Chapter 360: Carboniferous Period 32
The moment Sage Bishop was thrown, a Cannibal Flower sprouted from the ground and swallowed her in one gulp.
Then, the Cannibal Flower retreated back into the ground.
At the same time, Perry Yates also had a Cannibal Flower swallow her, and then retreated into the ground.
However, judging by how fixated the dragonfly was on her, it was unlikely to give up just because she was hiding underground. So, Perry Yates also created two Clones at the same time.
After the two were swallowed by the Cannibal Flowers, the dragonfly paused, having lost its targets. After a moment’s thought, it prepared to charge the spot where the flowers had just disappeared.
This alone showed that the dragonfly was quite intelligent.
Just then, two Clones appeared at the same time, running off in different directions.
Seeing this, the dragonfly hesitated for a moment before ultimately chasing after the Wood Attribute Clone.
Meanwhile, hiding inside a Killing Flower, Perry Yates heaved a heavy sigh of relief when she saw the dragonfly being lured away.
However, she didn’t let the Clone dissipate immediately. She had it continue to lead the dragonfly into the distance. Once it was far enough away, she still didn’t let it disappear; instead, she deliberately allowed the dragonfly to attack it.
The instant the dragonfly attacked, Perry Yates clearly felt one-third of her Clone’s power being drained away.
From this, she concluded that the dragonfly fed on energy.
After confirming the dragonfly was gone, Perry Yates waited for about half an hour before having the Cannibal Flower release her. Then, she had the other flower release Sage Bishop, who had also been swallowed.
After being released, Sage Bishop said emotionally to Perry Yates, "I really thought you were going to abandon me."
’She had considered it, but she figured it was nice to have someone to talk and chat with in this bug-infested game, so she’d abandoned the idea.’
"What about the dragonfly? Did you kill it?" Sage Bishop asked, looking around.
Perry Yates shook her head. "The dragonfly’s body seems to be composed of some kind of energy. It can heal even after being blown to bits, so I just lured it away."
Perry Yates had a feeling the next ten days would be anything but peaceful. After all, no one knew if that dragonfly was an anomaly or a sign of the evolutionary direction for all insects to come.
’This world is so dangerous. I wonder what the point would be if it were made Concrete. As for coal, it hasn’t even formed yet; it’s just in the accumulation stage.’
’Whatever, I’m not going to think about it. It’s not my problem.’
Perry Yates decisively pushed the matter to the back of her mind. All she wanted now was to find a safe place to spend the remaining ten days.
When she first entered the game, she had spent all her time after the twentieth day in hiding.
「The twentieth day of the game.」
After a full day of searching, Perry Yates finally found a suitable spot for a temporary base. It was a solid rock face, its only drawback being the lack of a cave for shelter.
"Why did you bring me here?" Sage Bishop asked, confused.
’Since yesterday, she’s been searching for something nonstop.’
"To prepare for the next ten days, of course. I’m guessing you don’t want to run into another dragonfly like yesterday’s, do you?"
Thinking of yesterday’s seemingly immortal dragonfly, Sage Bishop shook her head.
’Although they had dodged the dragonfly’s lethal attack, being eaten by a Cannibal Flower was not a pleasant experience. She never wanted to go through that again.’
"If you don’t, then come and help."
She had already confirmed through her plants a short while ago: yesterday’s dragonfly wasn’t an anomaly, but part of an entire population.
The bodies of these dragonflies were composed of energy. Their favorite targets were insects with special abilities, as they would suck the energy from their bodies.
Of course, what these dragonflies loved most were players.
After all, a player’s body contained several times more energy than an insect’s.
The only good news was that there weren’t many of these dragonflies yet, and they relied on sight to find prey. They hadn’t evolved some insane Skill that let them smell energy.
So, as long as you hid well, you were basically safe.
Perry Yates summoned a Cannibal Flower and used its secreted digestive fluids to corrode a cave directly into the rock face.
The cave was large enough to accommodate the Safe House with room to spare.
By the time they finished, it was already afternoon.
Hearing the distant sound of beating wings rapidly approaching, Perry Yates quickly pulled Sage Bishop into the cave and blocked the entrance with another large stone.
Perry Yates didn’t neglect the area outside the cave, either. She urged various plants to grow, laying a Heaven and Earth Net.
Only after entering the Safe House did Perry Yates finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Through her plants, she could see that not long after they had entered the cave, two enormous, entirely red dragonflies—even their wings were red—flew out of the forest.
The two dragonflies split up and began a sweeping search of the area, moving with a coordination that suggested they’d done this many times before.
Not only that, but Perry Yates had originally enclosed the area with Thorny Roses for protection.
She had done this not only to stop insects from approaching but also to warn other players away. However, the two dragonflies treated the blooming flowers like an all-you-can-eat buffet and devoured every single one.
Only after devouring every last rose did they fly away, seemingly still wanting more.
Perry Yates, witnessing this from inside the Safe House, was left speechless.
’How noble of you, treating my defenses like a personal buffet.’
But they hadn’t discovered her hiding spot, so that was a good thing. Worst case, she just wouldn’t let her plants bloom anymore.
「The twenty-first day of the game.」
Sage Bishop stared at Perry Yates, who was lounging contentedly in the living room, and an odd expression crossed her face.
"This is the first time I’ve ever seen someone treating the game like a vacation."
Snacks, a tablet, TV shows... For a moment, she thought she was hallucinating.
Perry Yates glanced up from her tablet for a second. "Just because you haven’t seen it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. Besides, I risked my life for all this—as if!—so why can’t I enjoy it?"
She said it with such righteous conviction that Sage Bishop nodded in full agreement.
"True enough."
It was rare to be this relaxed during the game, so Sage Bishop quickly settled in and started seriously planning what attribute to switch her cards to after she left.
’Rare attributes are stronger than common ones, but there are so few rare attribute cards. A smaller number means fewer choices.’
This went against Sage Bishop’s initial plan.
While being Multi-attribute wasn’t bad, not everyone was Perry Yates. Fusing with cards of only one attribute would cause an imbalance of power within the body.
