Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close

Chapter 497: Trading Shares for Ivy Sherwood

Although her grandfather said he disliked Quentin Blackwood, he never stopped Ivy Sherwood from seeing him.

As Ivy’s family, he felt he should unconditionally stand by her side. His role was to protect her, not to forbid her from doing one thing or another.

He was just worried his precious granddaughter would be deceived again.

So, Old Master Mercer summoned Quentin Blackwood for a meeting. Quentin was actually a little surprised and flattered to be invited out alone by the old master.

When Old Master Mercer invited Quentin, he deliberately didn’t say to keep it from Ivy. This was also a way to test him.

Quentin arrived alone.

Old Master Mercer looked at him. "You didn’t ask Ivy to come with you?"

Quentin said, "Grandfather, didn’t you invite me here alone? I didn’t tell Ivy about this."

Old Master Mercer nodded, his expression still impassive and tinged with displeasure.

"Name your price. What will it take for you to leave Ivy?"

Quentin replied with utmost sincerity, "Grandfather, I will never leave Ivy."

"Don’t think for a second I don’t know what you’re up to. You rejected Ivy before, but the moment she reconnected with our family, you conveniently showed up, acting all sincere. Ivy might be naive, but I wasn’t born yesterday. Do you really think I can’t see through you? I don’t know if you’re trying to get something from Ivy or leverage her for something within the Blackwood Family. But whatever it is, I can give it to you—as long as you leave her."

Old Master Mercer was saying this deliberately to test Quentin. He wanted to see if there were ulterior motives behind his relationship with Ivy.

After all, the timing was too perfect. He didn’t believe in coincidences.

Most coincidences are, in fact, premeditated.

And Quentin Blackwood, in particular, looked like a cunning schemer. He was definitely not a simple man.

Quentin said, "Grandfather, you’re overthinking it. I’m with Ivy simply because she is the person I love. It has nothing to do with her identity or her family background."

Her grandfather asked bluntly, "Then what do you like about her?"

"The reasons for loving someone are complex. They’re the brilliant qualities you only discover over time. She has so many unique traits that others lack. She’s resilient yet stubborn, and she never gives up. If there’s something she can do on her own, she’ll never trouble anyone else for help. She’s like a plant struggling to survive in the crack of a rock. Others might see a weed, but she can blossom into the most beautiful flower."

"To me, she’s one-of-a-kind, incomparable. Grandfather, I know this might all sound like sweet talk to you, that my words carry little weight. But I swear, everything I’ve said today comes from my heart. I am with her because I love her."

’He’d never thought he’d reach a point where he couldn’t be without someone. Without her, it felt as agonizing as being unable to breathe.’

’Every day with her felt exceptionally meaningful. He wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.’

’It’s not easy to find someone like her, which is why he wanted to love her with everything he had.’

Old Master Mercer watched Quentin, and his heart stirred.

Love is something you can’t hide. It’s visible in the eyes, the expression, the tone of voice.

’If Quentin was acting, then his performance was simply too good. He’d even managed to fool an old man like me.’

Because when Quentin spoke of Ivy, his eyes lit up. A smile would appear on his face unconsciously, and a sense of happiness would radiate from him. That was a feeling that couldn’t be faked.

’It was the same way when I first met Ivy’s grandmother. We loved each other for the better part of our lives... it’s just a shame she left this world before I did.’

"Can you guarantee that everything you’ve said is true?" Old Master Mercer asked.

"I can guarantee it. I only want Ivy. If you don’t believe me, Grandfather, I can transfer everything I own to her—all my shares in DG, all the assets in my name. If I ever do anything to wrong Ivy in the future, you can leave me with nothing."

"All your shares in DG? Are you serious?" Old Master Mercer was stunned. He hadn’t expected Quentin to be willing to give up so much.

DG was one of the top companies in the country, with a formidable international reputation. Its daily net income was astronomical.

’If he really gave it all away, Quentin would be left with nothing. Was he truly willing to do that?’

’This was the business empire he had built from scratch. Anyone else in his shoes would probably refuse.’

"To me, Ivy is a priceless treasure. All of this doesn’t even come close to her worth."

Quentin had always had a detached view of money and possessions.

"Alright then," Old Master Mercer said. "Bring me the transfer agreement, and I’ll approve of you and Ivy being together." ’He wasn’t sure if Quentin was bluffing. Talk is cheap, but action is another story entirely.’

’Old Master Mercer wasn’t one to be easily intimidated. If Quentin actually dared to produce the papers for him to sign, he would agree.’

’Of course, he had no intention of actually taking Quentin’s money. The Mercer Family certainly wasn’t short on cash.’

"I’ll have someone prepare it right now."

Quentin immediately called Zane Linton and told him to prepare the share transfer agreement and arrange for someone to deliver it to him as quickly as possible.

Even Zane Linton was astonished. "President Blackwood, you’re transferring all your shares in DG to Miss Sherwood?"

"Just do as I say!"

"Yes, sir."

Zane Linton was incredibly fast. In no time, a share transfer agreement was placed on the table in front of them.

Quentin quickly signed his name, without a hint of hesitation. As long as Old Master Mercer or Ivy Sherwood signed, it would take effect.

The fate of all of DG’s shares now rested entirely in Old Master Mercer’s hands.

Old Master Mercer picked up the pen. "I’ll ask you one last time: are you sure? Because I’m about to sign this."

Quentin said, "The company seal has already been affixed, and my signature is there. All it needs is your signature to take effect immediately. There’s just one thing—please don’t tell Ivy about this, Grandfather. She’s a very independent person. If she found out, she would absolutely refuse to accept it."

Quentin wanted to give his assets to Ivy, but she was always incredibly principled when it came to money. She wouldn’t take what wasn’t hers—not even from him.

He had to work hard just to convince her to accept the shares he’d gotten from Silas Blackwood.

Back when Ivy was having financial difficulties, she never once asked Quentin for help.

So if Ivy found out about this, she would definitely be angry.

But for Quentin, if he could use this money to get the old master to finally relent and approve his relationship with Ivy, it would be a bargain.

The old master held the pen, ready to sign the document.

His pen landed on the paper, leaving a trail of black ink as he began to sign his surname.

He looked up at Quentin, who remained completely unshaken, as if this vast fortune had nothing to do with him.

All he wanted was her.

Old Master Mercer’s pen paused. Then, he swiftly crossed out the name he had just started to write.

Quentin asked in surprise, "Grandfather, what is the meaning of this?"

’Had the old master gone back on his word?’
