CHAPTER 55: The Trapped Hunters
(ARC 3: THE FINAL COUNTDOWN & DEEP-SPACE WAR PREPARATIONS)
The sky above the Central Plains split open as twenty massive, beetle-like Vorathian Harvester Ships broke through the lower cloud layer. Behind them, fifty thousand heavy iron drop-pods rained down like a meteor shower, slamming into the fertile grasslands with bone-rattling impacts.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Hydraulic steam hissed into the afternoon air as the drop-pods unsealed. Out poured tens of thousands of cybernetically augmented mutant beasts—four-legged obsidian razorscales, acidic flesh-corroders, and towering eight-eyed heavy brutes clad in alien alloy armor.
At the center of the landing zone, Vanguard Commander Zael—a eight-foot-tall Vorathian warlord with four muscular arms and chitinous red armor—stepped off the ramp of the lead Harvester Ship. He drew a glowing plasma-blade, his yellow reptile eyes sweeping over the quiet, open plains.
"Commander!" an alien lieutenant chittered, adjusting his wrist scanner. "Scanners show no heavy defensive fortifications within fifty miles! Just open land and a handful of primitive human signatures standing near that stone monument!"
Zael let out a harsh, clicking laugh. "The Solari puppets spoke the truth! These primitive cattle haven't even developed energy shields. Spread the hunting packs! Harvest every native within five hundred miles and begin setting up the preliminary terraforming anchors!"
GRRRRRR-ROAAR!
Fifty thousand mutant beasts surged forward like an endless, ravenous black tide, their claws tearing through the dirt, eager to taste human flesh.
A mile away from the landing zone, standing atop a small grassy Knoll, stood Ethan and Elena.
Behind them stood just three hundred young men and women from the Fire Spire of the Pentagon Association. They wore lightweight navy-and-silver tactical coats, standing in absolute, motionless silence. None of them had drawn their weapons; none of them showed even a flicker of fear.
Ethan rested his linen-wrapped wooden spear shaft over his shoulder, watching the fifty thousand alien beasts roaring toward them. He took a bite out of a sweet spirit-apple, chewing casually before looking over at his sister.
"Look at them, Elena," Ethan chuckled softly. "They really brought fifty thousand beasts and thought they were going on a stroll in the park."
Elena adjusted her azure sword sash, her sharp eyes cool and distant. "Dad said to let them commit their ground troops before we seal the sector. Keep your dragon physique under wraps for now, Ethan. Just use standard Fire Spire routines so their orbital reconnaissance thinks we're struggling."
"Right, right," Ethan grinned, tossing his apple core aside. "Gotta make it look believable for the aliens watching from space."
Ethan stepped to the edge of the Knoll, raising his wooden spear shaft.
"Fire Spire Vanguard!" Ethan’s voice boomed softly, carrying to the three hundred students behind him. "Standard defensive grid! Show our guests how House Sterling welcomes uninvited visitors!"
BOOOOOM!
The front rank of ten thousand mutant razorscales reached the base of the Knoll, snapping their razor-sharp jaws toward the human students!
"FIRE SPIRE—CONVERGENT FLAME ARRAYS!"
The three hundred students drew their standardized flame-sabers in perfect, synchronized unison.
SWOOOOOOSH—BOOM!
A concentrated, three-hundred-foot wall of roaring, multi-colored spirit fire erupted from their blades! The heat was so intense it instantly turned the soil to red-hot glass!
SCREECH—BANG!
The lead wave of ten thousand mutant beasts didn't even touch the base of the hill—they were vaporized into black ash in less than two seconds!
Up on the ramp of his Harvester Ship, Vanguard Commander Zael froze, his four yellow eyes widening in utter, paralyzed shock!
"W-WHAT?!" Zael shrieked, his voice cracking. "A primitive squad of three hundred cattle wiped out ten thousand razorscales in one strike?!"
Before Zael could process what had happened—
BZ—ZZZ-T!
High above the clouds, a massive, golden-and-azure spatial boundary deployed by Gabriel silently sealed the surrounding fifty-mile perimeter! The communication signals coming from the Vanguard ships were instantly severed, cutting off all real-time video feeds to the Vorathian Flagship waiting in deep orbit!
Down on the Knoll, Ethan took off his linen wraps from his wooden spear, revealing the glowing, gold-tempered dragon runes etched along the shaft. His dark eyes flared with a scorching, world-shaking dragon heat as he looked down at the remaining forty thousand terrified alien beasts.
"Alright guys," Ethan grinned, his posture shifting into an aggressive, mountain-crushing stance. "The room is sealed. Time to clear the trash."
