Chapter 122: Tank and Spank
Emberslag nodded in agreement while adding to Shelur, “Also, I think we can ignore the imp, though why don’t you summon your own to deal with it?”
“Do I have to?” Shelur complained. “You know the little shit never shuts up and is crazy rude.”
“Says the one calling it a little shit,” Black Dragoon mumbled.
“Just do it,” Emberslag replied. “The quicker we nuke the boss down, the quicker you can unsummon it.”
“Fine,” Shelur said with a sigh before turning away from the door and saying unenthusiastically. “Summon: Imp.”
A magic circle formed a short distance away, and after five seconds passed, a small red imp appeared within it that looked around before saying in a high-pitched voice, “What the fuck did I tell you about summoning me, useless orc? I have no interest in serving a weak little girl like you.”
“Wow, he’s lovely,” Mel stated while Shelur waved her hand and said. “See what I mean?”
“Great, your lineup of useless companions has increased again. Also, I’ll have you know I’m a female,” The imp retorted while staring at the group. However, as it reached John is suddenly froze before rubbing its eyes and staring at him again; only after it did that twice more did it slowly turn back to Shelur and ask. “Shelur, how is it that you're in the same party as the Warden?”
“Come again?” Shelur asked in surprise. “Not only because the Imp somehow knew Vincarna’s class, but also because it had actually addressed her by her name, something it had never done before.”
“The warden, you dumb orc, the warden, him, him,” The imp replied while animatedly pointing at John. “Why are you teamed up with he who is favoured by the succubus queen?”
“You mean Elrinira?” John asked, to which the Imp nodded. “Yes, yes. Rumours have already begun to spread in the underworld about how you helped save Queen Elrinira’s sister and that you're now favoured by her. What are you doing with this useless orc?”
“I knew she liked you, but favoured?” Mel teased, causing John to roll his eyes at her before saying to the imp. “I don’t know anything about this being favoured, though I will admit that I am on friendly terms with her. But that doesn’t give you the right to address Shelur as a useless orc. From what I’ve seen shes a very talented warlock who has even taught me many things.”
Shelur gave John a surprised look, which quickly turned into gratitude, while the imp looked back and forth between the two before saying, “I may have misjudged you, Shelur; your competency has at least risen a small amount in my eyes.”
“Gee, thanks,” Shelur replied sarcastically before adding. “You're still a weak, pathetic little imp in my eyes, though.”
“Damn bitch,” The imp cursed. “This is what I get for trying to show you a modicum of respect.”
“Please, you only showed me respect because Vincarna is here and you fear the wrath of Elrinira,” Shelur shot back, causing the imp to grind her teeth, though she couldn’t deny that fact.
“See, now just shut up for once and do what you're told,” Shelur ordered and waited for the imp to argue back like it always did; however, this time it amazingly stayed quiet.”
Shelur cocked her head at the imp curiously before realising that it was still staring ostentatiously at John, and upon seeing this she smiled evilly before hooking her arm through John's, surprising the other girls and saying, “You know, Vincarna, perhaps you should level up with me after we finish this dungeon. It seems you're able to keep this bitch quiet.”

John glanced at Shelur for a moment, and just when Mel expected him to decline, he surprised her by saying, “I’ll think about it.”
Shelur also gave him a surprised look, as she had only been doing it to annoy the imp, which was now glaring at her hatefully. “R… right,” Shelur replied as she quickly unhooked her arm and looked away, tossing her hair over her shoulder to hide her blush, and added, “You think about it.”
