Chapter 5 – What Kind of Problem Is This?
Evan thought:
Damn it.
If she doesn't agree, why are you telling me?
I'm definitely willing. That's not the issue.
Seeing the shock on Evan's face, Rowan hurried to explain.
"What I mean is... find a way to make her willingly have a relationship with you. Do you understand?"
"Make her fall for you."
When Rowan spoke, his face came very close.
Too close.
There was a stubborn, almost obsessive look in his eyes.
Evan asked haltingly, "If... if Hannah never gets pregnant, what happens?"
Rowan let out a heavy sigh.
"If she doesn't get pregnant..."
"You might never see her again in this life."
Rowan refused to explain the reason clearly.
But Evan could tell this matter was very serious for both Rowan and Hannah.
No wonder Hannah had looked worried all day.
The two of them sat on the bed, staring at each other in silence.
More than ten minutes passed.
Only then did Evan grit his teeth.
"Fine. I'll try."
Rowan looked as if a weight had finally been lifted from his chest. He patted Evan hard on the shoulder.
"Evan, if I've reached this point, it's because I really had no other choice."
"I hope you can understand my difficulty."
"If it succeeds, I'll give you a large amount of money."
Evan thought:
What the hell kind of situation was this?
A man asking someone else to sleep with his wife, and paying him on top of it.
How could the world contain something this absurd?
After saying what he wanted to say, Rowan left Evan's room without caring what Evan was thinking.
Only Evan remained, sitting on the bed in a daze.
Actually, the moment he agreed, he regretted it a little.
He did not know how he would face Hannah if something really happened between them.
And the most important point was this:
This was too damn difficult.
Hannah was a proper married woman.
And in name, Evan was only a younger family friend staying in her home.
She was also more mature than him and carried herself like a woman who would never easily lose control.
How could she possibly take the initiative with him?
Wasn't this nonsense?
That night, Evan did not sleep.
He tossed and turned in bed like a pancake on a hot pan.
Yes, he had those kinds of fantasies about Hannah.
In his mind, that was normal.
He was an adult man in his early twenties, full of blood and fire. Having thoughts about a sexy, beautiful woman living under the same roof was not strange.
But actually making a move on Hannah, taking a real step forward?
Evan felt that was harder than climbing to heaven.
Only when dawn came did he finally drift off.
It felt like he had barely slept when someone knocked on his door.
After knocking for a while and hearing no answer, Hannah opened the door and came in.
She saw Evan still asleep.
"Evan, get up and eat. Sleep again after breakfast."
Evan rubbed his eyes in a daze and sat up.
Harbor City was hot, and women dressed lightly at home.
Hannah was no exception.
She wore a pair of extremely short fitted denim shorts on the bottom.
On top, she wore a tight white camisole.
Anyone with eyes knew white made curves more obvious.
The moment Evan opened his eyes, he felt as if two full, pale curves were swaying right in front of him.
He rubbed his eyes and woke up a little more.
"What's wrong?" Hannah asked. "Are you feeling sick?"
"Why did you sleep until now?"
Hannah naturally sat on the edge of his bed and reached out with her soft white hand to touch his forehead.
As she bent forward, Evan's eyes betrayed him and slipped downward.
Damn.
The view inside that neckline was deeper than the Mariana Trench.
But Evan only dared to swallow quietly and quickly shift his gaze away.
He did not dare to look for long.
After checking his temperature, Hannah touched her own forehead to compare.
"No fever."
Evan quickly covered his embarrassment.
"I'm fine, Hannah."
"I had a nightmare last night. After waking up, I couldn't sleep, so I only dozed off near morning."
"All right. Then hurry and eat."
Hannah stood up, stepped into her slippers, and walked out with two long pale legs flashing beneath those tiny shorts.
Evan sat on the bed for a long time.
The magnificent Mariana Trench from a moment ago still refused to leave his mind.
After washing up, Evan went to the dining room and sat across from Hannah for breakfast.
"Where's Rowan?" Evan asked casually.
"He's on a business trip. He'll be gone for several days."
"Oh."
"You start school the day after tomorrow, right?" Hannah asked.
"Yeah. Starting school is good. Staying home every day is boring."
Hannah put down her cup and looked at him.
"From now on, you'll go to school with me every morning."
"Huh? Why?"
"Because I work at your school too."
"What? Hannah, you're a teacher?"
Hannah nodded. "Yes. I'm an adviser in your department."
"Damn, what a coincidence."
"Nonsense. Why else would Jack trust me enough to let you stay here?"
Hannah spoke to him with the seriousness of someone giving real advice.
"Even if it's only a trade college, you still need to study properly."
"Learning a skill is better than knowing nothing."
"The world is changing. People with practical skills will always have something to eat."
"Got it, Hannah."
After breakfast, Evan sensibly cleaned up the dishes.
He even mopped the floor.
While he mopped, Hannah leaned lazily on the sofa.
Her two straight legs rested casually on the coffee table while she cracked sunflower seeds and watched television.
Evan mopped the floor.
His eyes kept drifting toward those pale, dazzling legs.
Ever since Rowan had spoken to him the night before, Evan looked at Hannah differently.
How was he supposed to make Hannah take the initiative with him?
This was too hard.
Harder than getting into a top university.
Hannah had a husband, and Evan could see that she loved Rowan.
On top of that, Evan was staying in her home and was, in name, a younger family friend.
Even if the connection was thin enough to snap in the wind, there was still a line in his heart he could not easily cross.
Annoying.
So annoying.
Rowan, Rowan, how did you throw such a huge problem onto me?
