Chapter 16: Lina the Gladiator
However, once this reconnaissance mode is activated, it can coexist with other personality modes, but it must be enabled by a designated person before setting the robot’s other personality modes. This allows the robot to secretly store all inputs it sees and hears in a special memory without being aware of it itself.
In fact, very few people in the entire Kingdom of Kramic know about this, and some who were aware may have forgotten over time due to long periods of inactivity.
However, the royal family happens to control the robot company. Arthur, though not a very prominent member of the royal family, works outside and has received this secret training, so he knows how to configure it.
Coincidentally, this batch of highly realistic humanoid robots would normally have their modes selected by Arthur before being sold to customers. But when the incident occurred, these robots were still in their factory state. This gave Arthur the opportunity to activate the covert reconnaissance mode while the robots were in the warehouse, especially under isolated communication conditions.
The colonel understood this and partially understood why Arthur had done this; something unusual must have happened at that time, prompting him to activate this mode.
The colonel thought that since these robots had just been activated, he might try to retrieve the reconnaissance data at a later date to see if there were any special discoveries.
However, both sides are still at war, and the whereabouts of these robots are unclear. For now, the priority is to write a report to the royal family detailing the entire situation and see what response the royal family may have. The colonel began typing the report at his workstation.
“Ding-ling-ling.” A sharp ringing sounded through a massive hall.
This is a semi-circular building covering more than 100,000 square meters. To maximize space, there are no supporting columns in the center, and the surrounding walls and ceiling are made of luminescent materials, illuminating the entire area brightly.
It is divided into two levels: the lower half contains storage, rest areas, and offices, while the rest is training grounds.
The first floor focuses on physical training, while the second floor is dedicated to mental and neural reaction exercises.
A giant dome covers the second floor, with a gladiatorial arena directly below, identical in size and specifications to a real competition arena. This design may serve to constantly remind trainees of their purpose.
Upon hearing the bell, everyone in the training grounds stopped what they were doing and headed toward the rest areas, signaling the end of training for the day.
A beautiful figure emerged from a pool, shaking her shoulder-length hair, and removed a retractable helmet around her eyes along with some connected wiring.
Her previously slightly curly red hair was straightened by the water, and her purple eyes stood out strikingly. Her muscles, honed by long-term training, were healthy and elastic.
Standing at 1.7 meters, she was not exceptionally tall, but her nearly perfect figure drew the attention of all around.
With delicate eyebrows, large eyes, and alluring red lips, her angular yet attractive face could easily be considered breathtaking.
She stood nude at the edge of the pool, letting the water drip to the ground, but the men and women around her did not turn their heads, as this was a common sight for them.
Almost immediately, a basic support robot approached her.
It was shaped like a small cylinder with two flexible arms. From the front vent, it blew hot air to quickly dry her body, then retrieved a set of training clothes from inside the cylinder and presented them to her.
As she reached for the clothes, a voice sounded in her ear:
“Lina, your master wants you to go to the office.” The command was delivered by the robot.
Hearing this, Lina turned and walked toward the office on the first floor.
Although the office appeared completely enclosed from the outside, Lina knew that the seemingly solid, opaque walls were fully transparent from the inside.
An electronic door recognized her and silently opened, allowing her to enter.
Inside, a man in his thirties sat on a sofa, with a shorter, stocky man standing beside him.
Lina knew the shorter man was Jace, standing 1.75 meters tall, a sword fighter, while she was a mech fighter.
Although Jace was not particularly short, he ranked lower among sword fighters. His muscular build compensated somewhat for his lack of height.
Sword fighters are not limited to using swords; it is a general term for those who use melee weapons. Mech fighters, like Lina, are distinct in that they operate mechs. Both are slaves under the master seated on the sofa.
Upon seeing Lina, the master nodded at her and then turned to Jace.
“In a few days, the five-yearly festival on this planet begins. You have been selected to participate in the opening gladiator performance. Go prepare for a few days; no training is needed during this time.”
Jace grimaced in pain, “Master, can… can I have a different task?”
“Resist? This is decided by the draw, and only two are chosen for each festival.” The master smiled.
The master’s name is Jeff, sporting a small mustache. Though appearing to be in his thirties, he is actually 126 years old.
He is physically very fit, though this is largely due to medical enhancements. Compared to the fighters, he is weaker in all aspects.
However, in his eyes, this does not matter because he does not need physical strength to solve problems.
Jace remained silent, trembling slightly.
Jeff snapped his fingers, causing Jace to convulse on the floor, screaming in pain. He clutched his head while rolling around. Lina calmly observed, taking no action.
After a minute, Jace finally stopped trembling, lying on the floor and gasping, “Ma… Master, I’ll go, I… I’ll go.”
“Good, now go back and enjoy these few days.”
Jace slowly rose and walked out of the room, not once looking at Lina during the entire process.
