Chapter 33: Dragon Ascendancy Civilization (3)
Looking below, he saw people being slaughtered by a tide of beasts.
The tide consisted of enormous hyenas with crimson-red fur covered in dark patches. Their saber-like fangs resembled those of a saber-toothed tiger.
Both their numbers and size were overwhelming.
Even an ordinary hyena was as large as a bull.
As Alex descended toward the ground, his vision was obscured by countless clouds of dust.
Amidst the chaos, the only thing he could hear were the desperate screams of people.
Understanding the situation, he figured that even if Old Man Krei had survived Rai’s attack, he had most likely already been torn apart by the tide of beasts.
As the thought crossed his mind, the sorrow in his heart deepened. Nonetheless, with his current situation, he couldn’t afford to have a mental break down.
I need to get out of here while they’re still feasting.
Without the slightest hesitation, Alex sprinted toward the opposite side of the sandstorm.
As he ran, he quickly noticed the changes in his body. His speed had increased dramatically.
He was running almost as fast as a cheetah.
Along the way, he witnessed more people being ripped apart by the beasts.
These are... At least Fourth-Rank Beasts!
He exclaimed inwardly, his entire body trembling.
Unlike abominations, beasts possessed natural intelligence. They hunted in coordinated packs, making them even more dangerous.
Abominations, on the other hand, possessed very limited intellect, acting almost entirely on instinct and slaughtering anything they encountered.
Only the higher stages of abominations developed true intelligence.
Soon, Alex was close to escaping the camp.
The dust of the sand that filled his vission gradually cleared, and the surroundings became much quieter.
Just as he thought he had finally escaped—
A hyena suddenly blocked his path.
It had appeared out of nowhere.
Even with his enhanced senses, he hadn’t detected its presence.
I’m doomed...
Alex’s heart sank. The despair that engulfed him felt like falling into a bottomless pit.
Cold sweat trickled down his forehead as his body instinctively froze. The hyena before him was at least twice the size of the others he had seen.
Its eyes weren’t green like the rest of Hyenas. Instead, they are deep crimson. Within one glance even its fur looked noticeably different.
There was no dark patch from its fur, only pure crimson-red fur.
Slowly, it approached the frozen Alex.
It circled around him, like it was carefully inspecting its prey.
Feeling the overwhelming sense of danger, Alex could only stand there as death drew closer.
Strangely, the closer he came to death, the larger and more dazzling the butterfly wings on his back became.
A few seconds later, the apparent leader of the hyena pack stopped only a few meters away from him.
Alex’s heart felt as though it were about to burst. His vision gradually blurred under the immense pressure.
The scorching breath of the hyena brushed against his neck.
Its jaws were so enormous that they could swallow half his body in a single bite.
Slowly, Alex closed his eyes.
He silently prayed for a painless death.
Ten seconds passed...
Nothing happened.
Instead, from somewhere far away, he sensed something. Even from such a great distance, he could still sense it.
That... That’s definitely the flying artifact!
The despair in his heart instantly faded, replaced by an overwhelming sense of relief.
The flying artifact had completely malfunctioned before crashing a few kilometers away.
Tears unconsciously streamed down his face.
The grief he had been suppressing ever since Old Man Krei’s death finally burst forth.
For who knew how long, Alex remained standing there, finally letting out his emotions that he had been holding back.
By the time he came back to his senses, the king of the hyenas was already gone.
Stupid old man... I don’t want to continue living in this world anymore...
He cried out in his heart.
He missed his family. He missed spending time with his friends. He missed the comfort of his room, and he also missed the delicious food back on Earth.
But now, all he could do was continue moving forward.
At that moment, the sandstorm was already closing in on the camp. The tide of beasts had also begun leaving the area.
Initially, he had planned to head north.
However, that wasn’t logical.
Countless abominations roamed this world. Without any survival experience, he would most likely die before long.
Realizing that long ago, he abandoned that idea and chose to follow the tide of beasts instead.
Ahead of him, the back of the Hyena King could be seen.
Neither it nor the rest of the hyena pack showed any intention of attacking him. They simply ignored his presence.
Whoosh!
The sandstorm drew even closer. Even from miles away, Alex could already feel his body being pulled toward it.
Without his awakened bloodline, he would’ve long since been dragged into the sandstorm and torn to pieces.
