Chapter 3: Genesis basics
Eventually, John arrived at school and headed towards his classroom while ignoring the comments and looks of disgust his well-used school uniform received on a daily basis.
After reaching his classroom, he took his seat right in the back corner and waited for the bell to signal class would begin. Unfortunately, or should John think predictably, only two minutes after taking his seat, he heard the familiar drone of Dean Thomas as he began his daily insult and bullying.
"It's about time you turned eighteen, you piece of gutter trash. Do you realise how long you've kept the rest of us waiting?"
Dean said before the group of cronies that always followed him around and sucked up to him began to laugh.
Dean had such a following not because he was a popular kid, but because his father and family were well connected. Dean's family had some reputation both in Dawnscape City and within Genesis, as they ran a profitable mine for the Dawnscape guild, which, as anyone could guess from the name, was the main guild run by the city officials in the game.
However, having spent years of his life receiving the same kind of treatment from Dean and his cronies, John had learned the best way to handle it was just to ignore him, as he would eventually get bored and go away.
John was not afraid that any of them would lash out and try to physically or magically harm him since all crimes of assault were dealt with harshly.
Since the Genesis agreements one-hundred and twelve years ago, all the races agreed to try and keep any physical confrontations inside Genesis, while for those who had not yet received their Genesis initiation, there were training pods that could be used to have virtual matches. All the races took a harsh line on physical and magical fights in the real world.
However, as with any rule or law, there are always those out there who believed they were above it and would break it; but that’s why the security forces of each race were permitted to use force when deemed necessary, though they naturally had to have a valid reason for their actions, such as breaking up an existing conflict.
Predictably, after a couple of minutes of not getting a rise out of John, Dean clicked his tongue and insulted him once more before going to find something or someone more interesting, causing the rest of the class, who had been hoping for some entertainment, to mutter in disappointment.
A few minutes later, the bell rang, signalling the start of school and Miss Brown, their homeroom teacher, entered the classroom and took her position at the front of the class. After sitting behind her desk, she looked around at all the students with a smile before beginning.
"So today is finally the day you will all be initiated into Genesis, and you can start your exciting adventures in the second world." Miss Brown stated, causing almost everyone in the class to break out in cheer.
"Now I am sure most of you are already aware of this, but there are some Genesis basics that I am required by law to go over with you before you can be initiated." Miss Brown announced, causing the class’s cheers to turn into groans while she smiled as if she had been expecting such a response.
"First off, we will be talking about the five races. These five races are the most powerful on Atlantia, each controls one of the five largest continents while also being the five that offered one of there race in the creation of Genesis’s artificial intelligence, Tia.
This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.
As you all know from your classes, the Genesis world is an exact replica of Atlantia, with the Eloa continent being ruled by our race”
“Naturally,” Dean interrupted, causing many of the class to laugh.
“Now, now,” Miss Brown replied. “Don’t look down on the other races of the Eloa continent; many of them have strange and unique skills that we don’t have while also being stronger than us in magic, such as the Kitsune race. In fact, our race is rather average when it comes to both magic power and capacity.
The strongest race on the Himgulir continent is the Dwarves. They tend to live underground, where they advance Atlantia’s technology. Also known to live on the Himgulir continent and have friendly relations with the Dwarfs are the Gnomes, who are known as genius inventors of small gizmos; it was they, along with the Dwarfs, who made the access bands.
The Uzdrord continent is home to the Orcs; their savage brutality is what earned them the right to rule. Their lands are a place where only the strong survive. The trolls, with their strange witch doctor ways, are another inhabitant of the Uzdrord continent.
The Draconian race rules the Xaynneth continent from the skies thanks to their wings, which enable them to fly. They live in the mountains that are rumoured to be the home of the sleeping ancient dragons, though no one has seen one for centuries; maybe you will be the first in Genesis to see one.
Finally, we have the home of the Elves, the Essnoris continent. This magical race is known to never die from old age, and it was they who, of course, brought the other races to the negotiating table after their oracle's vision of Atlantia’s destruction.
Another powerful race known to live on the Essnoris Continent, though not one of the five, is the Fae. This race assisted the Elves and the Draconians in creating the magic that now encompasses the entire world and allows us to enter Genesis; this is thanks to the sleep magic that the Fae specialise in, as accessing Genesis puts you into a sleep-type state.
Other races do exist, but I do not need to mention them all here, as it would take too long and I’m sure you're all eager to begin your Genesis Initialisation. Also, I’m sure you have all been keeping up on your schoolwork, so you will already know about many of them."
As Miss Brown reached this point, many of the students in the class suddenly avoided eye contact with her, making her chuckle and smile before continuing.
"The location of civilisation's towns and cities on these continents is different from what you know in the real world. A prime example is our very own Dawnscape City. In Genesis, a giant forest known as the Forest of Dawn is situated where Dreamscape should be and that will actually be one of the first places some of you end up exploring.
The wildlife in Genesis is nothing like in the real world; while you may find normal animals like cats and dogs or sheep, you will also find giant spiders or flying lizards."
As she reached this point and mentioned giant spiders, a lot of the class shivered, while some of the girls even let out little shrieks.
When your initiation begins, the AI Tia will give you all a full body and brain scan so that you can access Genesis anytime you like. This will only take a short amount of time and you will then be returned to reality where you can pick up your access band.
Upon first entering Genesis, you will be randomly taken to a starter area where you will learn the basics of the game, such as combat, trading, how to go about completing missions and the like.
Now, while death inside Genesis causes no actual harm to your real bodies, Tia will lock you out of Genesis for twenty-four hours unless your death takes place in the starter area you are first sent to; you will then re-spawn immediately. There are, however, items that allow you to bypass the twenty-four-hour rule. If you're so lucky as to find them or receive a quest that does the same.
How long you spend in the starting area and what you do there is entirely up to you; however, when you wish to leave, you simply have to find the town mayor, who will give you a simple quest. This quest is random, but it normally involves killing x number of monsters or gathering x amount of materials.
Once you complete this mission, the mayor will allow you to use the transport circle to travel to the nearest city and that's where your true adventure in Genesis begins."
