Reborn in hell with a skill creation system

Chapter 82: The Siege of Nadir-Four

The space surrounding the Nadir Reach did not possess the serene, silvery mist of the open void. It burned with a sickly, bruised magenta, a side effect of the Crucible Star’s siphon array tearing away the upper atmospheric layers of Nadir-Four.

From the observation bridge of the Horizon Spire, the target world looked like a dying ember.

Massive, thread-like tendrils of dark crimson energy extended from the dark belly of a artificial moon-sized super-fortress, anchoring directly into the tectonic plates of Nadir-Four. With every rhythmic pulse of the engine, vast sheets of glowing blue soul-mist were forcibly dragged upward from the planet’s surface, channeled into the fortress’s central collector ring where they were condensed into liquid mana blocks.

"Atmospheric degradation is at seventy-two percent," Echo reported, her fingers flying across a floating loom of pure golden code. "The planet’s planetary core is destabilizing under the kinetic pull. Local population count: two point nine billion. Unintegrated, unstructured, and currently suffering severe soul-shear."

"Vanguard ships report position," Mael commanded, his hands resting on the white stone helm.

"The Iron Will and Seraph’s Grace have dropped out of drift on our port flank," Seraph called up from the lower tactical deck. Her violet flame wings were flared wide, casting sharp, angular shadows across the deck plating. "Commander Velok is spooling the first Soul Forge anchor payload. The Forge-Master is holding high orbit to intercept any long-range interceptors."

Beside Mael, Zara leaned over a brass-bound tactical map, her dark eyes tracking the defense grid of the Crucible Star. "He isn’t even deploying a defensive fleet," she noted, her tone laced with cool contempt. "The Red Sovereign considers this a routine harvest. He hasn’t raised his kinetic shields, only the collection field."

"Then let’s break his breakfast," Wrath growled. He stood on the forward bow, his heavy boot resting on the steel gunwale, his massive nether-cleaver resting across his shoulder like a logger’s axe.

Mael felt the tether of his Stage 5 architecture hum in tune with the four ships around him. Through the covenant network, he could feel the faint, chaotic fear of the three billion souls below, a vast, drowning ocean of terrified minds who had no concept of the system, the throne, or the unwritten law. They only knew that their sky was bleeding and their children were fading into light.

"Echo, broad-spectrum projection," Mael instructed, his voice dropping into that deep, resonant tone that carried the physical weight of seventeen integrated nodes. "Target all sapient minds within the Nadir-Four orbital ring."

"Frequency open," Echo replied instantly. "You are live across the entire localized consciousness spectrum, Sovereign."

Mael didn’t shout. He didn’t issue an ultimatum to the monster steering the world-eater. He spoke directly to the people on the ground.

"People of Nadir," Mael’s voice echoed across every valley, city, and subterranean shelter on the burning planet below, sounding not like a thunderclap, but like a warm, clear bell rung in a quiet room. "You do not know us, and you did not ask for this war. A predator sits in your sky, claiming your lives as his property. Under the First Law of the Unwritten Realm, no soul may be claimed without consent. We cannot fight this battle for you unless you choose to stand with us."

On the planet’s surface, millions of pale, six-limbed beings looked up from the crumbling ruins of their cities, listening to the voice echoing in their minds.

"We offer you a covenant," Mael continued, his golden-shadow runes flaring to life along his arms, pulsing through the ship’s hull directly into the Vanguard anchor ships. "Not of servitude, not of worship, but of shared strength. If you choose to accept, touch the earth beneath your feet and declare your intent to live free. We will handle the rest."

A single beat of silence hung over the cosmos.

Then, the tactical map on the Horizon Spire exploded with light.

It did not begin as a trickle; it was a tidal wave. Down on Nadir-Four, a single young worker in a subterranean shelter pressed her palm against the warm dirt and whispered a single word of agreement. A second later, ten thousand others joined her. Within thirty seconds, two billion distinct soul-signatures flared from dark grey to brilliant, blazing gold.

"Payloads away!" Commander Velok’s voice boomed over the comms link as the Iron Will fired three massive, needle-like orbital anchors directly into the planet’s northern, equatorial, and southern poles.

The moment the anchors struck the soil, the chaotic, defenseless soul-mist of Nadir-Four was instantly hard-coded into the seventeen-sphere network matrix. The soft, vulnerable energy the Red Sovereign’s siphon was pulling upward suddenly acquired the structural density of a star.

A deafening, metallic screech echoed across the void as the Crucible Star’s crimson siphon array overloaded.

The heavy harvesting tendrils, designed to skim soft, unanchored mana, were suddenly forced to pull against the combined spiritual weight of twenty integrated worlds. The massive crimson collector ring at the front of the super-fortress buckled under the immense strain, exploding into a cascade of white-hot plasma and shattered alloy.

"Siphon backfire confirmed!" Echo shouted, her voice bright with victory. "The Red Sovereign’s collection grid has collapsed! He’s taking heavy internal damage across Sectors One through Four!"

Far across the orbital plane, the colossal, moon-sized fortress shuddered violent. The sickly crimson light surrounding it flickered, replaced by deep, dark red alarm strobes.

From the belly of the damaged fortress, thousands of sleek, needle-nosed fighter craft spewed forth like angry hornets from a burning nest, the Iron Sanguine vanguard, moving into intercept formation.

At the same time, a massive holographic projection flared to life in the void directly between the two fleets.

It was a man, or what remained of one. The Red Sovereign was a towering, gaunt figure encased in thick armor made of dark, polished brass and dried blood. His face was obscured by a metal mask shaped into a screaming mouth, and his eyes burned with the pale, sickly yellow glow of a corrupted administrator core.

"Insolent parasites!" the Red Sovereign’s voice thundered through the void, distorted by centuries of unchecked authority and greed. "Who dares tamper with the harvest of the First Crucible? These cattle belong to the Imperial Reserve! I am the administrator of this sector!"

Mael walked slowly to the very front of the Horizon Spire’s bow, stepping out onto the open platform alongside Wrath and Seraph. His dark wool coat whipped in the solar wind, his gold-flecked eyes fixed on the towering hologram of the tyrant.

"The era of administrators is over," Mael said calmly, his voice easily cutting through the thunder of the Sovereign’s rage. "And these people are no longer cattle. They are citizens of the Unwritten Realm."