Without wasting another second, he sprinted after the tide of beasts.
I’ll become stronger.
After I become stronger, I’ll change this civilization. Their way of doing things is just so wrong...
If nothing changes, the same tragedy will continue happening to others.
A newfound resolve ignited within his heart.
From this moment onward, his goal was no longer just survival.
He wanted to change this place and live his life to the fullest.
The despair that had nearly consumed him gradually faded, replaced by unwavering determination.
Four hours passed.
The butterfly wings on his back gradually lost their radiance, as though their vitality was slowly fading away.
After walking for so long, his exhausted body finally collapsed onto the cold sand.
He had unknowingly arrived at a pond in the middle of the desert, where the hyena pack had chosen to rest.
His eyelids felt heavy as the butterfly wings behind him slowly disappeared.
Even so, he still felt as though they hadn’t truly vanished.
With mixed emotions, he opened his system.
[Explosion System]

[Inventory]
As his eyes scanned the panel, his jaw slowly dropped. His Mana had increased drastically, not only Mana but all of his stats.
For several seconds, he remained speechless.
For someone who was only Level Two, possessing such stats was enough to make anyone envious.
Soon, his attention shifted toward the newly awakened God of Butterflies bloodline.
He imagined clicking it.
Immediately, the system displayed an explanation.
[Description: The Host has awakened the First Phase of the God of Butterflies Bloodline, one of the Mystical Bloodlines. During the First Phase, the Host’s stats will double upon manifesting the four butterfly wings. The Host will also gain the ability to fly, though flight remains limited during the First Phase.]
[Description: Additionally, the Host will possess slight resistance to natural disasters. Beasts below Third-Rank will naturally favor the Host, while Fifth-Rank Beasts will regard the Host with goodwill.]
Alex carefully read every word, everything it had said was proven and tested.
After all, he had personally experienced the effects of the First Phase when he had jumped out from the flying artifact.
Even after deactivating them, he still felt as though the wings had fused with his body.
He knew he could manifest them again instinctively whenever he wished.
Unfortunately, with his body in such a weakened state, doing so was impossible for now.
Mystical Bloodline is it? To think I obtained something this incredible.
A bitter smile appeared on his face.
Without this bloodline, he would’ve died the moment he jumped from the flying artifact. Even if he had somehow survived the fall, he would’ve ended up like the others—devoured by the tide of beasts.
Just then, he remembered the Mana Crystal stored inside his inventory.
Without much thought, he summoned it.
A crystal the size of a small ball appeared in his palm, emitting a dazzling radiance that occasionally sparkled like the stars.
Slowly, a small portion of its energy began flowing into his beast, His injuries, exhaustion, and fatigue rapidly started recovering.
After regaining a portion of his strength, Alex carefully observed his surroundings.
Most of the hyenas were lying on the ground, resting peacefully.
Some had approached the pond to drink water. Alex observed the pond, it was surprisingly large, and the water looked remarkably fresh.
With neither food nor water left on him, Alex slowly dragged his exhausted body toward the pond.
If he was lucky, perhaps there would be fish—or at least something edible—living beneath its surface.
However, he was certain the pond concealed some kind of hidden danger.
When he observed the hyenas drinking from it earlier, they had remained unusually cautious.
Moreover, the mere existence of a pond in the middle of such a dangerous desert was simply too good to be true.
Alex then checked the items inside his inventory.
A lighter.
And an empty water bottle.
Seeing that, he took out the bottle and slowly approached the edge of the pond.
Staring into the crystal-clear water, he couldn’t help but feel apprehensive.
He couldn’t even tell how deep it was.
Just as he was about to kneel and fill the bottle. He suddenly sensed something dangerous coming from the pond.
Without showing the slightest surprise, he immediately looked toward the water.
A gigantic tilapia burst out from beneath the surface.
It resembled an ordinary tilapia, yet its body was nearly five times larger. More frighteningly, rows of sharp fangs in its mouth, giving it the appearance of a carnivorous predator.
The moment it lunged toward him—
Alex instinctively activated Detonating Gaze.
Boom!
A deafening explosion echoed across the pond.
The surrounding hyenas briefly turned toward the sound.
However, after seeing Alex, they merely glanced at him before returning to what they were doing.
Good... Food is secured.
