Chapter 147 - 105: The Moon Rises with the Tide at Sea
BEEP BEEP BEEP.
An angry voice message arrived from Liu Jinyu: [You’ve really gone too far. Five friendship matches... You’re not getting another chance tonight. Everything’s swollen.]
Su Ran: [Where?]
Liu Jinyu: [Guess.]
Su Ran: [How about I have Yiren take a taxi back to the hotel, and I come back to take a look?]
Liu Jinyu: [No, no, no! Don’t you dare come back. I’m afraid of you. Just let me rest for a bit.]
...
「At the airport.」
Su Ran met Xie Yiren at the Spring Airlines arrivals area. She was dressed simply in a T-shirt and shorts, carrying a suitcase that held two jars of honey.
"So this is my sweetener?"
"That’s right. One jar is for the road, and the other is for the cell tower. Uh..."
Xie Yiren felt incredibly embarrassed. Two jars of honey in exchange for an investment of tens, or even hundreds, of millions for roads and cell towers. It was far too little. But she wouldn’t dare say what she was really thinking: ’If that’s not enough, you can have me, too. I’m willing to sacrifice for my people and make the Saintess not so saintly anymore.’
Back in the car, Su Ran opened a jar, dipped a finger in, and tasted the honey. "Wow, that’s sweet. It’s the real deal."
"Mhm, mhm! It’s very authentic honey, made from all the different flowers and trees in our tribe’s lands. I gathered it all for you myself."
Su Ran noticed a red, swollen spot on her right hand—a bee sting.
"Does it hurt? If I’d known it would be this much trouble, I wouldn’t have asked for the honey. Now you’ve gone and gotten stung."
"No, no, the swelling is already going down. It doesn’t hurt at all."
Su Ran didn’t reach out to take her hand and examine the sting. He was close with the other three women, but he and Xie Yiren hadn’t even kissed yet, so it felt inappropriate. Of course, carrying her to her room when she was drunk was another matter entirely.
"In that case, I’ll be sure to treasure this honey. Yiren, don’t worry. I said I’d help you with the road and the cell tower, and I’ll see it through."
"Mhm. You’re a really good person, Su Ran."
"Oh, right, this DR Necklace is for you. I bought them for all of you, so don’t read too much into it. Each of you gets one. Consider it my National Day gift."
"Can you put it on for me?"
"Sure."
Su Ran put it on for her. Huh?
Xie Yiren asked, "What’s wrong?"
Su Ran said, "The necklace disappeared."
Xie Yiren’s face flushed red, the necklace having vanished completely into her cleavage. "Believe it or not, I’ll put a hex on you."
"Heh."
BEEP BEEP BEEP. A call came in from Xiao Wanqing. Since Su Ran was driving and couldn’t answer, Xie Yiren picked up. "Hello? ... Mhm... Yeah... Mmm... Okay..."
Su Ran: ???
’What in the world were those sounds?’
"Bye-bye." After hanging up, Xie Yiren looked at Su Ran. "What’s the matter with you?"
Su Ran: "Nothing. Ahem. So, why did Wanqing call?"
"She was asking where we were. I told her we’re on our way and that she should go on ahead to the hotel."
"Okay."
...
Meanwhile, Xiao Wanqing arrived back at the hotel and swiped her key card to enter the room. She let out a theatrical shriek as two "wicked women" pounced on her and dragged her into the bedroom for an inspection.
A moment later, she walked out, indignant. "Are you satisfied now? I told you nothing happened, but you two morons still didn’t believe me. Wait..." Xiao Wanqing thought her eyes were playing tricks on her. She leaned in for a closer look. "Where did you get those DR Necklaces?"
"From Su Ran."
"My little bro gave it to me."
"You both got one?"
"Yep. He said he bought four of them."
"..."
Xiao Wanqing was floored. ’I thought mine was special, but it turns out he bought them in bulk.’
Wait a minute...
"Does yours have a special meaning?"
"What special meaning?"
"You know, what DR stands for? For mine..." After Xiao Wanqing’s rapid-fire explanation, Liu Jinyu just said, "Oh," and shook her head. "We didn’t get one of those. Ours are for normal, healthy people. No ’rub more’ meaning for us."
Aina added, "But could it have another meaning? Something Su Ran is trying to hint at?"
The room fell silent as they thought...
One second.
Ten seconds.
Half a minute.
Holy crap...
The three women exchanged looks, their expressions turning to shock and then anger. Aina was the first to voice the thought, "Could ’D’ stand for ’All’?"
Xiao Wanqing whispered in horror, "And ’R’ for...’Do’?"
Liu Jinyu slammed a fist on the table. "This is intolerable! Don’t say anything yet. Wait for Yiren to get here. Once we’re on the boat, we’ll come up with a plan to trick that stinky little brother and find out if he really has such wicked ideas."
Aina nodded. "Works for me. If that’s really what he meant, we’ll throw him in the sea to feed the sharks."
Xiao Wanqing said, "Sharks don’t eat people."
Aina shot back, "Who cares if they do or not? Are you trying to be a contrarian? It’s just a threat! Hey, wait a second..." Aina reached out and gave Xiao Wanqing’s chest a squeeze. "Does it feel... bigger?"
Liu Jinyu’s eyes lit up. "You know, I think it is. What have you been taking?"
Xiao Wanqing coughed. "Ahem, I don’t know. Maybe your little brother’s hands have some kind of Magic?"
Liu Jinyu: ...
Aina scoffed. "My time to shine is coming! I’m going to be a confident woman!"
Liu Jinyu snapped, "You two can get the hell out."
The three of them were fooling around until Xie Yiren called to say she’d arrived at the hotel entrance. They finally stopped, grabbed their supplies, went downstairs, got in the car, and set off.
Su Ran glanced at Xiao Wanqing in the rearview mirror. "Sister Wanqing."
Xiao Wanqing replied, "Don’t talk to me. I’m mad."
Su Ran asked, "Why are you mad?"
Aina laughed. "Someone thought her DR necklace was one-of-a-kind, but it turns out you bought them in bulk! Hahaha!"
Su Ran said, "Sorry, I guess I didn’t explain it clearly. I didn’t mean for you to get the wrong idea. How about this? Tell me what you want, and I’ll make it up to you next time."
Xiao Wanqing pointed casually toward the sky. "I want a star. Go pluck one from the sky for me."
Su Ran glanced up through the sunroof for a moment, then turned back and said, "Don’t worry. I promise I’ll put a star in your hands!"
Xiao Wanqing: ???
...
「By the sea.」
After parking at the marina, the man and four women chatted and laughed as they carried their luggage aboard the yacht.
Su Ran said, "I’m heading to the bridge. Why don’t you all go pick out your favorite bikinis?"
The four women: ...
Su Ran smiled and walked to the bridge. His license was already sitting on the console. It was an impressive document; after all, a Skill granted by the System would never be stingy. This license allowed him to pilot any civilian vessel, with the sole exception of military warships.
WHOOOOOMP~
With a blast from its horn, the massive luxury yacht sailed out of the harbor, heading toward the afterglow of the setting sun...
