just eat something simple up ahead."

Evan was stunned.

He truly had not expected Wendy to be so practical.

If it were some gold-digging girl with looks, she would probably demand steak and expensive meals after a night like that.

Just from this point, Wendy's position in Evan's heart rose several levels.

On the other side of town, Wayne was walking out of the gambling place with two dark circles under his eyes.

The four thousand dollars he had won before had been reduced after treating Evan and himself to fun. He still had more than three thousand left.

Then last night, after a whole night at the tables, he lost every last bit of it.

Wayne crouched by the roadside and smoked gloomily.

The gambler's mind began working again. All he could think about was finding money to win back his capital.

He gritted his teeth, took out his phone, and called his father back home.

"Dad, what are you doing?"

"Selling corn in town. What?"

"School says we need to pay an internal materials fee. Can you transfer five hundred to my card?"

The moment Wayne's father heard money, he exploded.

"What kind of blood-sucking broken school do you attend?"

"Didn't I just send five hundred a few days ago for some dorm fee?"

"Why another five hundred today?"

Wayne lied without blinking.

"Dad, just send it. The school isn't charity. They always find ways to charge us."

"If I don't pay, I can't attend class."

"Fine, fine. You debt-collecting brat."

"After I sell this corn, I'll go to the post office and send it."
