Poisoned Rationality

Chapter 6: Divine Talks

-Estelle-

I was lying across one of my couches in my domain when a portal formed, and Alysto, Goddess of the System and Space, appeared.

“Hey, Estelle!” She said, “How’re you doing?”

“Fine,” I told her.

“Cool, cool,” Alysto murmured. “So, some things came up, and I have a few questions for you. Is that fine?”

“I guess,” I sighed.

“Great!” Alysto said. “First thing is that Lyrice recently did a System Level-Up Ceremony, and the girl ended up with some interesting titles.”

“Okay, and?” I asked.

“The titles were the Divine Blessing of the Goddess of Love and Family and [Fated One],” Alysto replied. I sat up immediately.

“Where was this?” I demanded.

“Southeastern Souria,” Alysto told me. “I thought you already had a Fated One, though.”

“I did,” I said. “But another god killed her, and she was reincarnated, but Ophelia finally found her a year ago. I can’t see her or talk to her yet, though.”

“Another god killed her!?” Alysto exclaimed. “That’s some serious shit. Didn’t Ms. Chaos Goddess do anything?”

“Who?” I asked.

“Never mind, forget I said anything,” Alysto replied. “I’ll ask Ophelia later.” Her wings buzzed softly. “So, if the girl is your Fated One, then what is she doing on the mortal plane?”

“She lost all her memories,” I told Alysto. “So Aetheros is helping us. She has to gain levels or whatever to remember everything, and then re-ascend.”

“I see,” Alysto said. “Well, that solves that problem. Alright, thanks. I’ll be going now.”

“What do you mean, ‘that problem’?” I demanded, leaning forward. “Are there other problems?”

“Well, not problems, per se…” Alysto said, leaning back. “She just has a strange title. And as much as I’d like to, I can’t tell you anything yet.”

“Well, as soon as you can, tell me immediately,” I demanded.

“Yes, of course,” Alysto said. “I’m going to leave now.”

A portal opened, and she stepped through it before it closed.

-Alysto-

I appeared in a room within the Heavenly Palace, the residence of the highest Gods. One of the two girls in the room, who were kissing, jumped up with a yelp.

“ALYSTO!” She yelled. “Don’t just teleport right into the room! At least go through the lobby!” This was Celeste, the Head Goddess of our realm.

“Sorry,” I apologized. The other girl, Innoine, was Celeste’s wife. She just smiled and kept her arm around Celeste.

The Goddess looked relatively young and wore an oversized lime-green hoodie that covered her body. Poking out the back was a fox tail on the left, a cat tail on the right, and a dragon tail in the middle.

Sticking out of her hair were two tall fox ears, matching her orange hair, and a curved, horn-like shape with a glowing bulb on the end. She pouted at me, and I could see two of her fangs.

Innoine had two large dragon wings extending from her back and a long tail that matched. There were a few scales that were scattered across her cheeks.

“So what is it you want?” Celeste asked. “I hope it's important.”

“Something very important came up,” I explained.

“Did you really have to interrupt our private time with it?” The pouting Goddess asked.

“You mean your passionate kissing?” I corrected. “Yes, actually, I did. I mean it when I say this is top-level stuff. Someone had the title [True Void].”

Celeste’s eyes widened, although her cheeks were tomato-red. “Okay, yeah, that is important. Shit.”

“Yeah,” I agreed.

“Alright, thanks for telling me,” Celeste said. “I’ll deal with it. Now shoo.” She waved me away, and I grinned.

“Have fun!” I called as I opened a portal and disappeared from the Heavenly Palace.

-Celeste-

“Sorry, but I do have to go and figure this out,” I told Innoine. She smiled and cupped my cheek, pulling me into a kiss.

“It’s fine, I’ll be here when you get back,” She said, smiling. I nodded and opened a door to the Void Space, my cheeks burning.

I floated out into the swirling emptiness, propelling myself with my tails.

“Null!” I called out. “Where are you?”

After I spoke, I felt a pulse of energy and saw void condensing together to form a large humanoid shape.

When the huge Void Inhabitant finished forming, the light of their face pulsed as they spoke.

“What do you want, Chaos Goddess?” They rumbled.

“What do you know about the girl with the title [True Void]?” I asked. “What did you do to her?”

“I have done nothing at all,” Null told me. “She has become the Goddess of the Void, or she will in time. The title was one of the results of her divinity.”

“That can’t be right,” I said. “Gods can’t change their authorities or have more than four, and she already had three when she was last alive.”

“She was killed and reborn anew,” Null noted. “She has changed; she is no longer the person she used to be. Her authorities have changed, although one of them has stayed the same.”

“That’s possible?” I asked. “I guess it does make sense that they would change if her soul itself changed.”

“See? It is simple,” Null said. “You Gods get so upset about problems and questions that have such simple answers.”

“Well, excuse me, Mr. Older-Than-Time-Itself,” I retorted. “Some of us are young, okay?”

“Says the girl who’s several billion years old,” Null shot back. “Most Gods are younger than you are.”

“Now you’re making jokes?” I asked. “Ugh. Okay, I’m leaving.”

“Goodbye,” Null said, waving their unimaginably huge hand as I floated back to the door I used to enter and left.

When I got back to the Palace, I found Innoine sitting on the sofa with our daughter, Iris.

“Momma!” The little girl said, leaping up and running over to me. I caught her and whirled her around as she leaped into a hug.

“How’s my little girl doing?” I asked. She grinned and began telling me about her day at the divine school for the younger Gods.
