Chapter 133: How to Get Rich
After dinner, the Gu Family took advantage of the free water, boiling it so they could each take a bath.
Gu Fei found a quiet spot in the courtyard to sit down, and her mind began to wander.
’Once we get to Ping’an City, how is our family going to make a living?’
’Glass? I don’t know how to make it.’
’Soap? I don’t know how to make it.’
’Cement? I don’t know how to make that either.’
’Why did I have to be a liberal arts major in my past life!’
’If I’d known this would happen, I would’ve collected some relevant books.’
The thought of books sparked an idea. Besides her textbooks, she remembered that she had casually tossed some other books into her space one time when she passed a bookstore.
During the apocalypse, there were no movies, no TV, and definitely no short-form videos. To pass the time, she would read romance novels about domineering CEOs.
Gu Fei sent her consciousness into her space and began frantically rummaging through the pile of books.
’Damn it! Besides the domineering CEO novels, it’s all just stories about a billionaire’s runaway bride, pregnant with his child. Nothing original at all.’
Just as she was about to give up, she found a thin booklet tucked inside, though she had no idea how it got there. A few large words were printed on the cover: *Pearl Artificial Cultivation*.
Gu Fei threw her head back and roared with laughter inside her space. She could almost see shimmering pearls waving at her, promising she’d soon strike it rich and reach the pinnacle of her life.
She quickly flipped open the booklet, and the smile slowly faded from her face.
She recognized every word, but it might as well have been a Heavenly Book.
Besides, the cultivation cycle for the pearl mussels wasn’t short. At best, it would take over a year to see any profit; at worst, two or three years.
Gu Fei tossed the book aside and squatted in her space, fretting.
Her gaze fell upon the remaining half-box of fruit, and her eyes lit up again. ’I can grow apples!’
’Apples haven’t been introduced to the Da Ying Dynasty yet. If I grow them, I won’t have to worry about a lack of customers!’
But her spirits fell just as quickly. ’The growth cycle for fruit trees is even longer. They won’t bear fruit for at least four or five years. If we wait that long, the whole family will have starved to death!’
Gu Fei was starting to lose her mind. Her gaze drifted aimlessly around her space.
Finally, her eyes landed on a bag of dried red chili peppers.
Gu Fei shot to her feet. She knew what to do!
’Grow chili peppers!’
’Dried red chilies have seeds in them. Even though they’ve been in the space for a long time, based on its time-freezing properties, the seeds should still be viable.’
’Besides, chili peppers have a short growth cycle. They can be harvested in just a few months, you can plant two crops a year, and you can get multiple harvests from each crop.’
’The old ladies in my apartment complex used to grow them downstairs. It seemed like they barely took care of them, and the plants still produced peppers.’
An idea formed, and Gu Fei’s consciousness snapped back from her space. The moment she opened her eyes, she saw a finger hovering right in front of her face, so close it nearly touched her eyelashes.
Gu Fei jerked her head back and saw Su Chen, his face slightly flushed. He took a step back, awkwardly pulling his hand away.
"I—I called your name a few times, but you didn’t answer. I thought you were asleep."
’So if I’m asleep, that means you can poke me?’
Grumbling inwardly, Gu Fei forced a smile and stood up. "I was just thinking about something. I didn’t hear you call, Young Master Su."
"Did you need something, Young Master?"
Su Chen placed a hand over his lips and gave a light cough. "It’s nothing. I just wanted to thank you. The meal tonight was delicious."
Gu Fei smiled. "You’re too kind, Young Master." With that, she gave Su Chen a small curtsy, then turned briskly and went back into the inn.
Su Chen watched her retreating back, feeling a bit frustrated.
He realized it had been the same way last time. He had barely said a word to her before she walked away.
’Is she avoiding me?’
’Why?’
