Chapter 36: Detect Herbs
As he left the forest and approached Dawn Village, he found the two brothers leaning against the entry gate looking bored, only for David to glance in his direction and say with a smirk, “Daniel, look who’s back.”
“Well, if it isn’t Sajiko’s little errand boy,” Daniel replied in a teasing tone.
“Didn’t you two try to trick me into becoming your errand boy?” Adam asked.
"Whatever,” Daniel scoffed. “How'd it go, kid? Get the herbs Sajiko wanted?"
"Yup, all done." John nodded proudly.
“Nothing to be so proud about, kid; it’s only picking grass,” David retorted before thumbing over his shoulder while saying, “You better go report your success to your boss then.”
John frowned before asking, "Aren't you supposed to show me the way to her shop?”
“Yeah, that’s not happening,” David scoffed.
“Just look for the shop with herbs outside it,” Daniel instructed before adding with a sneer. “It also says Alchemist Shop above the door.”
“Gee thanks,” John retorted sarcastically as he passed the brothers and finally entered the village while the pair laughed behind him.
[You have discovered the Dawn Village.]
Finally inside the village, John looked around while he began his search for the alchemist shop. He saw many houses of varying sizes along with a forge in the distance that had smoke coming out of a chimney.
He passed what was obviously the pub that the two brothers had planned to make him collect beers from, while several people of different races were drinking outside it. As he rounded a corner, he saw what looked like a small Colosseum along with a few other buildings, including shops which he made a beeline towards.
Soon he found a shop like the two brothers had indicated, with herbs growing outside, and as he got closer, he read the words Alchemist Shop above the door.
Smiling that he found the place, John pushed the door open and went inside. The shop was spherical in shape with the counter directly in front of the entrance. Behind the counter was a raised walkway that started with some steps to the left of the counter before curving around the back of the other shop; shelves lined the back wall containing various potions and herbs. Finally, the walkway reached a small circular platform that contained a bookshelf, table and chairs.
As he looked around, he heard Sajiko call down to him from the circular platform where she had been sitting reading a book while drinking tea. “Oh, your back. I take it you succeeded?”
“I had a few complications, but I got the herbs you wanted, plus a few extra,” Adam replied as he looked up at her.
“A few extra, huh,” Sajiko replied as she placed a bookmark in the book before walking around and down to the counter.
“Show me what you got, kiddo,” Sajiko instructed as she took her place behind the counter and leaned against it.
John nodded before he grabbed the herb pouch from his inventory and then withdrew all the herbs he had gathered and placed them on the counter.
"Well now, what do we have here?” Sajiko asked in surprise. “Six peacebloom, seven silverleaf and even five Stranglekelp- not bad, kiddo; you went above and beyond.

[20 exp rewarded]
[Exp: 50/200>>70/200]
“Cool,” John said happily as he saw his experience rise.
Sajiko chuckled as her tails moved around behind her and she said, “Don’t get too excited just yet; I still need to give you your reward.”
“Reward?” John asked in surprise. “We didn’t talk about a reward.”
“That’s your fault for not confirming all the details before accepting,” Sajiko teased. “If I were an evil Kitsune, I would just leave things here and be done with it. But luckily for you, I’m benevolent and so will reward you accordingly.
Let's see: peacebloom goes for ten copper each, silverleaf also for ten, and stranglekelp is actually a silver each, so in total that would be five silver thirty, copper.” Sajiko announced before winking at him and saying, "Or I could give you a spell."
"A spell?" John asked, interested.
"Yup, it's a spell called Detect Herbs, and as the name suggests, it will detect any herbs within your vicinity and pinpoint their location in your mind."
"Sounds useful. I want the spell," John replied.
{If the herbs are worth as much as Sajiko said, it shouldn’t take me long to make that money anyway.}
"Ok, a spell it is; here you go," Sajiko said before waving her hand in his direction.
[Learned Passive Spell: Detect Herbs]
[Detect Herbs: Will automatically detect any herbs within your vicinity and highlight their location when you look in their direction. The clarity of the herb gets clearer the closer you are to it.]
After reading the notification, John decided to look back towards the entrance of the shop, where he now saw several distinct outlines of herbs he did not recognise.
"Cool," John remarked
"I guess that means it's working," Sajiko chuckled before clapping her hands and asking. “Well, now that’s out of the way, kiddo, are you interested in buying some potions?”
"I have no money," John said flatly, making Sajiko gape at him. "Damn boy, how did you even make it here in the first place, sheesh?"
John chuckled in response, causing Sajiko to sigh before saying, "Fine then, I suggest you explore the village and try to find people who need help with things or maybe visit the Weapons Hall. That's where they teach unarmed combat as well as weapon training, which will help you with hunting monsters before you get a weapon."
“Weapons Hall?” Adam asked.
“The big colosseum-looking building, that’s nearby; you can’t have missed it,” Sajiko replied before adding. "I guess I can also give you another since you did so well with the last one and I’m always in need of more herbs.
Hmm, let's see." Sajiko went into thought for a moment as she glanced up at the shelves that lined the back wall. "I know, I’m running low on Briarthorn; can you go gather me some?"
[Quest Notification]
[Help Sajiko gather Briarthorn (Ordinary)]
[Sajiko the Alchemist of Dawn Village is running low on Briarthorn and has asked you to go gather some.]
[Quest Goals:]
[Briarthorn: 0/5]
[Quest success reward:]
[20 copper]
[Minor Healing Potion x 5]
[Quest Failure punishment: None]
[Do you wish to accept or decline the quest?]
[Accept] [Decline]
John moaned before saying, as he thought of some certain killer bunnies, before reluctantly saying, "Accept."
“What the heck, kiddo, why do you look so defeated all of a sudden?” Sajiko asked in surprise.
John sighed and rubbed the back of his neck while saying, “I found a patch of briarthorn earlier and… well, let’s just say I had an experience with some rabbits.”
Sajiko smirked before saying, “Couldn’t beat them, huh?”
“Nope,” John replied.
“That’s why I suggest you visit the training hall first. Even if you don’t have a weapon, the unarmed fighting they teach will give you a chance against those critters,” Sajiko replied.
“I think I’ll do just that,” Adam nodded.
“Off you go then,” Sajiko instructed. “You're not going to get any stronger standing around here.
John nodded and headed for the exit while saying, “Thanks.”
Just as the shop door swung closed behind him, he could have sworn he heard Sajiko burst into laughter, making John groan.
{I really need to stop telling everyone about the damn rabbits.}
He shook his head before headlining the direction of the weapons hall.
As he reached one of the many entrances to the colosseum-type building and was about to pass through, a woman appeared before him and the two nearly collided.
The woman had long brown hair and blue eyes, while also having a perfectly shaped hourglass figure, except for one part. Her tits were the largest John had ever seen, making him swallow slightly as he saw them.
It took all his willpower to pull his eyes away from her assets and up to her face, where he said, “Sorry.”
“It’s quite… ” The woman began to say in a beautiful voice, only to stop partway and start over in a completely different tone of voice. “It’s quite alright.”
After she finished speaking, she gave John another smile before proceeding on her way.
John couldn’t help but turn and watch her as she walked away, thinking about both her weird voice change and her oversized knockers. On instinct or maybe out of curiosity, John decided to use used inspect.
