Chapter 47: Celestial Secret List
Respecting Ye Qingshi’s privacy, Fang Can felt it would be improper to force his way into her room.
So, for the entire night, Fang Can sat cross-legged at her door and cultivated.
When combined with the medicinal pills he was taking, the two effects stacked. While it wasn’t a perfect one-plus-one-equals-two result, achieving a 1.7-fold effect was still possible.
Feeling his recently stagnant aptitude beginning to rise again, Fang Can cultivated with renewed vigor.
Of course, while he cultivated, some other thoughts related to his aptitude also crossed his mind.
’Miss Ye doesn’t seem to be sleeping well tonight,’ Fang Can concluded, sitting cross-legged at the door.
As Ye Qingshi’s personal "signal receiver," he could clearly feel the effect her movements had on his aptitude.
This judgment was accurate down to the centimeter.
Sitting at her door, he could clearly sense that she had been tossing and turning all night, constantly rolling around on her bed and causing the "signal" to weaken.
’That degenerate... has he decided to just camp out at my door and not leave?’
In the young woman’s room, after the lights were extinguished, the moonlight from outside revealed a dark silhouette sitting cross-legged right at her doorway. Ye Qingshi could see it clearly.
Who could possibly stand seeing a dark figure at their door, whether it was a ghost or a person?
The mere thought of Fang Can lingering at her door made it impossible for Ye Qingshi to sleep all night long.
She tossed and turned, periodically glancing at the door to see if he had finally left.
But to her disappointment, the figure remained perfectly still. Right up until she succumbed to exhaustion and drifted off, Fang Can hadn’t moved an inch.
Throughout the long night, Fang Can remained completely still, practicing his Taming Tiger and Dragon Golden Body. At the same time, he didn’t neglect to increase his Flesh and Blood Heteromorphism, splitting his focus to advance in both.
When the sun rose high the next day, after a night of diligent cultivation, Fang Can’s strength had visibly increased.
Status:
Flesh and Blood Heteromorphism: 15%
Taming Tiger and Dragon Golden Body: 35 vibrations per breath
...
This progress wasn’t even the result of focusing solely on his physical cultivation. In just two more days, he could attempt to break through to the Profound Gate Second Layer.
’At this rate,’ Fang Can silently calculated, ’I can push my physical strength to the peak of the Transcendent Body, the equivalent of the Profound Gate Tenth Layer, within two months.’
Of course, all of this was predicated on him being able to stick to Miss Ye like a leech for the next two months, day in and day out.
The mental image was just too much. Not only would it ruin her reputation, but he was also a fugitive and couldn’t stay here for long.
As he was silently mulling this over, the door behind him opened with a CREAK. Ye Qingshi emerged, looking haggard.
Seeing the young man still sitting cross-legged like a monk in deep meditation, the young woman suppressed the urge to scream at him. She grumbled internally, ’I have to make this degenerate leave. What kind of person camps outside a young lady’s room all night? It’s completely shameless!’
In this bizarre mood, she decided to go out for a stroll, but just as she started, a chill ran down her spine. That persistent pest was already stuck to her back like a ghost.
"AHHH!!!" Ye Qingshi shrieked, at her wit’s end. "Can you stop following me? There are plenty of people in this town, and I’m not the only attractive one! If you’re so obsessed with beauty, why don’t you look in a mirror? Or go find an actor, have them put on some makeup! They might even look better than me!"
After venting a whole night’s worth of resentment in a rapid-fire tirade, Ye Qingshi saw Fang Can reply with an innocent look, "Only Miss Ye is special. For now, there are no substitutes."
"Damn you..." Ye Qingshi seethed, grinding her teeth. Still, with a cold snort, she turned to leave, allowing Fang Can to stick to her like an irremovable plaster.
But her composure didn’t last long. In the distance, Yan Zhi was approaching with a sycophantic grin, pushing a wheelchair. "Young Master Fang, here’s that thing you asked us to find yesterday."
Fang Can smiled. "Thanks for your trouble. Could you do me another favor?"
"Of course! Just say the word, Young Master Fang, and I’d climb a mountain of swords or plunge into a sea of fire for you," Yan Zhi declared, thumping his chest loudly.
"It’s not quite that dangerous, just a little inconvenient," Fang Can said as he sat down in the wheelchair and pointed to the dumbfounded Ye Qingshi.
"I need you to push me and follow Miss Ye. Wherever she goes, I go. Try not to fall too far behind."
"Ah... this..." Yan Zhi stared blankly at Fang Can, not expecting this to be his plan at all.
Full of speculation, he leaned in and whispered in Fang Can’s ear, "Young Master Fang, if you have feelings for Miss Ye, you should probably try a different approach. Pestering her like this might just backfire."
Not bothering to repeat the explanation he’d used on Ye Qingshi, Fang Can simply looked up and asked, "Are you telling me how to do my business?"
"I wouldn’t dare! Since you insist, Young Master Fang, I have no choice but to obey."
Yan Zhi felt helpless. In his mind, he had already pegged Fang Can as a naive, inexperienced young man, head over heels for the first time and only knowing how to show it through clumsy, incessant attention.
Recalling his discussion with the Hall Master from the day before, Yan Zhi sighed to himself. ’Ah, youth... they don’t understand the bitter taste of courtship. I guess it’s up to an old hand like me to strategize for him.’
As he mulled over a strategy, Yan Zhi began to slowly push Fang Can along behind Ye Qingshi. He then saw the young woman’s expression turn frosty. Without a word, she spun around and walked back into her room.
Going out like that, after all, was basically performance art.
Yan Zhi looked at the young woman, who had retreated to her room, then looked down at the young man, who appeared to be resting with his eyes closed but was actually deep in cultivation. A profound sense of helplessness washed over him.
Suddenly, he spoke up. "Young Master Fang, the Celestial Secret Tower should have released its new rankings this morning. Would you like me to get a copy of the Celestial Secret List for you?"
’Celestial Secret Tower?’ Fang Can, a newcomer to this world, repeated the name to himself. He seemed to recall Jiang Ning’an mentioning this organization.
Looking at Yan Zhi, Fang Can didn’t want to reveal his ignorance by asking what the Celestial Secret List was. Instead, he slapped down ten taels of silver and said with feigned nonchalance, "In that case, I’ll trouble you to buy a copy for me. Keep the change."
"Young Master, you’re too kind! It’s my honor to be of service," Yan Zhi said with a grin, pocketing the silver. "I only hope that in return, you might offer me some pointers on my martial arts." With that, he dashed off like the wind.
Lost in thought, Fang Can gently knocked on Ye Qingshi’s door.
"What is it now?" the young woman snapped, yanking the door open.
"Miss Ye, do you know what the Celestial Secret List is?" Fang Can asked with a serious expression.
His intuition told him there was something unusual about this list, so he decided to ask Ye Qingshi directly, since she didn’t seem to know martial arts and might give a straightforward answer.
"What a ridiculous question. Who doesn’t know about the Celestial Secret..." She stopped mid-sentence, staring at Fang Can’s face in astonishment. "Don’t tell me you actually don’t know what the Celestial Secret List is?"
"I do," Fang Can replied instantly.
"Then tell me what it is."
Fang Can fell silent.
Seeing the silent Fang Can, an irrepressible smile slowly spread across Ye Qingshi’s radiant face.
