Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close

Chapter 502: Rushing to Get Married

Nina Scott felt this matter required careful planning. The household register was in her father’s study. If the Scott family was home, it wouldn’t be so easy to sneak it out.

Mr. Scott went to the company every day. Although the company had already been handed over to Seth Scott, he still often went to oversee things.

Mrs. Scott and Yara Scott were less predictable. Nina wasn’t very familiar with their schedules.

She called Seth, wanting to sound him out.

Seth said, "Nina, Mom was definitely in the wrong this time. She shouldn’t have locked you up. You don’t understand Mom. She’s actually quite lonely at home. If you could spend some time with her, she’d surely come to see how good you are."

"Stop, Bro. I know you’re trying to be the peacemaker, but it’s not like you don’t know how things are between her and me. We’ve been like fire and water since we were kids. She knew I have a boyfriend, but she still tried to force me to get married. Am I just supposed to do what she says? If it were you, would you do it?"

There was silence on Seth’s end. He knew that the projects he was handling were progressing so smoothly through all channels precisely because of the man his mother had found, Cameron Walker.

As things stood now, if Nina didn’t marry him, things would get complicated.

Although Seth was usually good to his sister, right now, he had his own career to consider.

"Nina, take a word of advice from your big brother. Just have a proper talk with Mom."

"Bro, don’t even try to persuade me. By the way, do you know when she’ll be out? I need to go home to grab something. I’m worried she’ll get angry if she sees me again. What if she gets so mad she ends up in the hospital?"

Seth thought for a moment. "It seems Mom won’t be home tonight."

Mrs. Scott was going to the Walker family’s place for dinner tonight. The date had been chosen, so naturally, they had to sit down and discuss the matter together.

"Okay, I got it. Thanks, Bro!"

After getting the intel, Nina Scott decided to make her move that night.

She went with Miles Mercer, having him act as a lookout for her. It felt just like being a thief. This was the first time Nina had ever done something like this.

When he agreed to marry Nina Scott, Miles Mercer really hadn’t thought it through too much. He wasn’t sure if he would regret it, but watching this woman go on one blind date after another, he actually felt a subtle sense of discomfort.

Nina ducked into a hiding spot and waved at Miles Mercer. "Come here. Just stand right here. If anything happens, give me a call."

Then, Nina quietly slipped into the Scott family home.

...

Mrs. Scott went to have dinner with the Walker family, and she brought Yara Scott with her.

Cameron Walker’s mother was quite arrogant, priding herself on her outstanding son.

"What is the meaning of this? You took our family’s betrothal gift money, and our family has done favors for you, but in the end, the bride-to-be doesn’t even show up?" Mrs. Walker’s voice dripped with contempt.

Mrs. Scott said, "No, no, my daughter is just a bit shy. She’s wholeheartedly preparing for the wedding right now. Don’t you worry, she’ll definitely be good to our little Bobby in the future."

They weren’t even married yet, and Mrs. Scott was already treating Cameron Walker’s child as her own grandson.

Yara, sitting to the side, smiled to herself. ’Once this dinner is over, this whole thing will be set in stone.’

During the meal, Yara was constantly trying to curry favor with Mrs. Scott. "Mom, have some of this."

"You can’t reach this one. Let me help you."

"Mom, you should drink a little less, okay?"

Over time, these actions had long become a regular part of Yara’s routine. In truth, she despised Mrs. Scott. ’At her age, she still acts like a little princess who needs to be coddled.’

But Mrs. Scott just happened to love this kind of treatment. If Yara wanted to please her, this was the only way.

Mrs. Walker looked at Yara. "I think this daughter of yours is quite nice, too. Well-behaved and sensible."

Mrs. Scott said with a smile, "She is indeed filial, but to be honest, she’s not my biological daughter. There was a mix-up at the hospital when she was a baby, and I’ve been raising her ever since. I’m the one who gave her a good life, so it’s only right that she’s filial to me."

Mrs. Scott spoke as if it were a matter of course, and Yara felt a pang of displeasure.

No matter how well she behaved, in Mrs. Scott’s eyes, she would never be her biological child. Mrs. Scott even acted as though she had given Yara life itself, that she was nothing more than an outsider. Yara was, in truth, deeply unsettled.

But she could only force a smile. "Mom is right. That’s why I’m so grateful to her."

Mrs. Walker asked, "She’s not married yet, is she?"

Mrs. Scott knew of the Walker family’s influence, and Yara was also of a certain age. If she could be married into an even better family, that would be for the best.

Mrs. Scott said, "Not yet. She doesn’t even have a boyfriend. If you know anyone suitable, you must introduce him to our Yara."

Yara’s face paled. "Mom, I’m not thinking about getting married yet. Yara wants to stay with Mom, Dad, and Brother forever, to be a family with you for the rest of my life."

’I don’t want to get married. The one I like is Seth.’

Mrs. Scott laughed. "Hahaha, she’s still a child. Just listen to her."

The dinner was, all in all, a relatively pleasant affair. Meanwhile, Nina had taken advantage of Mrs. Scott’s absence to get the household register.

The next day, Nina, documents in hand, appeared at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau with Miles Mercer.

Nina couldn’t believe she was actually about to get married, and to this man of all people.

She was extremely nervous. After all, marriage was a big deal, and she had no idea if Miles Mercer was reliable or not.

Just as Miles was about to head inside, Nina grabbed him. "Wait a minute! Have you really thought this through? Marrying me, are you sure you don’t want to reconsider? Once we do this, there’s no turning back!"

Miles Mercer didn’t even realize it himself, but while he had previously detested any woman’s touch, he now felt so natural when Nina held onto him, without the slightest bit of repulsion.

Miles said, "Aren’t you the one who hasn’t thought it through?"

He was perfectly calm; it was Nina who looked nervous.

"Are you kidding? How could I not have thought it through? I’m just worried you’ll regret it."

"I never have regrets. Besides, this is just a contract marriage. We’ll get divorced after a year."

Nina thought about it. ’He’s right, it’s just a contract marriage.’

She mustered up her courage and went into the marriage registration office with Miles.

But she stopped again at the entrance. "I think... maybe we should wait a little longer."

She felt she needed to think it over some more, but Miles simply pulled her along and, before Nina was ready, walked straight into the main hall.

"Hello, we’d like to take a number," Miles said, all business.

’He’s so familiar with the process, I’m starting to wonder if this is his second marriage.’

...

A short while later, the two of them emerged, a little red booklet now in their hands.

Nina opened it and stared at the marriage registration. It felt so surreal. She was actually married, and to Miles Mercer of all people!

Nina held out her arm. "Pinch me. I want to see if this is real."

Miles: "..."

"Let’s go."

Nina was still in a daze. "Go where?"

To announce it to the world, of course.

Ivy Sherwood and her grandfather sat together, staring at the two of them in astonishment. Then, in unison, they exclaimed, "What? You two got married?"
