Chapter 241 - 136: Waiting for You
"The Anyang Traffic Management Bureau is pretty mischievous."
Su Ran smiled.
To be honest, if he’d had a bike before he turned eighteen, he would’ve been dying to join a racing team. But now that he’s past eighteen, he feels that kind of thrilling sport just isn’t for him anymore. He’d rather play it safe.
He had, however, heard about the Anyang motorcycle clubs. They were broke.
’I’m not joining.’
...
「The next day at noon.」
Su Ran stood at the school gate with the other parents, waiting for the students to emerge. Mrs. Ning had originally planned to come, but Su Ran called and told her that Wenwen had asked him to wait for her. After chiding that "silly girl" for a moment, Mrs. Ning decided not to come. She just told Su Ran, "I’m going to buy groceries and cook. Pick up Wenwen and then come over for lunch."
’The Nings are really good people.’
Sigh...
’Everyone around me seems so nice.’
’It’s making me nervous. If Ning Wenwen wants to be my girlfriend when she turns eighteen, what am I supposed to do?’
The morning language arts exam ended. As Wenwen walked out of the school gate with a few classmates, they all talked about how hard the test was. Then she saw Su Ran leaning against his motorcycle, chatting with a beautiful woman with long legs.
Wenwen subconsciously glanced down at her own ’short little legs’ and scoffed inwardly. ’So he just likes long legs, is that it?’
’A cute little sister like me can’t compete with a sexy woman?’
’Cute is worthless in the face of sexy.’
"Su Ran."
Wenwen shouted, pointedly leaving off the word ’brother.’ She walked right up and looped her arm through Su Ran’s, as if staking her claim.
"So, Su Ran, this must be your little sister. She’s so cute!"
The long-legged woman was completely charmed by Wenwen’s cuteness and reached out to pinch her chubby pink cheeks.
Wenwen dodged her hand, but Su Ran couldn’t resist reaching out and giving her cheek a little pull himself. "She is pretty cute."
"Ow! I hate you! You’re gonna make them bigger!"
"’Bye, Su Ran! Let’s get dinner sometime," the woman said with a smile before walking away.
Wenwen watched the woman walk away, swaying her shapely hips. ’That’s a walk I could never learn,’ she thought.
"Who is she?"
"Nobody."
"Come on, tell me who she is."
Su Ran just smiled and put the helmet on her head. "Just one of the atmosphere staff from the bar."
"Oh... no wonder..." ’No wonder she walked so seductively, she’s part of the atmosphere staff,’ Wenwen thought to herself. She knew Su Ran and Lin Che had opened a bar together, but she’d never been. Su Ran wouldn’t let her go. And while she was curious about what a bar was like, she believed in doing things appropriate for her age. She wouldn’t go to a place like that; the furthest she’d go was singing at a karaoke bar.
"Get on."
"Mhm."
Wenwen hopped on the back of the bike and wrapped her arms tightly around Su Ran’s waist. Su Ran revved the engine, and the motorcycle shot away from the crowd with a WHOOSH. Some of Wenwen’s classmates watched in envy. To have a ’brother’ like that... he spoiled her so much. He was a complete fanatic when it came to doting on his sister.
’Having a girl on the back really slows you down.’
’Of course, Su Ran didn’t have a single impure thought. He wasn’t some kind of animal, right?’
They stopped at a red light, and a couple of riders on bikes next to them noticed the Kawasaki H2 with a girl on the back. They started chatting excitedly, especially about the super cute girl riding pillion. ’Sigh, what can you do? The guy’s got a Kawasaki H2,’ one thought. ’If I had an H2, I’d have a girl on the back too.’
"’Wait, Old Wang, doesn’t that bike look like the one from Ao Mountain?’ one of them finally realized."
The man called Old Wang lifted his visor for a closer look. "I think you’re right... Hey! Hey, buddy—"
Just then, the light turned green. Su Ran twisted the throttle and took off.
"’After him!’"
VROOOM...
The two bikes came up to flank him on either side. Su Ran glanced in his rearview mirror. "Hold on tight."
"Mhm." Wenwen nodded, tightening her grip on Su Ran’s waist and pressing her head against his back. The world around them blurred into a fleeting streak; they were going incredibly fast.
The two of them couldn’t keep up with the Kawasaki—it was simply too fast. So, they took a shortcut down Binhe Road, planning to cut him off and lie in wait at the next intersection.
Su Ran thought he’d lost them, but a moment later he saw them waiting for him up ahead.
"Sigh..."
’This is ridiculous.’
He slowed down, coasting to a stop with the front of his bike facing theirs.
Su Ran took off his helmet. "Why are you guys blocking me?"
When the two saw Su Ran was actually a handsome guy, their eyes lit up. Old Wang went up and introduced himself. Just as Lin Che had said, they were desperate for Su Ran to join them, lead them to a championship, and secure their title as the kings of Anyang.
"...So, handsome, are you interested?"
"I’ll think about it. I really don’t have time for this today. My sister needs to get home for lunch, so if you’ll excuse us."
"Here’s my card. If you change your mind, give me a call. We’d be thrilled to have you. You could bring glory to Anyang!"
"...Okay."
Su Ran took the business card and put it away. The two riders moved aside, and Su Ran rode off, heading back to his parking spot at the apartment complex.
"Did that guy just say you’re the champion of Anyang?"
Wenwen’s face was filled with adoration—the classic look of a little sister idolizing her amazing older brother. This was prime material for bragging to her friends: "My Su Ran is just so incredible..." For a young girl, the unspoken rule was clear: ’I can be a nobody, but my brother has to be a legend.’
"I accidentally stumbled into their race on my way home. I was just trying to get out of their way and head home, but I somehow ended up winning."
"What a humble-brag. So, are you going to join them?"
"I’m considering it."
「At Wenwen’s home.」
Once inside, Wenwen shouted toward the kitchen, "Mom, we’re back!" then collapsed onto the sofa.
"Did you do well on the exam?"
"Great! I got first place in the whole city."
"Oh, you," Mrs. Ning said, shooting Wenwen a look. She then turned to Su Ran. "Xiaosu, make yourself comfortable. I’m just finishing up in the kitchen."
"Is Mr. Ning not coming home for lunch?"
"He’s at work. He can’t make it back for lunch."
Mr. and Mrs. Ning were an ordinary family, doing their best to support their daughter’s education.
"Let me help."
Su Ran rolled up his sleeves, washed his hands, and went into the kitchen to help.
