Chapter 426 - 412: On the Train
It was just as Yun Jiao had said: crying at someone’s birthday party was terribly bad luck.
In the end, Sun Shuzhen didn’t dare to cry.
But inwardly, her hatred for Yun Jiao only grew.
When Elder Xu also came over to subtly and not-so-subtly back Yun Jiao up, she didn’t dare say a word. She could only poke Su Kangcheng repeatedly with her hand.
What could Su Kangcheng say? It wasn’t just the three siblings who had been there earlier—other people had witnessed it too. His own daughter had been the one to call someone a pig and then run her mouth off.
He was utterly humiliated.
"All right, stop crying."
All he could do for now was comfort the still-crying Su Nian.
He hurriedly left with his wife and daughter.
After Mrs. Xu smoothed things over with the guests with a smile, she turned and shot a glare at Mr. Xu.
"Look at the kind of friends you keep. I won’t even get into that petty streak of Sun Shuzhen’s, but just look at what she’s turned her daughter into! Don’t let her come looking for my son anymore. I don’t want her being a bad influence on him."
Utterly classless.
If you asked her, Su Kangcheng was blind, too.
His first wife had been so wonderful—such a gentle and gracious person. And what happened? He threw away a perfectly good lady from a respectable, scholarly family and even had an affair during the marriage.
A truly ungrateful wretch.
Mr. Xu quickly forced a smile. "It’s just that we’re business partners, and we were old classmates. It would be awkward to just cut ties with him all of a sudden."
Mrs. Xu glared at him. "You’d better watch your own back. Don’t let him screw you over."
In her eyes, Su Kangcheng was just a low-character, ungrateful wretch.
It’s one thing for him to have poor character, but the wife he found is no better. And look how they’ve raised their daughter.
Su Nian and Sun Shuzhen’s actions hardly affected Yun Jiao and her brothers, however.
Yun Xiao Liu admitted he was chubby, but he wasn’t self-conscious about it. He was a firm believer in the ’happy-go-lucky and plump’ philosophy.
He didn’t take Su Nian’s words to heart at all.
He called it being cute. His master and classmates all said he was adorably chubby, and they were all very fond of him.
"Yun Jiao, are you okay?"
Xu Rong and a few other kids came over as soon as they heard what happened.
They had been busy with games boys tended to prefer, like playing general on imaginary horses.
Yun Jiao had been taken to be introduced to people, so she hadn’t been with them.
But in their hearts, they already saw Yun Jiao as their leader. How could they not come to back her up when she was being bullied?
Unfortunately, by the time they arrived, it was all over.
When they heard Yun Xiao Liu and the others recount what had happened, one of the little girls huffed.
"Su Nian again? She’s the worst!"
"One time, we were playing together, and she started crying just because I wouldn’t give her my toy. She didn’t say a word, just cried and cried. It made me look like I was the one bullying her, and my mom even gave me a lecture!"
I still get mad just thinking about it.
Other children also complained about Su Nian being a crybaby and a tattletale.
In truth, these were all things Sun Shuzhen had taught her.
She herself had relied on that very trick—crying, playing the damsel in distress, and acting like she was holding something back—to win over Su Kangcheng.
So, she passed these lessons on to her own daughter.
But she never stopped to consider that while this trick might work on some adults—after all, Su Nian had a cute face, and her tears could certainly tug at a grown-up’s heartstrings—it was just plain annoying to the children she played with.
Kids don’t have such complicated minds. When they get together, it’s to have fun.
What kid wants to play with someone who bursts into tears at the drop of a hat and loves tattling to get them in trouble?
As a result, Su Nian didn’t exactly have a good reputation among her peers.
Very few of them liked her.
The children huddled together to complain about Su Nian for a bit, then dragged Yun Jiao and her two brothers off to play games with them.
After Elder Xu’s birthday banquet ended, everyone went home.
In the end, Sun Shuzhen’s plans came to nothing.
Elder Xu later went back to Sea City with Yun Jiao and her family. After running into a wall several times, Sun Shuzhen had no choice but to come up with a different plan.
But none of this had anything to do with Yun Jiao. At that moment, she was busy comforting her Sixth Brother.
Because it was time for them to leave, Yun Xiao Liu, dressed like a little round ball, had come to see them off. He was hugging Yun Jiao and holding Yun Xiao Ba’s hand, bawling his eyes out.
"Sixth Brother, your school break is coming up soon, and then you’ll be home too. Don’t cry, okay?"
Yun Xiao Liu sniffled. "But I’ll miss you guys so much! Can’t you really wait for my break so we can all go back together?"
Yun Jiao said, "Mother and the others already sent a telegram urging us to come home."
Yun Xiao Liu sniffled. "Okay... Well, you guys be safe, then."
Yun Chen Nan patted the back of his head. "All right, stop being such a baby."
Yun Xiao Liu pouted.
It was already snowing in the Capital. You’d never see a snowfall this heavy in Sea City.
