Chapter 9 – Fine, That Was Impressive
When that row of colorful mushrooms stood up, Wayne, who was walking in front, nearly jumped.
"Holy hell."
He grabbed Evan's arm.
"There are so many of them."
"A wise man doesn't take a bad fight. Let's go."
Evan counted coldly.
There were about seven or eight of them.
Different heights.
Different builds.
Same terrible hair.
Wayne felt that in a one-on-one fight, he could handle two.
But if there were too many people and he was surrounded, even he could not take it.
He glanced at Evan.
Evan was about as tall as him, but not as bulky.
Wayne thought they still had to survive in this school.
Maybe lowering their heads and apologizing would be easier.
So he stepped forward and shouted, "Guys..."
He did not finish.
Evan suddenly rushed out from behind him.
"Damn you."
Evan's fist smashed into Pink Hair's face.
Wayne was completely stunned.
Good grief.
No greeting.
No opening line.
Zero-frame attack, ultimate skill immediately.
Pink Hair was also stunned by the punch.
Normally, when people came out to fight, they had to shout a few threats first.
He had never seen someone like Evan.
No talk.
Straight to business.
Although Pink Hair was dazed, the people he brought reacted quickly.
They roared and surrounded Evan.
Wayne instinctively wanted to run.
But seeing Evan surrounded, he hardened his heart, gritted his teeth, and charged in too.
Evan did not indulge these idiots.
They simply had not been beaten by society yet.
After one proper lesson, they would understand why the sun was round.
Jack often told Evan that when fighting, the mind had to be clear.
The eyes could only look for weakness.
What counted as weakness?
The ribs.
The jaw.
The temple.
The soft parts of the human body.
Hit any of those places cleanly, and the other person would lose the will or ability to keep fighting.
So in a fight, the important question was not whether the other side had more people.
The real calculation was whether you could reduce their numbers quickly.
Evan's first punch had landed precisely on Pink Hair's jaw.
That hit made Pink Hair's breath cut off, his eyes roll up, and his body collapse.
Then Green Hair came rushing over, waving his arms wildly.
Evan raised one leg and kicked him hard in the stomach.
Green Hair dropped to his knees at once, clutching his belly, bitter fluid nearly coming out.
The others saw how cruelly Evan struck and hesitated.
But remembering they had more people, they forced themselves forward.
Evan used clean boxing footwork.
Hit and retreat.
Move and counter.
His body was shockingly flexible.
One punch came at him.
He slipped aside easily and answered with a heavy hook.
Four punches total.
Three people down.
Now the situation was simple.
The other side had eight people.
Two had already fallen.
Three more had just been dropped.
Only three remained standing.
Wayne had raised his fists, but he had not even found a chance to swing yet.
He stared in shock.
What the hell?
Evan hit this hard?
That was insane.
The remaining three refused to believe it and rushed in.
There was no suspense.
Evan knocked them down in a few clean movements.
He did not go too far.
He only beat them until they could not get up.
They were still students, after all.
He did not want to create a major disaster.
After the fight, Evan dusted off his hands in disgust.
"Next time you see me, walk around me. Understand?"
After saying that, he did not bother wasting more words.
He grabbed Wayne, who was still frozen, and turned to leave.
He did not want the school guards to arrive and drag them to the discipline office.
Getting punished on the first day would be awful.
Hannah would curse him to death when he got home.
Wayne remained dazed the whole way.
Even after Evan dragged him back to the field, his mind had not fully returned.
"Holy hell. Holy hell."
"Brother, you're ridiculous."
"You trained boxing? One against eight?"
Evan calmly pretended to be deep.
"Only eight. Give me eighty and I'd still handle it."
Wayne knew Evan was bragging, but admiration still filled his face.
He patted Evan's shoulder.
"Amazing. Amazing. Foster father, accept my bow."
"Come on. School gate. Lunch is on me."
Evan thought about it.
After all this trouble, he had not eaten breakfast.
He was hungry.
The two went to a small shop outside the school and ordered two bowls of clay-pot noodles.
They ate and chatted.
"Brother, who taught you to fight like that?"
"Teach me sometime?"
Evan laughed.
"I'd like to teach you. I'm afraid you can't learn it."
That old bastard Jack had never taught Evan anything proper.
Fighting.
Gambling tricks.
Reading faces.
All kinds of street skills and crooked tricks.
Nothing clean.
"That's fine. Teach me a couple of moves for self-defense when you're free," Wayne said eagerly.
After that fight, Evan had gained a little fanboy.
After finishing the noodles, Evan followed Wayne back to the dorm.
As soon as they entered, Wayne embellished what had happened in the woods and told the roommates with great excitement.
"That impressive?"
The other guys immediately became interested.
Someone dragged over a chair.
"To be honest, Wayne, I think you're exaggerating."
"Let Evan arm wrestle me."
"If he can beat me, I'll believe you."
Arm wrestling.
The most useless and beloved game in a male dorm.
Evan smiled.
"Fine. But there has to be a bet."
"No stakes, no interest."
Truthfully, Evan had run out of cigarettes.
He just wanted to win a couple of packs.
The roommate asked, "All right. What are we betting?"
Evan said casually, "We're all broke students. Betting money hurts feelings."
"Cigarettes."
"Place your bets. Hurry up."
"Three cigarettes on him."
"Half a pack."
"One cigarette."
"I'll bet the cigarette butt."
The dorm instantly became lively.
Soon, bets were placed.
In front of Evan and the roommate, cigarettes piled up one by one.
Rules were simple.
Winner took all.
Evan rolled up his sleeve and crouched by the chair.
The roommate set his posture too.
The moment their hands locked, the roommate's heart jumped.
Evan's hand felt like iron tongs.
Hard.
Stable.
And Evan's bones were thick.
Those who knew strength understood that people with thick frames often had terrifying core power.
Sure enough.
The roommate lasted only three seconds.
Bang.
His arm was slammed down onto the chair.
After winning, Evan first paid out the people who had bet on him.
The remaining cigarettes all belonged to him.
Excellent.
Two free packs.
Blood profit.
Evan put the winnings into his pocket.
Before leaving, he generously handed one cigarette to every roommate.
That was called understanding human relationships.
"All right, guys. I don't live in the dorm. I'm leaving first."
Evan said goodbye and went downstairs.
As soon as he walked out of the male dorm building, he ran straight into the fierce girl from the field, the one who kept asking strange private questions.
The moment she saw Evan, her anger flared.
Her eyes widened, and she opened her mouth to curse.
Evan reacted quickly.
He stepped forward and covered her mouth firmly with one hand.
"Enough. Don't curse."
"I don't want to hear it."