Emberslag and Black Dragoon watched their friend in surprise before giving each other knowing smiles, while Mel was shouting inside her own head. {HE DIDN’T REFUSE? WHY DIDN’T HE REFUSE? HE REFUSED MY INVITE TO DINNER WITH THE OTHER GIRLS. COULD IT BE HE HAS A THING FOR ORCS? I MEAN SHE IS RATHER HOT FOR ONE OF HER RACE. No, no, calm down, Mel your looking at this from the wrong angle. Maybe it’s because she’s not human; I mean, it’s kind of obvious that he dislikes humans, so maybe that's the real reason he refused my dinner invitation back then. I bet he’d have accepted if it was only Shizu alone or maybe Alea… Perhaps I really should tell him before it’s too late.}
Emberslag coughed as a means to gather everyone's attention before saying, “So we’ll go with a standard tank and spank to let Vincarna get some practice in while Shelur’s imp handles the enemy imp.”
“Oh joy, you wish me to kill one of my own kind; how considerate of you,” The imp replied, only for Shelur to glare at it and say. “It’s not like you actually die; you just return to the underworld.”
“Doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt,” The imp shot back before glancing at John and turning quiet again.
“Yes, well,” Emberslag continued. “The warlock class tend to favour the use of DoTs, though he probably only has one or two at his level. I’m assuming you know what DoTs are, Vincarna?”
“Damage over Time spells, the opposite of HoTs, Heal over Time spells,” John replied.
“Very good,” Emberslag praised with a smile before continuing. “DoTs do damage slowly, so while they might not seem dangerous, they can be easily forgotten and end up killing you, so be mindful of their damage, and Dream Star should keep an eye on everyone's HP gauge.”
“Got it,” Mel nodded as John asked. “Is there anything specific I should watch out for?”
Emberslag shook her head while saying, “Not really at this stage of the game. You should just focus on practising your blocking and positioning like Shelur said. Oh, also try to remember that when blocking an attack, it’s best to always try and have it hit the centre of the shield, since hitting the side can not only cause it to slide off and hit you, but also cause damage to your shield.”
“Got it,” John said while nodding.
“Alright, you're the tank, so you lead, and we will follow while giving you enough time to lock its aggro onto you,” Emberslag replied before adding. “I suggest you save your taunt skill for when you need it; we will hold off attacking until it summons the imp that should give you more than enough time to build enough aggro.”
John nodded before taking a breath, after which he stepped into the room, and as he did so, the boss seemed to notice his presence.
“Get lost, trash; can’t you see I have work to do keeping these records in order for the boss?” Sog asked without turning around.
“Records?” Black Dragoon repeated before adding. “Looks like we found the location for the records quest.”
“Sorry to inform you, but I’m afraid we will need those records,” John said before he suddenly charged forward, shield raised after saying. “Thundering Charge.”
John lost control of his body for a second as he charged forward far faster than he had ever moved before in his life, and as soon as he reached Sog, he slammed into the orc's back, causing a low clap of thunder to be heard as a notification appeared.
[Due to the effects of Thundering Charge, Sog has been stunned for two seconds.]
John didn’t stop and took advantage of the boss's stunned state by starting to say, “Draconian Empress’s…”
However, before he could finish, Black Dragoon yelled, “VINCERNA, NO! YOU’LL BURN THE RECORDS.”
“Hold up, the Warden can use a draconian's breath attack?” The imp asked in shock as John stopped his attack halfway before changing it to “Temporal Blast.” However, a notification still appeared before his eyes.
[Due to cancelling Draconian Empress’s Breath halfway, the skill will go on cooldown for: 6 Seconds.]
[Damage Dealt: 45 to Sog]
[MP: 320>>295]
[Temporal Blast Cooldown: 3 Seconds]
[Class Mission update:]
[Cast Temporal Blast and damage an enemy 10 times: 2/10]
{Wait, so cancelling a skill before it activates still puts it on cooldown? But it looks like the cooldown is reduced to only ten percent of the original.}
“Cosmic Strike,” John said as he aimed the tip of his staff at the back of Sog’s neck.
[Super Critical Hit]
[Damage Dealt: 180 to Sog]
[MP: 295>>270]
[Cosmic Strike Cooldown: 5 Seconds]
[Class Mission update:]
[Use Cosmic Strike to damage an enemy 10 times: 2/10]
